Even fully fit Josh Hazlewood's selection for overseas matches would be questionable. Australia will play 2 spinners, with Starc and Marsh definitely in the side, a bowler, who if you eliminate his West Indies performances which were quite a few years ago now, who struggles to take wickets (Strike rate over 70) at averages of 30+ is an unreliable selection, more a hopeful selection but so far this hope hasn't been rewarded. If anything Hazlewood appears to be getting worse India (4 tests, 9 wickets @32) Sri Lanka (3 tests 7 wickets @ 32) Bangladesh (1 test 0 wickets) and the latest South Africa series where South Africa's pace bowlers dominated Josh took 12 wickets at a strike rate of 80, and an average of nearly 40. Some would say better the devil you know, but maybe another should be given an opportunity, but I don't think Doggart, Nesser, nor Siddle are the ones to make a big impression. Maybe Siddle or Neser who brings some batting and have a lower skidding delivery may have some effect in Pakistan, but poor selection IMO. I can't help but wonder why consistent FC bowlers, such as Tremain, or maybe a youthful bowler such as Tom Rogers who had a great FC series last year for Tasmania taking 37 wickets @ 18 are continually overlooked. Maybe these questionable selections are protection for current players, with the argument there is no one better. It only takes a good series performance especially overseas to put pressure on players like Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins to continue to perform and in some cases actually perform, and that is not going to happen with these selections.
