Australian Domestic Cricket

Cowan and Paine would be one slow opening combo, I struggle to see Cowan making Tassie OD side with his strike rate at 62, Paine had that SR last season so I wouldn't want both in the same side.

NSW have played 2 T20s so far with another to come later today.

First game against Victoria.
NSW 2/209 - Warner 109(58), D Smith 53(39), Hughes 40(24)
Victoria 9/210 - Blizzard 43(17), Hodge 30 (20), Wade 28(15), Starc 4-44, S Smith 2-30

Second game played today agianst Tassie
NSW 5/193 - Katich 56, Rorher 49*, S Smith 29
Tas 5/194 (Bailey 100?, Cowan 32*, Henriques 2-18, Thornely 1-25) Starc and Henriques opened the bowling the reports said those two bowled well early.

Good to see David Warner hit some early season form. The bowling must of been really bad from NSW to allow those big targets to be chased down though.

They seem to be rotating the bowlers quite a bit, the first game today Hughes and Dan Smith were rested so Rorher was keeper. Starc hasn't gone too badly so we have some depth in the bowling, Bird hasn't been great.

Here is an early game by Victoria, good bowling by Holland with a 5 fer.

Victoria 245/9 off 42.2 ov (McDonald 84 (76b, 9x4, 2x6), Quiney 31 (20b), Blizzard 35 (27b), Pattinson 14* (8b)) beat Tasmania 244 (Irvine 51 (93b), Dighton 41 (62b), Marsh 11 (24b), Butterworth 31 (30b), Holland 5/40 (7ov))

Took 1 back against Victoria. Starc did well again.

NSW 140/4 off 17.5 ov (Hughes 37, Warner 30, SPD Smith 22*, Henriques 36) beat Victoria 139 all out off 18.2 ov (Quiney 0 (0b), Blizzard 2, Hussey 9, Hodge 34, Finch 43, Bird 2/29, Keen 2/17, Starc 2/?) by 6 wickets

Has the domestic season started already?

Aaron Bird went 7 an over, what do they see in this bloke? He bowls 4 or 5 slower balls an over and usually gets hammered to all parts of the ground.

This is just warm ups and that was T20. He was the leading wicket taker in both the FRC and KFC big bash so thats why the persist with him.

T20 is rubbish cricket and he goes at nearly 6 an over in the one dayers. He is by far one of the worst bowlers to take so many wickets.

Hes a strike bowler, as long as hes taking wickets he'll be in the side. He needs to bowl at full pace more often though, too many cutters for my liking.

Wow, good to see the bowling finally step up in that last T20. Good to see Starc and the other smaller names in our squad stepping up.

Aaron Bird, behind Brakcen, is our best bowler in the short forms tbh. Takes wickets which is our problem. Bollinger, Bracken, Cameron, Henriques and Smith/Casson/Hauritz are only going to take 1 or 2 at most in the shorter forms.

We've reached the end of this warmup, next stop the Champions league.

NSW 8 for 196 - Hughes 38(15), Forrest 45(34), Thornely 35*, Rorher 33
Victoria All out for 142 - Wade 33, Smith 3-20, Thornely 2-9, Keen 2-?, Starc 2-?

Smith is becoming a dam handy bowler, continually picked up wickets through the tournament same for Keen and Starc. Rorher mr consistent, looks like Khawaja won't be playing too much OD games.

Smith, Starc, Thornley and Rohrer finging some form over these last few games has been good news for us. Good to see Forrest get some good runs too :)

This group of non-international players we have are really starting to lift their game, most of them are young and needed time, this is a quality domestic side we have for the future. It is also good we have some players who play only one of the international formats so we should have our better players in at different times.

I am looking forward to a good season, too bad the Shield games are not on TV that really blows.

Does anybody have a list of the other states domestic squads?
