Aaron O’Brien
Rob Cassell

In: Tom Cooper, Ben Edmondson, Tom Moffat

Both openers tossed out due to not preforming this season. It's a big call against a strong NSW bowling attack in what should be bowler friendly conditions.

James Smith had to go, hes been very poor. Had high hopes for him last season but he hasn't kicked on. Haven't seen what Dan Harris has done but guess his shorter form hasn't carried to the longer format. Cooper is always worth a go, seems to step up when playing against NSW.

Given what has happened since he got out, I think it's a big sign that they should persist with Tom Cooper rather than bringing him in every now and then.

Copeland has had a quiet 2 innings which isn't like him. Hopefully can get some wickets in the 2nd innings to get the average back to amazingness.

Was hoping Smith would get some runs with his wickets, Khawaja still in at least. Ferguson just hasn't stepped up at all in trying to claim a spot.

No stream, but it didn't read too quiet. Maybe a bit wide of the stumps early on, but later several shouts and almost-chances. He finally got Cooper out and then the floodgates opened for the 3rd and 4th change bowlers. Rightly so, Clark kept Henriques and Smith bowling while they were on a roll. SA were 2/106 when Copeland bowled his last over; all out 25 overs later. I think the opening quicks were just a bit unlucky that SA put up no resistance after that painstaking 97 run partnership, but on the whole there is nothing for NSW to complain about.

Khawaja gets his 50 but like the Aussie batsmen can't go on. Bit disappointing as he is one that goes on. A worry is that he got out to a part time offie.

Cricinfo: Hauritz called in to replace injured Simon Katich, fans, Hughes shocked

Australian chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch released this statement today;
"Nathan Hauritz is in fine form, making 103* in the ongoing Shield match against South Australia, and we feel that his batting prowess and part time off-spin will put our team back on track in this series."

Dumped opener Phillip Hughes was unavailable for comment, but a source close to him stated that he was in shock and disbelief.

Queensland's line-up is looking pretty rubbish these days. Only positive I can see these days are our quicks.

Surprised that's Hauritz' first 100 actually.

Meanwhile, WA sent Qld in and it paid off. The new look top order didn't exactly function against good new ball swing bowling. The batsmen kept out or survived some of the better deliveries, but largely just chased the more average wider balls to their own demise. Andrew Robinson looked promising on debut, striking some classy fours, but he drove at an excellent full delivery from Duffield which was caught by an even more excellent Pomersbach, who greedily leapt from 2nd slip to take the catch right out of Voges' hands at 1st slip. After a difficult first hour, Floros and Philipson managed to get some semblance of a partnership going.

It's all happening at the Gabba. Runs from the in-form Davis made up the bulk of WA's effort, but contributions from the Bulls bowlers kept them from getting away with the game. It really turned against WA with a great throw from Rimmington inside the ring at midwicket. Voges was run out by a centimetre and set the scores dead level with less than an over left in WA's first stage, but then McDermott grabs another! He's been the pick of all the bowlers, no great pace from the teenager, but good skills. Ronchi just managed to grab the bonus point for the Warriors, but things aren't going their way unless they get some early wickets after dinner.
