The domestic system isn't the problem. I still think our Domestic system is yonks above England's, and isn't the reason we are losing. England simply came with a better team, and a team that had actually played together before. The Aussies didn't even know their XI until the last moment heading into a home Ashes series. The Australian selectors are just panicking and trying to make miracle selections. X looks like he's going to be dropped, granted I don't think he should have ever been there, but they picked him, and is 2 tests a fair crack?
Christian has to be one of the most improved cricketers going around.
No doubt the domestic system is still strong & is still pretty much the best in the world. But certain states like QSL & SA have declined significantly & look real crappy without the few international players they have are on international duty.
QSL are a shadow of its glorious 90s self when Maher, Hayden, Bichel, Dawes, Dale, Kasper, Law where around. While S Australia batting without Lehmann, Blewett, Elliot & Tait not able to play FC cricket.
Even WA look a bit weakish at times.
So some player performances againts some teams these days i.e Steve Smith cant always been taken on face value like it was back in the 90s & early/mid 2000s. Which is what the article is saying in larger scope of things.
ENG brought a team who knew their line-up months before no doubt. But the AUS dumb selectors againnnn, didn't help things with their clueless decision making & selections. If they knew what they where doing AUS could have certainly know their best XI longggg before the 1st test @ Brisbane (even with the injury worries to Harris, Bollinger, Katich going into the 1st test). The only fit players position that should have kept them up before the 1st test was Hussey.
X as you should said have never played, nor should have any spinner. So yes after his two test shocker in which i expected that to happen, get him out of their before they destroy the lads confidence anymore. After all he has a future in the ODI & T20 set-up.
War added 8 Minutes and 44 Seconds later...
The preparation was awful. Being bullied into a Test series v India was not the thing to do. All it did was dent the confidence of most of the players and got Dougie injured. Having their time again and if money WASN'T a factor, I don't think CA would play that series. Or the SL one day series for that matter. Both series just made fans, selectors and the media skittish.
Well to be fair. Althought the India series was not on AUS test calendar for 2010 from the outset & it was just arranged since IND wanted more test cricket in order to prop up its false position as # 1 test team.
I didnt mind that test series at the end of the day. We probably could have played an extra test over their instead of the home ODIs vs SRI.
I dont think it would have been good preparation going into the 1st test @ Brisbane without a test fixture since July & just the players playing FC cricket.
Of course the Bollinger situation which is still costing AUS now was caused by ludicrously short time period between that champions league & the 1st test. But then again better scheduling would have avoided that really.
