Australian Domestic Cricket

Phew, close one. Putland's amazing over made up for the dropped catches. If the third umpire didn't overturn the LBW decision in the final over it would have been game over. You feel for Faulkner at the end coming in only needing 4 runs off 4 balls, not being able to get them. Ponting and Bailey did well and they would be spewing.

I also noticed that there were no bowling restrictions, with bowlers bowling more than 10 overs. Is this always the case for the final?

Ryobi Cup rules this season, 2 bowlers can bowl up to 13 each and the rest 11 each I think

Pretty sure that all bowlers can bowl up to 13.

Before the season I was a fan of Faulkner. After seeing a far bit of him the season I don't think he's much chop, nor is he anywhere near international selection. He's that not quick, he's not that accurate, he doesn't get any real swing or seam on a consistent basis and he bowls too many hittable balls. He thrived last year on Tasmania's green tops, but he has struggled a lot this season. Most of the wickets that he has taken have been during final 10 slogging.

At least Faulkner isn't overrated to the extent that he's a fringe domestic player playing international cricket.

Faulkner didn't really light it up from what I saw of him, but he's got talent and at shy of 22, he's got another 2-3 years of good development.

Rob Quiney takes out domestic player of the year at the AB medal. Must be ahead of Marsh, Khawaja and Hughes for the Caribbean, but with Watson returning and Forrest making a good impression, it will be tough to get a game.

Still not a fan of Quiney for higher honours. Just don't see him as a player who'll succeed at international cricket.

Nevertheless to win state player of the year is a fair achievement for a bloke who worked his way up through 3rd XI grade cricket to get where he is.

Yes I saw Gary Putland trending. In other news, play abandoned at Adelaide. Some serious weather is occurring when you can't get on the field even at Adelaide.

Did anyone see the lengthy Khawaja article on cricinfo a couple of weeks ago?

Don't know if it was on the front page at all, I found it on an Aus/WI page. It raised a couple of things I wasn't aware of. Apparently a lack of commitment to work on his fielding, not really interested in hitting the gym and didn't really gel with the boy's club members or something.

Seems he's got a lot of work to do, other than just scoring runs, if he wants to get back into the picture.

Good to see Nevill back for NSW. I was starting to think Rorher was immune to being dropped. Not a bad display so far by our batsman, but naturally that means our tail will collapse for about 15 runs.

Some good signs out of Tassie too. Ponting 91* at stumps. Bailey was looking good until the last over. Crushing bowling display from Faulkner, Bird and Butterworth too. Obligatory wicket update for Bird - 36 now in 5.5 matches.

Meanwhile Quiney trying to keep his name in the hat, nearing a patient century. Hard to see him making the test squad after not being named in the ODI one though I suspect.
