Australian Domestic Cricket

We need 3 runs off 2 overs now to get the bonus point, so not too difficult stuff. Shame we don't get to see Hill bat, but overall a very good performance from Victoria. Still missing our two best bowlers and our captain/third best batsman.

Casson and Hauritz, what a partnership in the end. We managed 576, and have SA 1/53 leaving us with a 210 run lead atm. Casson went the tonk with 70 off 118 in the end.

Nice to see McDonald cap of a good bowling performance with a few runs with the bat. He had McGrath like figures at one stage, he certainly should be in contention for our ODI side.

Lambert going great guns, he looks to be our best bowler atm. Hauritz again more economical than Casson so far, tomorrow we get into the business end for the two.

It's funny how Casson is seen as 'shafted' by the Aussie selectors yet he has bowled less than half the number of overs Nathan Hauritz has in this game v SA. And he hardly bowled in the first game against WA, young Steve Smith didn't get much of a go either - it was all Bracken/Cameron/Lambert.

At the moment Casson is in the NSW team for his batting - sound familiar Mr CL White??

But I wonder what the real story is - pitch not suiting him? Thornely has no confidence in him? All these 'experts' like Ian Chappell etc are calling for Casson's return to the Aussie squad - but how can Ponting expect to bowl him if his NSW captain won't even put him on?

It looks to be a bit of the fact that Casson is returning from injury and Hauritz has been more threatening and economical.

NSW really have struggled in the 2nd inns this season, they seem to lack that pace bowler to do the damage in either Bollinger or Bracken. Although Bracken was playing in our last game and we struggled to get wickets in the 2nd ins. I did expect Cameron to step up after going so well when he was called up to the A side in India.

Just read Khawaja got another double 100 in grade cricket creating a record for back to back doubles. Rohrer just missed his 100. This against Victoria 2nd 11 so decent effort. Khawaja certainly is pushing for inclusion in the NSW 1st 11.

Main game ended in a draw, just not enough bite in the NSW bowling attack.

In other 2nd grade news, Borgas and Cosgrove both made 100s against ACT. Ritchard was the pick of the ACT bowlers picking up 4.

No he's not... He was our main spinner last season. Like syl said hes returning from an injury, but nonetheless a poor game from him, and cameron.

Kwahaja is going great, I really wanna go to a NSW second XI game sometimes soon down at Hurstville and watch him play.

I wouldn't fuss too much at the results in Adelaide, but the spinners around the place need a bit more encouragement. Doran only bowled 10 overs in two games and then got dropped because Simpson isn't even bowling himself. Heal hasn't played a game for WA yet. At the other end of the spectrum, Cullen's getting stacks of overs, but I can't see what he's doing with them.

You seem to be saying what Warne is :)

Warne says there's plenty of good, young slow bowling talent around and all they needed was encouragement from their captains.

"It's not just, 'Quick bowler, quick bowler, quick bowler, let's try a medium pacer, part-timer, OK they're 0-80, spinner have a bowl'," he said.

"We've got to back the spinner in first-class and domestic cricket, which will then hold him in good stead when we get to international cricket.

"Hopefully this summer, between myself and the other spin-bowling coaches around Australia, we can give Ricky (Ponting) and the selectors some options."

Hopefully that will get the selectors to have more confidence in playing spinners even at the WACA. Thornely had confidence in Hauritz which was good, he was economical and probably NSW best hope for wickets after Lambert.

On Doran seems like hes getting the same treatment as Heal, Queensland seem to think pace, pace and more pace at the Gabba. Funny thing is Warne loved the ground. On the same note Vettori loves the WACA so there isn't any excuse for not playing spinners especially since Heal bowls what Vettori does and Doran what Warne does.

Draw for NSW and SA, but good stuff from Hughes and also Klinger, 43 and 74 continues his good start to the season. Good to see a batsman clearly with enough talent finally making the most of his chances.

Well Victoria regain Blizzard and our England test cricketer, Pattinson, for our next game. Surely we won't be beaten now!

You guys wouldn't have been beaten without those two!

Our 14 man squad has been named:
Dominic THORNELY (Captain)
Aaron BIRD
Nathan BRACKEN
Mark CAMERON
Peter FORREST
Nathan HAURITZ
Moises HENRIQUES
Phillip HUGHES
Usman KHAWAJA
Grant LAMBERT
Stephen O’KEEFE
Daniel SMITH
Steven SMITH
David WARNER

Will be tough on Bird to be dropped after his form but can't see them keeping him. I would say Khawaja and Steven Smith the other 2 to be omitted. Shame that as would like to see both of them giving more of a run but we can't really fit them in.

Other teams

South Australia FR Cup squad
Daniel Harris, Michael Klinger, Tom Cooper, Callum Ferguson, Younis Khan, Cameron Borgas, Daniel Christian, Graham Manou (capt, wk), Aaron O'Brien, Mark Cleary, Dan Cullen, Shaun Tait, Allan Wise.

South Australia Sheffield Shield squad Daniel Harris, Tom Plant, Michael Klinger, Younis Khan, Callum Ferguson, Cameron Borgas, Graham Manou (capt, wk), Aaron O'Brien, Mark Cleary, Shaun Tait, Allan Wise, Peter George.

Tasmania FR Cup squad Michael Dighton, Tim Paine (wk), Travis Birt, George Bailey, Dane Anderson, Daniel Marsh (capt), Luke Butterworth, Mark Divin, Xavier Doherty, Brett Geeves, Brendan Drew, Ben Hilfenhaus.

Nice to see Cooper getting a run, hes been decent for SA 2nd 11.

Well having an England test cricketer will make us unstoppable now. Make no mistake - we're at the top to stay.

If the selectors are after a spinning batting all rounder they need look no further than North. Hes been quite handy with his offie and he certainly can bat.

Magoffin has been great yet against. Was a bit surprised seeing his speed below 130 km/h in the FRC match, hope that was cause of the situation as I don't know how he'd go in the top level with that pace.
