Thats bad decision! Couple of wickets now will put Aussies in pressure but Ponting is still there which is Aussie's main plus point now!

Crucial Captains Knock

Ricky Ponting has produced a clinical captains innings to give Australia the upper hand in the VB final after a well compiled 53 from only 54 balls at the MCG. Ponting has shone like the bright lights of the MCG as Australia move to 3/106 after 24 overs. Ponting has scored 7 boundaries in his innings to move his side to within 93 runs of victory.

If India can get 3 more wickets within Aus's 140, There are chances for both the teams!

Atm, with the presence of Ponting, Aussies are in safe ship! :)

Captain Departs - Australia 4/121 (27.5)

Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh made the crucial breakthrough for India to give his side some hope of a comeback with the dismissal of Ricky Ponting for 64 as Australia move to 4/121 after 27.5 overs.

Ponting's stylish 65 ball innings came to an end after being trapped infront by Singh, as the captain looked to flick the ball to the leg side, but was beaten in both flight and spin as the ball pitched just outside off stump and hit Ponting infront of middle and off.

The wicket brings 2 of Australian cricket's brightest stars to the crease, Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey, as they look to chase down the 78 required for victory.

Great knock by ponting. However Australia will continue to go with their strong lineup.

Keep up the great presentation MWaugh.

was this out? Pitching outside off stump and hitting the pad? Ponting often struggle against Bhaji! Good fight back by India!

its only pitching outside leg stump thats an issue. and it hit him inline with the stumps while playing a shot

oh ok... i thought so far that it shd be in line always.. Thanks atleast i came to know that now! :)

With two more wickets within 20 more runs... India wud be right back into the game! ;)

Australia With Slight Advantage - 4/127 (30)

Australia require 72 more runs for victory in the VB series final after an important 64 from captain Ricky Ponting. However the match is evenly poised after the dismissal of Ponting, with new batsmen Michael Clarke (8*) and Michael Hussey (5*) joining in the middle with 20 overs remaining.

India will take some confidence in knowing that these pair are the last recognised batsmen in the lineup, with Brad Hogg and Brett Lee due in at number 7 and 8 respectively.

India 10/198

Australia 4/127 (30)
R. Ponting 64 (65)
M. Clarke 8* (24)
M. Hussey 5* (9)

I. Pathan 2/40 (10)
H. Singh 1/17 (3)
S. Tendulkar 0/8 (3)

For Aussies, another 30 runs partnership will reduce the pressure!
For India, 2 wickets badly needed in another 15 runs to put Aussie in pressure ;)

Cmon Aussies. Clarke and Hussey need to just be easy and go for 3-4 runs an over. With the occasional over of more then the req run rate!

CMon AUssies

Keep it up MWaugh

Very much in the hands of the Aussies. They still have six wickets in hand, and more than enough deliveries to get to their target. However if India can pick up another two or three wickets now and in quick succession, then we could be in for a thrilling finish.

Nevertheless, Ponting might have already played the innings that in the end turns out to be the difference between the two teams.
