Smith And Prince Build Partnership

Graeme Smith and test saviour Ashwell Prince combined well to build a partnership of 62 runs to consolidate the South African innings when they lost wickets early. Smith scored 73 not out while Prince scored 28 not out as the homeside held firm against the spin of Brad Hogg and the wayward pace of Jason Gillespie.

Symonds Introduced To Great Affect

Star allrounder Andrew Symonds was introduced into the attack with the score at 4/171, and it took little time for the off spinner to make his mark on the shortened form of the game. Symonds took the valuable wicket of Ashwell Prince for 37 to make the score 5/185, just as the little left hander was looking to make a large score.

Symonds spun one back to Prince, who played an aweful shot and played around the ball. This allowed Symonds to take his first wicket and knock leg stump backward towards Adam Gilchrist.

Wow Symonds does it again! Big breakthrough that but Boucher in now and with Pollock still to come, they have plenty of batting left! What over are you in now?

Good partnership there between Prince and Smith, but Symonds dismissing Prince might have shifted the momentum back in favour of the Aussies.

32 at that stage. but alot more fireworks happened shortly after

Symonds Cracks The Double While Smith Falls Short - South Africa 6/216 (41.0)

Andrew Symonds continued his strong start to the One Day season when he took the vital wicket of captain Graeme Smith, with the South African captain within reach of his first century of the year.

Symonds produced a quicker, skidding delivery to split the bat and pad room left by Smith as he attempted to drive. The ball failed to turn on Smith, who was clearly dissapointed to be out for a well made 90 from 129 balls.

Smith produced a much needed captains knock to take his team to 6/216 in the 41st over. Leaving 9 overs of happy hour hitting to Shaun Pollock and Mark Boucher.

(Scorecard and bowling stats up to the 41 over mark)

Symonds has taken 2 but hes had a bit of stick! 40 odd runs from 6 overs but still Smith's wicket at this stage is vital. These 9 overs could make or break the game!

Symonds Strikes Gold - South Africa 10/255

Andrew Symonds continued his good form with the ball and his great start to the ODI series when he took 5/57 to dismiss South Africa for 255 in the 47th over of the first innings.

Symonds was expensive, being smashed for 57 off only 8.1 overs at a run rate of 7.03 an over. But was able to take enough wickets to leave South Africa all out with 3 overs still to play.

The off spiner took the vital wickets of Smith (90), Prince (37), Boucher (22), Pollock (8) and Nel (2) to single handedly tear the South Africans away from a possible 300 + runs total.

The Australian batsman, lead by openers Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist, will have to score 256 runs at a run rate of 5.12 runs per over if they are to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Cracking series once again, ive voted Symonds to be the top run scorer, just a hunch after the way he has started this series!

Australia Off To Awkward Start - 3/76 (15.0)

Australia, lead by Adam Gilchrist, powered early in their run chase but lost momentum by loosing 3 wickets in the first 15 overs of the run chase to be 3/76 when Graeme Smith was able to move the field back outside the circle.

Adam Gilchrist launched a quick fire 23 from 27 balls before he edged a cover drive from Makhaya Ntini to Mark Boucher who took a superb catch, diving away to his left.

Ricky Ponting came and left quickly for only 5, and was followed shortly after by Damien Martyn, who scored 10 before he was cleaned bowled by Shuan Pollock between bat and pad to leave Australia in a delicate position at 3/76.

On a good note for Australia, they are scoring at a faster rate than the South Africans were at this point in their innings. Scoring at 5.06 runs per over compared to South Africas 0/58 at 3.86 runs per over.

oh..match is well balanced..
every chances of going down to a wire
keep it up mate!!!!
