Smith And Rudolph Continue Strong Showing - South Africa 2/197 Graeme Smith and Jacques Rudolph continue to peg away at the Australian total and are keeping close the Australian worm.
South Africa require 133 runs at 6.65 runs per over to win the match.
Graeme Smith showed the fight that has earnt him the position of South African captain as he powered to his 5th One Day International century as he attempted to keep South Africa within reach of victory in the 2nd ODI at Johannesburg.
Smith sent the South African fans at the New Wanderers ground into raptures as he smashed his century at greater than a run a ball, hitting his 100 off 94 balls.
The century comes off the back of a 90 in the first game and has signalled a return to form for the left handed opener after a disasterous test series.
The pressure has increased for all involved on the field and in the stands as the innings nears its conclusion. South Africa are sitting at what would normally be a very good score of 2/251 from 40 overs.
However they are still falling behind the run rate required for victory and now need 79 runs to win at 7.9 per over to chase down the 6/329 set by Australia.
(Graeme Smith will be the key for South Africa in the last 10 overs.)
Part-Timer Clarke Chimes In - South Africa 3/264
Part time left arm spinner Michael Clarke chimed in with a wicket late in the innings as he dismissed Jacques Rudolph for a well made 53 as South Africa slipped to 3/264 in the 41st over of play.
Clarke, bowling mainly due to the fact that Jason Gillespie left the field after an injury to his ankle, tempted Rudolph into playing the slog sleep which was easily caught on the mid wicket fence by Andrew Symonds.
The good news for the Proteas is that captain Graeme Smith is still at the crease and unbeaten on 109, however the run rate required is no up past the 8 per over mark so some big hitting will be needed to get back into the match.
Michael Clarke became Australias first multiple wicket taker for the innings when he clean bowled Boeata Dippenaar for 8 as South Africa slipped up again to be 4/284 with only 5 overs remaining in the run chase.
Clarke threw one up outside Dippenaar's leg stump which tempted the right handed batsman into playing the ball straight down to mid on. This resulted in a large gap between bat and pad which allowed the ball to cannon into the leg stump.
Aussies Edge Closer To Victory - South Africa 4/284 (45.0)
Michael Clarke and Brett Lee began to tighten the screws as Australia edge closer to both a match and series victory over South Africa. The Proteas require 46 runs at 9.20 runs per over to salvage the match, with Graeme Smith proving to be the only hope for the home side.
Smith Falls - Advantage Australia - South Africa 5/301
Graeme Smiths cameo finally came to an end as Michael Clarke picked up the crucial wicket of the South African opener and captain while the Proteas slipped to 5/301 with only 3 overs left to play.
Smith was sensationally stumped by Adam Gilchrist as he looked to loft a Michael Clarke spinning delivery down to mid on as the captain departed for a superb 128 off only 120 balls.
