To help members out when reading my story (luckily i have made it to 53 pages now) i have updated the 1st post in the thread consitently so that you can jump straight to a specific game, stats page or tour highlight. hopefully this will help anyone that wants to get straight to the action.
Michael Hussey continued his impressive debut in the Australian test team with his second consecutive test half century as Australia steadied to be 3/143 on day 1 of the 2nd test match.
Hussey brought up his half century off 77 balls, favouring the cover region as he struck 8 boundaries and one towering six. It appears the new number 4 and 5 combination of Clarke and Hussey has combined well as the pair rescued Australia after a top order collapse which left the home side in real trouble at 3/44.
New boys on the block Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey combined for a crucial 103 run partnership as Australia steadied its position on day 1 of the 2nd test as they moved to 3/147.
Clarke showed his maturity on the flat Adelaide wicket as he moved to 57 not out while Hussey has proven his inclusion in the test squad was justified with 54 not out. Australian selectors will be pleased with the pairing as they still look to find a replacement pairing in the post Mark and Steve Waugh era of Australian cricket.
Michael Hussey failed to build on his great start in the 2nd test after falling to leg spinner Anil Kumble for 54 as Australia slipped at 4/148. Hussey was beaten by the bounce of the hard Adelaide wicket as he attempted to sweep the leg spin of Kumble. This forced the Western Australian (playing in only his 2nd test) to top edge the ball which looped to Ajit Agarkar who took an excellent catch at backward square leg.
Andrew Symonds now enters for his first test since March 2004 when he played on the tour of Sri Lanka.
Andrew Symonds failed in his first chance to cement a test birth on his return to the Australian test team after he was bowled for only 4 by part time leg spinner Sachin Tendulkar to leave Australia 5/163 in the 2nd session of play on day 1 of the 2nd test.
Symonds was unfortunate in the method of his dismissal, Tendulkar getting a leg break to grip and bounce which caught Symonds by suprise. The ball cannoned into the Queenslanders gloves (which were positioned outside off stump) and deflected to the base of leg stump.
Australia will now rely on young sensation Michael Clarke and vice captain Adam Gilchrist to build a competitive total on this batsman friendly pitch.
An unbeaten 87 from young superstar Michael Clarke and an agressive 26 not out from Adam Gilchrist enabled Australia to steady their performance to leave the score at 5/211 at the one day 1.
Michael Hussey (54) and Clarke put on 103 for the 4th wicket to put Australia back on track, while Adam Gilchrist showed his flair hitting 26 from only 28 balls. Australia still very much in trouble though with plenty of work to do.
Zaheer Khan (2/76) and Anil Kumble (1/25) have been the pick of the bowlers for the tourists.
Wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist continued on his good start to the Australian season with an unbeaten 50 from only 62 balls as Australia moved to 5/247 on day 1 of the second test.
Gilchrist showed his natural attacking flair as he reached the boundary 4 times and cleared the rope on 3 occasions. His half century will be a big boost to the home side and will be very worrying for the tourists, should Gilchrist carry on from his good start, the Indians may be chasing leather for some time to come.
Michael Clarke put the Indian bowlers to the sword with a commanding display as he brought up his 3rd career test century. Clarkes 163 ball century put Australia back in contention in the 2nd test match after an impressive start by the tourists left the home side in trouble at 3/44.
The young New South Wales superstar showed maturity and composure of a batsman many years his senior as he proffessionally and methodically lifted his team from trouble. Clarke struck 13 boundaries in his vital innings which along with Adam Gilchrist (55 not out) has had Adelaide Oval fans on the edge of their seats.
Gilchrist And Clarke Steady Aussies - Australia 5/268
Australian cricket stars Adam Gilchrist and Michael Clarke put on an unbeaten 105 to guide Australia to 5/268 late on day 1 of the second test at Adelaide. Gilchrist blazed 59 while Clarke pounded 109 as the pair put the home side back in the picture after a terrible start.
Clarke and Gilchrist will have to remain at the crease until the close of play to ensure Australia start in a strong position on day 2.
(Adam Gilchrist congratulates Michael Clarke on a superb century as the pair put on 105)
