Gilchrist Stranded At Stumps - Australia 5/336

Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist was left stranded on 99 not out at stumps on day 1 of the 2nd test at Adelaide as Australia recovered to be 5/336 when umpires removed the bails.

Gilchrist slashed an unbeaten 99 from only 127 balls as he and young New South Wales batsman Michael Clarke put on a crucial 173 run stand for the 6th wicket. However Gilchrist is sure to have an uneasy night as he stands just 1 run away from his 16th test century.

But it was the young superstar Clarke who stole the show as his unbeaten 135 from 214 balls rescued Australia from a terrible position of 3/44 earlier in the day.

Zaheer Khan claimed the best bowling honours for the day with 2/76 from 18 overs. The left arm quick was well supported by Anil Kumble who 1/67 from 21 overs on a sharp turning Adelaide pitch.

Gilchrist Reaches Century - Australia 5/341

Adam Gilchrist put a restless nights sleep behind to him to reach his 16th test century in the 1st over of play on day 2 of the 2nd test in Adelaide. After returning to the dressing rooms stranded on 99 at the completion of play on day 1, Gilchrist appeared carm and confident as he and Michael Clarke strode to the middle to resume play.

It took the Western Australian only 2 balls to sweep Anil Kumble to the square leg fence and bring up the milestone that illuded him in South Africa with scores of 96 not out and 83 in the 2nd test in Cape Town.

Gilchrists innings included 10 boundaries and 5 towering sixes. He and Clarke will now look to build on the home sides score of 5/341 to build a score over the 400 run point.

Brilliant. Continued brilliance from MWaugh. Great batting from Gilly and Pup. Aussie now need to make above 450 to put this match beyond India's reach. Reps for you

Me and my big mouth! Gah! Gilly is tearing the bowlers to shreds. India need to roll them out within 400.

Crucial Knock Comes To An End - Australia 6/375

A brave and crucial innings from Michael Clarke came to and end after over a full days play which lead the New South Welshman to only his 3rd test century against the team whom he scored his first (on debut in India).

The 140 run knock came from 227 balls and included 16 boundaries as he and Adam Gilchrist 130 not out from 148 balls steered the home side to be 375 at the loss of the 6th wicket.

The youngest player in the team, Clarke showed maturity and composure years ahead of him as he set about the task of rebuilding the innings after a shocking start from the Australian top order.

Adam Gilchrist (130*) will now have to bat with the tail of Warne, Lee, McGrath and MacGill in an attempt to get the total above 400 and towards 450. But with Adam Gilchrist at the crease, and striking the ball as well as he currently is, a score of 500 might not be out of reach.
