Paceman Mohammad Sami fell in the search for quick runs after holeing out to Michael Clarke in the deep as Pakistan fell to 7/222. Damien took an early contender for catch of the season to dismiss Sami out in the deep after the batsman attempted to sweep slog Clarke.
Inzimam-ul-Haq was finally caught on the ropes by Nathan Bracken off the bowling of Brad Hogg for a sensational and crucial century to be dismissed for a neat 100 from only 98 balls to take Pakistan to 8/222.
Hogg eventually took the wicket of the Pakistani Captain who also holed out looking for quick runs as the innings comes closer to its end.
The Pakistan tail end collapsed continued with the wicket of Shoaib Akhtar following his captain after he was caught on the ropes for only 1. Brad Hogg and Nathan Bracken again teamed up, with Bracken taking a simple catch at deep mid on, only 15 meters from where he took the catch earlier in the over.
Brett Lee took the wicket of Rana Naved-ul-Hasan to complete the rout of the Pakistan tail to dismiss Pakistan for 10/231. Naved was caught by Ricky Ponting at mid wicket looking to loft the ball over the infield while on 5 as Pakistan were bowled out with still 4.3 overs remaining in the innings.
The Pakistan batting lineup eventually crumbled towards the end of the innings at the hands of Brad Hogg who claimed 4/42. The tourists relied heavily on their captain Inzimam-ul-Haq who scored 100 to post a competitive total of 231. Setting the Australians 232 at 4.64 per over to win the first match.

The Australian opening pairing of Adam Gilchrist and Simon Katich will be well aware of the task ahead of them as the home side looks to chase down the 232 required for victory in the first VB match of the series.
Test discard Simon Katich failed to impress in his return to the one day team at the top of the order when he fell to paceman Shoaib Akhtar for only 7. Katich was caught at square leg from a diving catch by Abdul Razzaq with the score on 11.
