Australian ODI tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland, June-July 2010

Question for England fans: If they want a batting all rounder, why don't they go for RTD? He doesn't play for Netherlands that often. I've seen him play a few times and he looks a really good player. Aggressive batsman, handy bowler and very consistent.

I reckon we should be grooming Steven Smith for the test side rather than play him in the ODI team. It's interesting to see how some young spinners are groomed for test places in limited overs teams and they end up just bowling darts which has a negative influence on their first class bowling style. This is especially true for leggies, who can get slogged it they flight it up in ODI's.

The best leggies didn't play ODI's. Look at Warne and Kumble. Qadir did and he averaged 32 in tests. Brad Hogg played ODI's and he couldn't make it at test level.

We'd be better off playing a Hauritz, Holland or Doherty in limited overs games than Smith, preserving Smith to play attacking roles in test matches.

I'd say keep Smith in the ODI team, but elevate him to a position of more batting responsibility and bowl him more sparingly, unless he's having a good day with the ball of course.

Hmm, he just hasn't been a Best XI player for long enough IMHO.

I agree with the specialist bowler not being played at eight. Hilfy and Johnson to come back soon though.

Hilfenhaus has to earn an ODI spot....

I don't think he's qualified, and he seems to be against it. Also at 30, I doubt he'd be a good choice for England at this time when they've got a lot of exciting young talent.

I thought of this but I'm not sold on Smith as a batsman. I'd love to be proven wrong but for mine he's still got to earn his spot as a batter. Plus I think he'd be better served getting as much first class practice as possible with the ball, in England and Australia.

Perhaps we could give one of our forgotten bowlers a go.

*cough* Bracken *cough*

:p

Seriously though, Bracken could be really useful on the subcontinental pitches of the 2011 World Cup.

Wasn't there something about him not wanting to represent England?

Poor from Australia though.

Someone said something about development....:p

Bracken's 32, still some years left in him. It's not like he will suffer from burnout either considering he won't be playing Test cricket and isn't an express bowler. I think Bracken is still worth a go for the 2011 World Cup. :D

He'll be 33 come the World Cup and I just think his best is behind him. Obviously he could still put in those big performances but with that consistency? It just looks as if it would be more of a step back with bowlers like Johnson, Bollinger, Siddle and Hilfenhaus on the front line and youngsters like Hazlewood, Cockley, George, Hastings and Pattinson all waiting to get a game

Fair enough, what about in the T20 team? :p

Kies-wet her pants! That's exactly why we select Shaun Tait, for those rippers! Game breaker!

Fair enough, I rate him though.

Yeah, he said he doesn't want to play for England because he feels South African.

If Warne and Kumble didn't play ODIs, I'd like to know who was wearing their shirts.

Tait makes it all better.

Wth is up with Australia all of a sudden? This is too easy for England.
