Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

I hope they dont take a risk with Laxman. If again he ends up getting the same back spasms, Ponting might not allow him to play with a runner and it might end up crippling India really bad. Why do we need a not 100% fit Laxman when he have picked a highly promising lad in Pujara for this series? Only when he is given the chance will we know what is his worth in international games. We cant lose the series now and so we must rest Laxman and play Pujara.

I hate Dhoni's statement where he says inspite of carrying minor niggles here and there, the players are playing good cricket. It shows these guys play with injuries because they do not want to be out of the team and let others play. Bad sign! What is the need to play Harbhajan inspite of his niggles?

Not might. He will not be allowed runner this time. :p

Bollinger has been ruled out so looking forward to seeing George although could end up with Smith. Sounds like North will keep his spot again.

I'm pretty sure Laxman won't play if he's not 100% fit tomorrow. India will not want the neccesary confusion of running between the wickets, and that is if Ponting allows the runner, beacuse in the last match, I think we lost a wicket or two due to the confusion with the runner.

If Laxman does play tomorrow, it will be India VVS Australia, lol.

If he doesn't, then I am more than happy for Pujara to play.

For this final test. North should keep his place given his off-spin could be useful (he shouldn't play in the 1st Ashes test howver). Smith has to come in for Hauritz as well. Its the fast-bowlers who will take 20 wickets & they may have a better chance this time around if conditions as reports say are indeed overcast.

War added 12 Minutes and 13 Seconds later...

McDonald was the smart choice in conditions that offered a bit for seamers. He was tight, reliable, kept batsmen accountable and kept the over rate up.

They needed that bowler because they were already debuting Hilfenhaus and putting faith in Siddle to keep performing. Nannes as backup might have been reasonable, but throwing him in the 1st Test would have been an unnecessary risk. Besides, the third Test showed that what they forgot wasn't a paceman at all, it was the backup batsman.

The only reason McDonald was able to keep it tight in SA, was because of how superb Johnson/Hifly/Siddle bowled in the 1st two test. Especially Johnson who shocked them with amount of inswing he got in SA - they certainly wouldn't have expected that based on what they faced from him in AUS.

Plus McDonald's run up & walk back to his bowling mark is just as long as any normal quick bowler who bowlers 135+ clicks. So he didn't aid in keeping the over-rate down - the entire attack just collectively got through their overs well.

The SA batsmen where never in a position to be able to take of advantage of McDonald since he was an obvious weaklink, until the final test @ Capetown when they got accustomed to the AUS pace trio on flat pitch & absolutely slaughtered McDonald.

After Bollinger got injured, Nannes should have been called up & would have certainly been more destructive as part of a 4-man pace attack in those conditions.

Hard to criticize that when they ended up winning the series. At the start it was very dodgy but paid off in the end.

Teams can certainly win series with passenger/weak link players if other players pick up the slack for him. Perfect example of this was the 2001 Ashes series with Brett Lee basically being carried through that entire series, when better options in D Fleming should have played.

I wish he doesnt play. I am sure we can still win without Laxman because Australia are not the same world dominating team anymore, and also we have mostly had the wood over them when playing in India. Also it will be an awesome opportunity for Pujara to debut against a strong and top quality side in test cricket. Fingers crossed!

This should be a good match, a few new faces including Pujara and George. North still there, deadset that guy is never going to be dropped at this rate.

we need a few quick wickets early. If the Aussies get out of this session like 80/2 or so.. then we are in trouble.

Ah, so Pujara makes his debut. Boy, hope he comes good. We need a replacement for one of Dravid, Laxman and Tendulkar once they retire and the guy replacing them has to start running hard from the first match. Hope Chintu (as Pujara is fondly called) makes a splash and makes the transition far more easier.

Again we lose the toss! Once, luck used to favor Dhoni a lot. Nowadays, it doesnt favor him much in the tosses. How I wish I could watch India bat.
