Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

Well I think he bowled similarly during the home summer, just that the batsman werent good enough to hit him away. Rarely does he bowl decent overs that threaten, its a big problem. Its hard to take when we are losing, answers need to found, 2 wickets at 73 seems like a decent answer to me. Give him until the 3rd WACA test to sort out his game, after that he's gone.

Sounds fair enough, it would let Johnson sort out his game at domestic level (if he does get dropped) and hopefully return to the team as he remains a pretty good bowling prospect.

If Johnson makes the Indian tour or any player, its highly unlikely that they will be dropped for the Ashes. Selectors aren't known for taking too many punts and it would be one bringing in someone outside of the setup.

This tour will be exciting provided that all players are fit

A bowling average of 37.73 with an economy rate of 4.02 in England as opposed to a career bowling average of 28.87 with an economy rate of 3.26 (at the time of this post) suggests an issue in English conditions.

Not really TBF. As i mentioned the PAK vs AUS tour thread. Johnson since he became a test quality bowler vs SA 08/09 - he has developed a trend in his career when he comes back from a break from cricket he takes a while to find his rhythm. He is one of those bowlers who needs to keep bowling to maintain rhythm.

- After his superb test series @ home SA 08/09. He was rested from the first few ODIs vs SA & when he came back intially he bowled pies. He didn't catch himself until the start of the ODIs vs NZ.

- On the tour of SA he went in with good bowling form & bowled supeb the entire tour.

- Had a break going into the 09 Ashes & has he himself said his family issues sort of affected his bowling & he had a poor Ashes. But he sorta recovered during the ODIs last year.

- His limted overs & test form was solid from the Champions Trophy to the T20 WC. But again another break, got injured & missed the ODI vs ENG & T20s vs PAK - thus he struggled to find his form in these two test vs PAK.

It's a huge problem given the Ashes in England usually has a decent break, so unless hes playing County cricket, there will be another repeat which we can't afford.

So many excuses, so many crap overs. Come on guys, an as aussie supporter i would love Johnson so rip through batting lineups but his displays have been that of a park cricketer, maybe he just isnt that good???

Nah i wont say its excuses. In his last test match before the 2 test vs PAK he had that superb 6 wicket-haul vs NZ. You dont suddenly become crap in 5 months.

When he was on fire in SA 2009 in very similar conditions to ones in the tests vs PAK. He was getting the ball to swing.

A bowler like Andrew Flintoff even when he kept having to stop start during his many injuries post 2005 Ashes. Always managed to find his bowling rhythm immediately - Johnson to date struggled to get his rhythm back until a few games of playing.

I reckon the physio & coacg needs to work out some kind of extra nets bowling or something for him between series breaks.

Seriously hope Zaheer is fit enough. Maybe rethink about Irfan and give him another shot (also just to appease all those who feel India's bowling would boost up dramatically with his comeback). Also not happy with both Ojha and Mishra, but Mishra sounds a better bet (heard Ojha has attitude problems, maybe that might affect his performance often). It should be: Zaheer, Ishant, Irfan and Sreesanth for the seam slots, and Bhajji/Mishra for the spin department.

Spot on old chap. Johnson's best series have been season ending ones. In the last 2 summers he's started out relatively ineffective: India tour in 08 was tough, but then he came good vs NZ and SA over summer and then was awesome sauce on the SA tour. While last summer he wasn't quite there v WI, got better v Pakistan (the figures look similar to the WI ones, but the Windies games were in Perth and Brisbane where he should have done better) and then he finally got it almost all together vs NZ.

So in that way, the 2 Tests v India will be GREAT for Mitch's prospects this summer. It'll get more bowling under his belt and he should taper into the summer nicely. I'll say it again, but it was RIDICULOUS to have one day of bowling warmup for that Pakistan series. And even on that one day against Derbyshire Ponting bowled the Bollinger, Hilf, Johnson trio for a mere 33 of the 79 overs bowled that day. It was dumb, it was stupid and it cost us as the pace trio weren't sharp enough to take advantage of excellent bowling conditions.

We know what Johnson can do but it's hard to carry a hot and cold bowler. What it also means is we keep living in the past of his tour of SA. I'm happy to give him this tour and the Ashes to prove himself but if he fails in those two series then we have to cut him loose.

I would better get Dhawal Kulkarni instead of either Irfan or Ishant. I am 100% sure he will perform better. And what has Mithun done wrong, why he should be dropped, drop Ishant and Irfan and get in Kulkarni and Mithun.

Agreed. Mithun has been one of the better bowlers for India in this series so far. Ishant is leaking runs. Currently he has figures of 4 wickets @ 76.50 with an economy rate of 5.18, which is Test cricket is much too high. Mithun fares slightly better with 5 wickets @ 54.40 and an economy rate of 4.38. Still expensive, but still better than Ishant. If anything, keep Mithun, drop Ishant.

I'm hoping India give Mishra a run in the last Test because Ojha has been terrible. 1 wicket for 311 runs isn't going to cut it.

I am just hoping that the SriLankan curator won't come up with another stupid batting heaven.
If that'll be case, the match will be more interesting, and India should really go for 3 seamers, if not then Mishra to come in.
