Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

Ok calm down girls, let's just wait for the series to finish and make our judgement then (although there aren't really any to be made unless one of the teams wins 2-0). We don't always see full strength teams these days due to burnout so it's often a 'perfect world' scenario.

As for the upcoming series, I can say India have the upper hand with their batting powerhouse and their performance in past 15 tests.

Let's see what Ishant will be like against Ponting.:sarcasm

Ok, I hope the media doesnt build that rivalry up for this series. I am sure Ishant wont do the same thing he did to Ponting in that series. I would be happy enough if Ishant comes back and picks crucial wickets and bowls good lines. I want Ishant and/or Sreesanth to hit back hard. We need one of them to shoulder some responsibility during the WC too (even though both have been bad LOI bowlers).

We always talk about India-Australia overkill but I actually can't wait for the series to start. October seems so far away :D

Hope Zak is fit for this one!!

So, what do you guys reckon about Siddle or Harris coming back in when fit in place of Johnson? Something has to change, and i'm not sure whether we can keep on falling behind the game with his very average displays, which seem to be common now. Of course its not just him, but one of Harris or Siddle would be a much need boost to the attack.

Hmm, Johnson is still our best bowler when on song. Although dropping him just to wake him up wouldn't be the worst move.

He did very will in India in 2008 though, and as a rookie at that.

Someone either has to wake up or be dropped in favour of someone less loose, the worst thing about this pakistan loss was all 3 frontline seamers being wayward, especially on day 1 and the end of day 3. no team can afford that. It would be a disaster to lose in india and go into the ashes test with a bowling lineup that has won nothing.

I don't really rate Siddle too highly at present. He did well in SA '09 (but then again so did everyone else). Since then he hasn't impressed me much. He seems to have a lot to learn. He's got the raw talent, but I'd love to see him bowl for Victoria for another year before we start picking him again. Anyway I think Siddle and Bollinger are very similar bowlers. Both run in hard and bash it into the deck rather than having too much subtlety about their work. Both can apparently swing it, but it seems very hit and miss for either of them. I think I'd only want one of them in an attack.

But I think the main problem in the Pakistan games was our lack of bowling practice. Hilfenhaus had just come back from injury and it's well documented how Mitch can struggle after a long lay off yet we gave them 10 overs each in a single warm up game - half a day's bowling basically

Harris seems to be the sort of bowler we need but I can't see the selectors dropping Johnson so the only place he could take is either Bollinger or Hilfy.

Yeah we definitely need Harris in the sub-continent, he is a Dizzy type bowler who I feel will best perform in those conditions.

I don't think we should be looking to drop a member of our pace attack already. I've said before that I believe one of the strengths (although it is perceived and criticized as a weakness by some) of Australia's selectors is the faith they show in players. I think the troubles of Australia's pace attack can be put down to their style/type of bowling not suiting the English conditions (except for Hilfenhaus who just came back from injury) and in my opinion that's not enough justification yet to drop a member of our pace attack outside of English conditions.

If Johnson has a shocker in India....

Also, bowling pies on legstump and being cut for four every over doesnt indicate a problem with conditions, its just crap bowling. I think we've seen enough of it now from Mitch. That SA tour was quite the fluke it seems. We need guys to stand up, not ruling themselves out of series due to having some crazy arm length tattoo infection.

Johnson finally looked good the last few overs he bowled. Funny how a year ago he was being compared to Wasim :facepalm

A bowling average of 37.73 with an economy rate of 4.02 in England as opposed to a career bowling average of 28.87 with an economy rate of 3.26 (at the time of this post) suggests an issue in English conditions.
