Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

The crappy thing about the India-SA series was that it was a 2 match series. India lost by a mile in the first game and SA lost the same way in the second game and the seamers were the one who did it in the first innings of the second game at Kolkata. Who is to say that we would`nt have had India winning the series had they played a 3-game series. If you remember, last time in SA, India were 1-0 up after the first test as well. So a 2 match series is really not what you want when you have 2 good sides competing.

Also, inspite of the flat wickets when Australia toured India last time, it was Zaheer and Sharma who were the difference between the 2 sides. The spinners only did the finishing act, in my opinion. The stats might show that spin got equal number of wickets as pace in that series but it was the seamers who won us that series along with the batsmen. The Indian seamers outbowled the Aussie attack of Siddle, Johnson, Lee, Clark in that series.

You Indians seem to forgetting or are unaware of the fact that AUS pace attack was injured (Lee & Clark) & inexperienced during that series (Johnson, Siddle).

Plus for India. Sharma is regressed ALOT since that 2008 series.

Indeed. This time it'll be a far improved and hopefully fit pace attack, and while Hilfenhaus and Harris may struggle due to a lack of swing Johnson, Bollinger and Siddle can all be genuine flat wicket bowlers, and are far better than last time. Throw in IPL experience and the succesful ODI tour of 2009. Plus Bangalore and Mohali are probably the two most similar wickets to Australian ones when prepared properly, both can be sporting wickets.

Sharma now suffers from the injuries that were always going to haunt his frame, Harbhajan is up and down, Mishra I don't see much in, Ojha is pretty good and Zaheer isn't the bowler he used to be.

Mishra is probably the best out of the lot unless Harbhajan has one of his good matches.

Hopefully Hilfenhaus' spot in Australia's Test team for the first Ashes Test in Brisbane isn't placed in danger if he struggles in the subcontinental conditions, I think he'll be pretty good for us everywhere else. :yes

Exactly ;)

I think he's gotten over the judgement where people thought he could only bowl well on swinging decks. Hoe he'll go in India remains to be seen but essentially he's a line and length bowler, as is Siddle.

The competition for pace bowling spots now is ludicrous. Johnson and Bollinger are really the only locks, and Bollinger could be a few bad series away from being dropped.

You'd think so, since Johnson is playing the Pakistan series and Siddle is being left out for security.

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
North
Paine
Smith
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

That's the side that will most likely play against Pakistan. Khawaja may come in if North fails in both innings of the first test but I doubt it.

In India I'm guessing it'll be a squad like this:
Watson
Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey

North
Haddin
Hauritz

Smith
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Siddle
Bollinger

With the ones in bold certainties to play. North could possibly be dropped before then and Hughes to come in to the team. Khawaja looks like he'd be the squad replacement. Or maybe he'd come into the team and Hughes in the squad. White it seems will no ever be picked for the Australian test team :(

Lee did play at Bangalore, Mohali and Delhi in 2008. He only missed the final test. I don`t know what you are going on and on about. Johnson played the entire series. Clark only missed one test match as well. If you want to bring up excuses like that , India were without Zaheer in Australia last time. Even then we beat you guys comprehensively at Perth against an Aussie quartet. Zaheer was arguably the best seam/pace bowler around at that time.

EDIT: Lee played all 4 tests in that series.

Lee was battling a virus and ankle injury throughout the series, and Clark an elbow injury. So that's what he meant. Khan didn't make a great deal of difference at Melbourne anyway.

If IIRC Lee did play the final test, it was Mohali that he missed. Clark missed Nagpur.

I think this thread was opened to discuss the upcoming series not the old India-Australia series.

This make things more intresting.....old series flashbacks....
Anyways this time they are fit and sound.....
let them come Indian will prove their metal again

The Indian test squad must have few changes. Remove Yuvi and Raina and get in Pujara and Rahane!!

I hope Zaheer and Bhajji get injured and we beat Aussies to not leave any room for excuses this time.

We should also say that it would have been 3-0 if Dravid was in form :facepalm.

Ifs and buts only go so far. There is no guarantee that Australia would have won even if all those excuses you mentioned didn't exist. You can only work with what you have and that is that India won 2-0. End of story.

Yes.....
Every team after loosing makes excuses....
They had payed much attention to excuses rather than their game..so lost..!!!
