Australian Tour of India, October 2010/11

bad day for India I can say, they should have bowled Aussies out for somethin under 350. Sehwag's wicket was crucial too.

the best thing was Dravid looked in good tough. Now Dravid-Tendulkar partnership is very crucial for this match. And I expect Laxman to score a century atleast against their favourite opponents.
Also I don't expect anything from Sharma but whatever he will make today, he should make it fast.

Also I think this match will be a draw.

Hmm yeah, I was a bit annoyed too at the deep square leg in over 1, especially when the bounce is barely getting above the stumps - who's gonna hook to deep square?? It was interesting seeing Sehwag's wheel though. All his singles were leg side, all his boundaries were offside, so why not reverse the thinking for an over or 2, bring everyone on the legside up and push most of the offside guys to the fence? Make him do something different. It kinda ended up that way after a while, but it might be worth experimenting with, especially if those leg side guys are catchers, like a leg slip, tempt him to play shots he's not wanting to play eg. pull shot.
I guess the counterpoint was the matter of the laws, that if you have two catching men behind square, then it's a risky ploy. The batsman doesn't necessarily need to play good shots to get past the fielders and the lack of protection would discourage the bowler if it wasn't going his way. Just to really annoy the batsman, maybe you could have a catching man just in front of square, so you could also have the defensive fielder in the deep. However, that would mean a 4-5 field, so blocking up the offside field would have to be a separate (and probably inferior) tactic.

Hilfy looking dangerous with that bit of swing, certainly the most impressive of the bowlers so far. Unlucky not to get Dravid just then, hes looking a bit suspect against him. Johnson was struggling to get the ball to bounce.

Sharma frustrating the Aussies but I don`t think it is helping us in the sense of winning the test. We should still be looking at scoring at a decent pace and try to give ourselves a chance of winning this one. You never know what might happen with a 50 run lead and a couple of early wickets in the 2nd innings. Zaheer is bowling well and we really need one more bowler to step up to make it interesting.

This is where the game looks so different before and after Sehwag gets out. While he is in and scoring quickly, we are always thinking of a win. The reason for us having enough time to win tests over the last 2-3 years has been Sehwag. We must at least aim at surpassing the total by stumps if we manage to bat the day out.

When Sehwag got out, I was thinking in terms of avoiding defeat. So far, Ishant has dug in with Dravid and has kept our ship floating well. This is not a bad partnership at all. I feel its going good. Dravid seems to be batting well (happy about that).

A lead of 120, and then they can heap pressure on a strokeless Australia with men around the bat and spinners on a deteriorating pitch.

Dravid is scoring at a decent rate, and if Tendulkar gets going anything is possible.

Soooooooo flat.

A 50 run lead and we will be in business in the second innings. If Australia bat the way they did in the first innings, they will be under pressure. India should have really got them out around 300 in the first innings had they taken the catches. It may not be that easy to bat afterall.

The Wall Dravid is batting faster than all of our batsmen, shows you just how negative our batsmen were.

India is traling by 237 runs and I hope they will surpass 400 mark today if Sachin and Dravid will be batting for one more session. They can reach it IMHO.

Sharma was really crap, he should have made runs at a fast rate, now his 18 isn't good for India and he wasted 56 odd balls. He should have tried to hit but he is crap in all departments.

The only good bowler today was aussies was Hilfy but also to a short extent.
