Story Australia's Commonwealth Bank Series - vs @ Perth: Ind: 119/5

i reckon he should enforce the follow on make it more embarassing for the POMS!!!!!

Australia get close

Australia have come close to knocking off all the England batting line-up. Stuart Clark nearly picked up his 5th wicket of the Iinnings, but it wasn't to be. Stephen Harmison tried a block at the ball, but being a tail ender, Harmison didn't pick the late swing that Clark pitched at him. The ball came off the edge of the bat and was heading to 2nd slip. The ball was low, so Ricky Ponting at the time, at 2nd Slip had to take a massive dive down and to his right to try and take the catch. The ball was quick and low,, so it skidded past Ponting at 2nd slip, and went to the boundary. A lucky left off for Harmison and England, but it was a great attempt from Ponting at slips.

Although the chance went missing, it wasn't long before the Australian's cleaned up the Batting by Harmison and Giles. Brett Lee wouldn't have anything of their ignorance, and took the last wicket of the Innings. Ashley Giles was the man to go. And guess what, Adam Gilchrist took a record 8 catches in this Innings, with the wicket of Giles being his last victim of the afternoon. Brett Lee was happy he took 4 wickets for the match and so did Stuart Clark. Both men will be pushing for a best on ground performaces after the next Innings.

So that's it. England have been bowled out for 114. Australia have decided not to make the England side follow on, and will bat out another session. Let's see if the English can redeam themselves and bowl well, so they have a chance against the Australian's when they come out and bat next.

Hello Laides and Gentlemen and welcome the the Cricket Show I am Mark Nicholas and i am joined by Richie Benaud and Ian Chappel. Welcome boys.
If you have just joined us, stay tuned to this session of the 3rd man's chat, because myself, Richie and Chapps will take you through all the action of the 1st Innings. Well lets go back to the 1st Innings of the Australians. They dominated really didn't they. Ricky Ponting was a unstopable man. He wasn't missing a thing that came his way from the English bowlers.
It was hard going early for the English bowlers, with Ponting coming at number 3 to take over from the dissapointing way that Langer went out.
He had a great Innings didn't he Chapps?

Ian Chappell: Well yeah he did, the thing that interests me though, is the way he celebrated his 100. He didn't seem overly excited to make a century. He was very detrmined to keep playing, and to try and get a bigger score, obviously concerned about the England batting line=up, he wanted to stay out in the middle as much as possible. Too bad for the Australian's that he was dismissed just some runs later, but still, it was a fine Innings from the Australian Captain. And Mike Hussey played some great cricket didn't he? Was a good Innings from Mr.Cricket, too bad he couldn't continue and bring home the century on the 1st Test, but it was still a enjoyable Innings from Huss. One he'll never forget.

Mark Nicholas: Well it was a great Innings from both the batsmen for Australia, both Ponting and Hussey well deserved their century's. But Richie. Getting onto the England Innings, what happened to the good old Poms? They chocked under pressure? Or were the Australian's just too good for them?

benaudrichie128x162qw9.jpg
Richie Benaud: Well Mark, i think it was a combonation of both. Australia played very well all afternoon. They pressured the English batsmen. Forced them to play shots, and forced them to think twice about what ball they are going to pitch. It was mind games out there, displayed by the Australian's. It defiently didn't seem like it, but being known to the game, you could tell that Ponting was trying to play mind games with Vaughan and his batsmen. It was a great display of quick bowling from Lee and Clark, and then the spin King, Shane Warne comes in and takes 2 wickets, it was great to see.

Mark Nicholas: Indeed, something just went wrong for the England batsmen, right from the 1st ball of the whole Test. 2 days ago. Let's hope they can put up a better show this Innings. Australia have decided to bat again, to try and make it more difficult for the English. Australia alreay leads by 262 runs, maybe Australia will try and get Hayden and Langer to put on a 100 partnership, so they can lead by 300+ before declaring for the Poms, let's see what happens.
Richie, Chapps. Thanks for joining us.

I didn't rip it off. I couldn't find a banner with all 3 of them on there, so i decided to change it to the Cricket show, and forgot i had 3rd Man chat written

In my opinion not that its worth anything ponting shouldve enforced follow on. but England will need to bowl well here if they are any chance of winning

Aussies Settle Early

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome back to the Cricket. We are back here on the 1st day of the 1st Test between Australia and England. Now the story so far, is England have been bowled out for all out for 114. Australian and Ricky Ponting have decided not to force the follow on, to try and stretch the England batting attack, and see if they can get an extra 100-150+ runs to add onto the huge total England need to chase already.

With play just about to get under way. Good mates, Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden walk onto the ground to try and put a partnership together. The Veteran, Langer will be looking to redeam himself from the 1st Innings where he only made 16. Langer's highest score in a Test Match has been 250, he will be very lucky to make this many in this Innings, because Australia will probably declare before Langer can get going. Australia only need 100 runs, then they can declare and bring in the Poms to bat. Hayden and Langer will be looking not to loose a wicket and keep the Captain happy.

Langer was opening the batting for Australia. Stephen Harmison, the relied quick bowler for the English, will opening the bowling to Langer. Harmison now playing his 56th Test Match, will be looking to get some wickets rather quickly, and try and not let these 2 great Test openers to get settled and to more importantly, get a partnership going.
Harmison has got 211 wickets in Test matches, a good average, but none more important for his side and Country, then this Innings.

Stephen Harmison to bowl to Langer

Up the other end, Matthew Hayden will take the other end of the crease. The Hard hitting left hander, might try and go after these 2 opening bowlers, since he doesn't have much to loose.
The other England bowler is Matthew Hoggard. Playing his 66th Test Match and his 120th Innings. He has taken a few more wickets then Harmison has, with 247 he will be looking, along with Harmison to try and get this partnership out of the blocks early, so they won't have to face the great openers.

Hoggard starts to Hayden

But the minds of the England players to try and get the Australian openers out early was a lost cause. As we have seen in the past, Matthew Hayden is carving up the England bowlers. Hayden has now hit his 2nd boundary, and the umpire isn't used to using his arm this early in a Test Match :P.
Hayden is carving up the England openers, with some brilliant shots. His partner, Justin Langer is just standing up the other end of the crease and will be loving watching his team mate carve up the attack.

The In-Form Hayden

haydenboundariesrh0.jpg

Although while saying that, Hayden maybe be lucky to be still out on the ground. A beautiful pitched ball from Steve Harmison, came quick to the in-form Hayden. Hayden deciding this ball was too quick to smack around the ground, decided to play a defensive front foot shot.
The swing of the ball was the thing that caught Hayden by suprise. Harmison swang the ball a long way, just to miss the edge of the bat of Hayden's. Hayden was lucky to survive, and will be looking not to make the same mistake again.

Harmison dreads the chance he had
