The Ashes
2nd Test, Day 5

The match looked like it was heading towards a draw and both teams would be extremely disappointed to lose it from here. And Katich and Hussey made sure there wouldn't be any collapse as they battled out the overs, Katich finally getting to fifty halfway through the session, coming off 161 balls. England tried hard to get the breakthrough wicket trying Pietersen and Trott hoping to draw a loose shot but Katich and Hussey weren't tempted as they batted through to lunch to be 184/2, Katich 76* off 222 and Hussey also slowly moving along on 31* off 82 deliveries.

The skipper didn't last much longer though hitting one more boundary before chopping Tremlett on for 80 but Katich had done his job although would be disappointed not to score a century. Hussey was scoring runs at a non-existent rate but finally got going about halfway through the session hitting 15 runs in 15 balls to pass 50 but went back to his slow innings after that as Australia got to tea without losing another wicket, at 247/3, Hussey 69* and Clarke 20*, with Australia surely thinking about a declaration and giving themselves 30 overs to bowl England out.

They didn't think about it though as they continued after tea and Clarke managed to get to 41 before he chipped Swann straight back for an easy return catch, with Hussey on 86*. Ferguson hit one boundary and Australia only batted a couple more overs before they decided to declare, Hussey 87* and Ferguson on 4* as Australia made 290/4, a 356 run lead. Here was the Australian scorecard.

England started off well, scoring 25 runs off the first 5 overs, but Strauss batted really cautiously after that, although Morgan was keen to hit some quick runs as he finished 38* off 40 balls as England finished the match on 58/0 in a boring draw with Strauss finished on 15 not out. Neither team showed great quality in this match, especially with their wicket taking bowling. Simon Katich took the MOTM award with his two scores in the 80's but most of the batsman for both teams scored a decent amount of runs. Hopefully the third test will be much more exciting. That is it for today, we hope you will joing us for the third test where England will again look to level the series.

Simon Katich Defended Well to Force a Draw

Not the result we were looking forward to, anyways.
Nice to see Katich playing well and Clarke getting back in touch also.
England seems to be panicking with their bowling, Trott and Pietersen are bowling too much and heck they are wicketless.
And Morgan opening when Cook is still in the team, then what for Cook is there.

Well there should be no more boring tests. I've altered the averages in cricsim constantly and finally reached a balance where innings run rates are between about 3 and 4.5 and scores varying. The next match should be a lot more exciting. 16 matches of testing and finally got a realistic result.

The Ashes
3rd Test, Day 1

After a boring draw in the 2nd test, the Third Test here in Perth was hoping to be a much more exciting match. England has hopefully regained some of their composure after the horrid captaincy shown by Strauss in the 2nd test. The pitch is one that should offer some assistance to the quick bowlers like a normal Perth pitch but there is a nice breeze overhead and the pitch does look a tough dry and could probably offer some assistance to the spinners as well. Anyway, down to the toss and Strauss is still captain, that's good to see. And Australia have won the toss. Simon Katich has decided he'll have a bowl first. Australia have only made one change, Ben Hilfenhaus dropped for Peter George who will be looking to make the most of his chance. England meanwhile have now decided to drop Cook from the side and Morgan will also move back down the order. Pietersen will open the batting with Strauss and Collingwood comes into the side to replace Cook, and will bat at 5, with Morgan to bat at 6. Here are the lineups.

So Strauss and Pietersen make their way out to the middle. Bollinger to open the bowling. He runs in and a boundary first ball. Good length ball which Strauss fended at and it went flying through a vacant backward point for 4. Strauss definately wasn't waiting around as he hit his second ball for another boundary, straight and and full and whipped through midwicket for 4. Bollinger definately didn't have his line right though as Strauss continued to get into him hitting a further 3 boundaries in the first over and England were 20/0 after 1 over. Hazlewood looked better at the other end but overpitched slightly last ball of the over and Pietersen was onto it well driving it past a sprawling Ferguson at cover and away for 4. The Australian bowlers just coulddn't get on top of the English though as boundaries flowed, Strauss leading the way getting England to 64/0 after only 6 overs, Strauss 44* off only 23 balls and Pietersen 19* off 14. It took only 2 more balls for Strauss to bring up his fifty with back to back boundaries off Watson and England looked a new side. None of the Aussie bowlers could restrict the runs though as England kept on putting on the runs. Pietersen brought up his fifty off only 79 balls but Strauss was playing the most exhilirating knock, as he moved onto 95* off 83 with 3 overs still to go in the session. And again he chose to attack Watson scoring his century in only 86 balls, as England had managed to score at over a run a ball in the session. George was the one to break the expensive partnership though on the second last ball of the session, Strauss edging the pace bowler through to Haddin for a regulation catch and Strauss was out for 112, off only 96 balls, England 172/1 at lunch on Day 1.

Pietersen took over after lunch as he hammered the boundaries to move into the 80's. Trott's innings came to an end on only 15 though as he got a thick outside edge trying to drive Watson and Hussey held onto a good catch in the gully. Pietersen couldn't get hold of Hauritz though as he looked for those 3 figures as he managed to get a faint edge through to Haddin and Pietersen was out for 86. Paul Collingwood's return to the squad wasn't good at all though as he became Hauritz's second victom in the space of the 2 overs as he inside edged him onto the stumps for a duck. Bell and Morgan tried to push the game back toward the English but Hauritz was on the top of his game as he bowled a peach of a delivery to Morgan who was stunned as the ball gripped and turned back to hit the offstump from around the wicket and Hauritz was over the moon as he had figures of 3/42 as England had fell to 252/5, Morgan out for 13. Bell and Prior managed to battle their way through until tea though as they weren't looking out of it at 287/5 but they weren't looking great either.

Hauritz was looking like a legendary bowler as he got through the defences of Ian Bell to dismiss him for 39 in the first over after the tea break. Prior looked good after that though but he also fell a ball after he brought up his fifty as he was trapped in front by Hazlewood. Prior decided to review the decision thinking he inside edged it but hotspot couldn't give him anything and it was hitting the stumps so the decision stayed the same. Anderson was off the mark first ball with a boundary but he also fell LBW, as he got a very good yorker from Watson and England were now 333/8. The English collapse continued still though as Tremlett fell for 4, bowled by Katich. Bollinger then took the final wicket of Finn for 3 as England were bowled out for 346, Swann finishing 10* as Australia would still have to bat about 10 overs in the day. Hauritz finished with figures of 4/43, not used after he took his 4th wicket.

The Australian batsman went out with one goal in mind.. to bat out the day. And they did that well as batted out the 10 overs, Watson facing 31 balls for only 3 runs while Katich was on 13*, with Australia finishing the day 17/0, a deficit of 329. This has been a thrilling match so far and hope the rest of the match will be the same. Here was the Australian scorecard.

AUSTRALIA vs ENGLAND
At Perth
The Ashes
3rd Test, Day 2

Day 2 of this absorbing cricket match here in Perth and Australia have a long day ahead of them, trying to post a decent total in reply to England's 346. Katich and Watson would start at the crease with Swann to bowl the first over, a different move from the English. The first 6 overs didn't bring many runs as the Australian openers looked to get themselves set at the crease but Katich then hit back to back boundaries off Tremlett to get himself going as they scored 25 runs off the next 4 overs. Katich moved into the 40's looking for yet another half century while Watson was looking to also score a fifty but his innings was cut short when he was trapped in front by Finn, the original decision not out but Strauss reviewing it showed it just hitting the top of leg stump, enough evidence to overturn the decision. Katich then brought up his fifty in the next over though before Khawaja got off to a flying start hitting his second ball for a boundary and another beautiful drive late in the over to move to 8* off 6 balls. Australia were looking like they would go into tea only one down but it was again Finn who struck, Katich playing away from his body but only managed a thick edge which Collingwood took well at backward point as Australia went into lunch at 124/2, Khawaja 16* off 28.

Hussey got going straight away after tea hitting 2 nice shots for boundaries in the first 3 balls off Finn but played all around a straight one from Finn a couple of overs later and he was out for 12, Finn with his third wicket and Australia 132/3. Clarke would have been kicking himself after he left a wide one from Swann which turned back sharply and the umpire gave it out, and a good decision it was hitting the offstump and Clarke was out for 8. Ferguson got a nice full toss to start his innings and put it away to the boundary before skipping down the track the next ball and hammering Swann through the covers for an easy boundary. Ferguson was definately taking a liking to Swann as he lifted him over mid wicket for 6 next over before hitting another boundary late in the over. Not surprisingly, Swann was taken out of the attack but Ferguson liked Finn as well hitting a nice leg glance for 4 first ball before finding the gap and getting 3 runs the next ball. The batsman found runs easily as both moved on towards half centuries and Khawaja was the first to bring his up as he scored 9 runs in a Finn over to get to his fifty before adding another 2 boundaries before tea, Australia slightly on top at 238/4, Khawaja 58* while Ferguson was going strongly on 49*.

Ferguson brought up his fifty first ball after tea with a boundary but attention was back on Khawaja soon after when he hooked Anderson away for 6 before going haywire as he hit another 3 boundaries off the over to move onto 78*. It didn't take Khawaja much longer to get himself into the 90's and it looked like it would be another test century. A boundary off Swann moved him to 98 not out and off the last ball of the over, managed to cut it well piercing the infield and racing away for 4, a great test century for Usman Khawaja. Ferguson got into the action again with a couple more boundaries to move onto 91* but he was too over confident as he couldn't get anything on a straight Collingwood ball and was comprehensively bowled, unlucky not to get to the 3 figures after such a great innings. Nothing was stopping Khawaja though as he hit boundaries with ease as he moved towards the 150 mark and it looked like Australia would get through to stumps but Haddin was dismissed LBW off the second last ball of the day, to Collingwood for 28 as Australia finished the day at 402/6, leading by 56 runs and Khawaja 148*, Hauritz 0* off 1 ball. A great day for cricket here and hopefully we'll have more of the same throughout the rest of the test match. Here was the Australian scorecard.

Nobody Could Stop the Young Gun

"Young Gun" played well. :p Australians are going pretty well in this test match. They already have taken the lead and with 4 wickets in hand they should at least take the lead of 150.

Khawaja is really going great, what a series it's been turning out for him, hope he completes his 200 soon and tailenders hang on. Also well played Ferguson, great talent.

Australian 30 Man World Cup Squad Named

2rxuxpw.jpg

17 December, 2010

Australia's preliminary World Cup squad of 30 players was announced today. Usman Khawaja was given his chance being named in the squad after a promising start to his test career and his unbeaten century. Cosgrove was also named in the 30 man squad although Andrew Hilditch has announced that the only chance that he has of making the side is if he works on his fitness. Aaron Finch, Dan Christian and Steve O'Keefe were other stand out selections and going by the form of all three on the domestic circuit, they aren't bad selections at all. Apart from that, there aren't many surprises in the World Cup squad. Australia unfortunately only have one ODI before they have to name their 15 man World Cup squad which makes it tough. Here was the full 30 man squad.

Cameron White (Captain), Michael Hussey (Vice Captain), Doug Bollinger, Dan Christian, Michael Clarke, Mark Cosgrove, Callum Ferguson, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Usman Khawaja, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Clint McKay, Steve O'Keefe, Tim Paine, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, Shane Watson

The Ashes
3rd Test, Day 3

This match is shaping into one of the great games from cricket, which has had everything. From Strauss's lethal century in the first session on Day 1 to Hauritz's great spell of bowling which brought England back down to earth to Khawaja's lovely unbeaten century along with some nice aggressive bowling from Steven Finn and some great fielding has turned this match into one for the record books. It goes on though as Khawaja returns to the crease with Nathan Hauritz, Australia resuming at 402/6. Khawaja and Hauritz let the ball go and batted out two maidens to start the day but Khawaja then felt like having a go at Finn who clipped him away nicely for 4 and then played an elegant straight drive next ball to back it up and move onto 156*. Swann was brought into the attack a couple of overs later and his horrible bowling performance continued as Khawaja smashed him for 3 fours to move Australia closer to the 450 mark. England tightened things up after that though but Anderson finally broke through, getting a peach of a delivery through Hauritz's defence which had been very good before that but Hauritz had to go for 16, Australia 449/7, 8 overs before lunch. Khawaja continued to look his double century and got through to 192 not out at lunch, Bollinger having just hit the one boundary, Australia 469/7.

Finn started proceedings after lunch and got the huge wicket first ball, getting a beautiful yorker into Khawaja who couldn't keep it out as it hit him on the pad and the umpire gave the easy decision and even Khawaja knew not to review it, out for 192, but a brilliant knock from the young New South Wales batsman. Finn completed his 5 wicket haul in his next over as he also trapped Bollinger in front for 5, Finn on fire and Australia now at 474/9. Hazlewood looked to score quick runs but an expansive drive off Tremlett brought his downfall as he edged the ball back onto the stumps for 6, Australia all out for 476, George finishing not out on 0. So Australia lead by 130 runs going into the second innings. Here was the Australian scorecard:

Bollinger got Australia off to the perfect start as Strauss shouldered arms second ball which nipped back strongly to the skipper and he was trapped in front, the umpire with no hesitation. Strauss decided to review the decision but the replays showed it was still clipping the stumps and the decision was upheld. Trott got things going finishing with 2 boundaries from the first over but Pietersen joined Strauss in the sheds when he edged an outswinger from Hazlewood also second ball straight down the throat of Usman Khawaja at second slip. England got into the Aussies after that though as they scored at around 8 runs an over but the introduction of Hauritz into the attack changed things when Bell top edged him straight up to Hussey at midwicket who took a comfortable catch, Bell out for 34 coming off 33 balls and Hauritz with 1/0 from 1 over. England fought back again though to be 156/3 off 25 overs at lunch, Trott already 81* off 69 balls while Collingwood was also going superbly on 39* off 44.

Runs kept flowing after lunch for England as Collingwood brought up his fifty and Trott brought up his century with a boundary off Watson. Trott continued although at a slower rate as he fell to below a run a ball and became Hauritz's second victim when he chipped it straight to Ferguson at mid on for 124, England 235/4. That was Australia's only breakthrough in the final session though as Collingwood and Morgan batted well and sensibly to get through to stumps at 266/4, Collingwood 87 not out while Morgan was just getting started on 14*. How would this game turn out though? Surely there would be a resullt though. Here was the English scorecard and the Australian bowling figures:

AUSTRALIA vs ENGLAND
At Perth
The Ashes
3rd Test, Day 4

The game was still well in the balance and England would be looking to push on for a competitive total. Australia would be looking to make a few early breakthroughs and then rip through England's tail. Morgan who had been solid last time was excited by the prospect of Hauritz bowling the first hitting him for 2 boundaries in the first over before batting out a maiden from Hazlewood. Australia stuck with Hauritz which brought another six from Morgan with a slog over mid wicket but the flighted ball from Hauritz got him as it dropped late and got under the bat removing the middle stump, Morgan out for 29, England 282/5. Collingwood wasn't waiting around though as he didn't spend long in the 90's hitting 3 boundaries in a short space of time to bring up the 3 figures as he was feeling great with his spot under pressure in the side, especially after his duck in the first innings. Collingwood looked to push on but got a great ball from Dougie Bollinger which trapped him in front. Collingwood got the umpires to check it upstairs but it was hitting the top of leg stump and Collingwood had to go for 114. Watson nearly got Swann straight away when he got Swann on the pads who quickly ran a single. Australia reviewed the decision but the ball just hit Swann outside the line and the not out decision stood. Swann couldn't make the most of it again as Hauritz took yet another wicket, Swann inside edging to Katich who took a magnificent catch low down to his right. Prior then raced away though now with only the tail to support him as he brought up his fifty in 64 balls. James Anderson fell shortly after though the, the huge heave to the legside not managing to get bat on ball and he was out for 9, bowled by Bollinger. It looked like England would go into lunch 8 down but Hauritz got Tremlett plumb in front of the wicket as he took his 5th wicket, his first 5fa of the series after 3 four wicket innings performances as he has managed 18 wickets in the series already. So England were 393/9 at lunch.

Prior continued well after lunch getting some help from Finn who was defending nicely. He nearly made it to double figures but became Hauritz's 10th victim of the match, Prior finishing 423 all out, Prior left stranded on 77 off 115 balls. A great day of cricket so far and hopefully it will go down to the wire, Australia needing 293 to win, not the easiest total to chase. Here was the English scorecard.

The English were fired up in the first over and had the big wicket of Watson courtesy of a great catch from Bell who flew away to his left to catch a hammered cut shot in his outstretched left hand and Watson couldn't believe it, out for a golden duck, Anderson with the wicket and Australia 1/1 after 5 balls. The English fielders were really on their game as they kept it tight, Australia only scoring 4 runs off the first 6 overs. Karich started to get going moving into the 20's but Swann in his second over took the huge wicket of Khawaja, getting one to grip and beat the outside edge straight onto the off stump, Khawaja out for 9. There was a little surge before lunch, Katich racing to 40 at the end of the session while Hussey hit a few boundaries as well, 31 runs coming off the final 4 overs of the session, Australia going into tea at 65/2.

You don't normally see Katich getting out LBW but Finn decided to test it by firing one in straight at the pads and the skipper missed it, plumb in front of the wicket 3 balls after tea and Australia were 3 down. Clarke started with some fire but Hussey couldn't push on after making a start, chipping Tremlett straight to Morgan at short mid wicket for a run a ball 24, Australia now in deep trouble at 92/4. Things just kept getting worse for Australia though as Clarke got out for 39, off the bowling of Tremlett before Tremlett struck yet again, trapping Haddin in front for 4, Australia now 138/6, still 155 runs behind. Ferguson looked really good though at the crease as he hit 9 boundaries at the end of the day to finish on 44* and give Australia some hope, while Hauritz had shown to be very solid at the crease, 12* off 48. So Australia finish Day 4 on 180/6, still needing another 115 odd runs to win. We're going to have one great finale here tomorrow and we hope you won't miss it. Here's the Australian scorecard so far.

Prior Gave England Hope with an Unbeaten Half Century

Anderson was Fired Up after Dismissing Watson First Ball

Well done England, finally a good chance to win this test.
Prior played beautifully and Anderson backed it up with fine bowling.

Australia still needs 115 to chase and it would be really hard to them now as Ferguson is only left with the tailenders.

Well, the match is still not over. Ferguson is still there and if Hauritz can give him a good support still anything can happen. We never know with Hauritz. :spy
