AUSTRALIA BATTLE BUT ENGLAND VICTORIOUS

England beat Australia by 98 runs on the fifth day of the second PlanetCricket Ashes Test in Adelaide to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Starting the day needing just nine wickets for victory, the match turned into a thriller as the Australians held on until the final hour of play. Umair2000 and swacker both posted identical scores of 94, and you feel a big hundred from either of them would have saved the hosts in this Test.

As it is, England took the spoils thanks to Near's superb 4-68 and 3-92 from spinner Dipak.

The third Test of the series is in Perth, and with three tests to go Australia will have to come from behind to retain their PlanetCricket Ashes.

END OF MATCH: AUSTRALIA 330 ALL OUT (86.3 OVERS)
Umair2000 94 (155)-----swacker 94 (107)
Near 20-4-68-4 (economy 3.40)-----Dipak 24-2-94-3 (economy 3.83)

ENGLAND WIN BY 98 RUNS AND LEAD PLANETCRICKET ASHES 1-0 WITH THREE MATCHES REMAINING

Well done England. Scorecards from this match will be next.

England won by 98 runs
Man of the match: Manly

When you only get one chance to bat in two games, it's often a big failure that spoils your chances for the next few months. So I'm glad I avoided that and at least got fifty.

I guess I'm still in the Test team only due to injury, but at least that gives me more chances to potentially make myself indispensable...

Excellent effort from us tbh, but credit must also go to the Australians for taking it to the final hour. Bring on the third test! :)

TUG OF WAR ON FIRST DAY IN PERTH
Skater back, swacker whacks

3rd PlanetCricket Ashes Test, Perth, Day 1

All of Australia woke at once to watch to see if their cricketers could draw back the PlanetCricket Ashes. England won the second Test in Adelaide by 98 runs, and now it was on to Perth with the score Australia 0-1 England.

In the first Test in Brisbane, the England captain Skater took a bouncer on the ribs and was forced to sit out the second match. Estimations were he would be available once more for the final Test in Sydney - but on the first morning in Perth there was a surprise when Skater came out for the coin toss alongside his Australian rival Hooper.

It is always dangerous to change a winning team, but England merely reverted to the eleven that drew the first Test. Skater replaced 6ry4nj and would open the batting with Manly, also taking the captain's armband back from his vice. Australia were unchanged.

On a bright and sunny morning, England took a risk by electing to field first on winning the toss.

The tourists backed up their decision early on, when Simon Katich was the first man to go edging behind to Highlander999 off the bowling of farhans for just 2 runs.

timchrist984, Katich's opening partner, didn't last much longer when he was caught at slip by Pakistani Army off the bowling of farhans once again for 18. At this point Australia were 25 for 2.

With the last over of his first spell, farhans struck once again. A short delivery from England's best bowler bounced sharply and hedger_14 was caught in the slips by treva for 5.

Umair2000 and swacker managed to steady the ship slightly and reached lunch on day one at 77 for 3.

The second session was all about Australia. Umair2000 and swacker batted magnificently, showing the top order how to play. Umair2000 went to tea 60 not out, and swacker 106 not out. The home side had reached 193 for 3.

At last, with just under an hour left of the first day, Umair2000 fell. In 187 balls, he had made 74. It was a big wicket for Near, with Bevab taking a superb catch close in.

swacker carried on batting with supreme confidence, but he fell victim to the very first over with the new ball. He was caught behind off the bowling of farhans for an excellent 139. He had really saved his team. Marcus North and Hooper batted out the rest of the day.

Australia were 261 for 5 at the close of play. It was difficult to decide which team had the best day, as Australia had recovered magnificently from 26 for 3, but England got swacker the centurion out towards the end and will feel confident of knocking over the tail tomorrow.

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 1: AUSTRALIA 261 FOR 5 (90 OVERS)
Hooper 8* (45)------Marcus North 10* (24)
farhans 26-8-80-4 (economy 3.08)

AUSTRALIA LEAD BY 261 RUNS WITH 5 FIRST INNINGS WICKETS REMAINING

Player Of The Day: the award could easily have gone to farhans for his superb bowling, but for helping his team out of trouble it has to be swacker. His 139 came off 226 balls with 25 fours and his partnership with Umair2000 stopped Australia being skittled early on.

Great to have the chief back early from injury. We have our first-choice XI back - that's gotta be a good thing.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...:)

Well Look Like Australia Depends On Me And Swacker
