Barclay's Premier League 07/08 - vs Everton! *Youtube Goal Highlights* Stats now up!

Nice work but a loss to Birmingham!
You will have to work hard against Middlesbrough to win.

Round Two: Manchester United 4 - 3 Middlesborough

What a match, what a victory! This has to be one of the greatest ever matches in terms of excitement and heart stopping moments. In the end United win 4-3 but it wasn't all smooth sailing as they had to fight back after losing their lead and then trying to make a result of the match when it was in the balance. Starting was Van Der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Rooney and Tevez. With the only change in this match being Tevez to start for the first time in a United shirt.

A golden start for Manchester as Rooney slotted a ball into the back of the net in just the second minute, it was a case of disbelief for the fans as they couldn't believe that they had been able to put a goal on the board so early. A few minutes later and Rooney again goes for a blast outside the box, this time he narrowly misses and he is already looking dangerous - bad sign for Middlesbrorough defenders. But in no time, Middlesborough gets their first chance on goal is taken thanks to a terrible piece of man marking from Vidic as he lets his man take a wonderful header on goal that went low and hard to Van Der Sar's right - 1-1 the score now.

Now for another twist and turn Tevez slots a goal in past Schwarzer that puts United up 2-1 - now the Old Trafford stands are rocking as their new striker slides home his first goal of the season. But the lead is short lived after Mido again makes the scores level, this time at the 41 minute mark deep in the first half. What a match so far and only half has been played!

Wow, what a start for Middlesborough as they make the score 3-2 and take the lead for the first time in the game. After just two minutes Mido again scores with his left this time as he beats Vidic again who is left stunned at the top of the box. Now the fans have become quite and the game is headed for another loss to United, this couldn't have gone any worse. The goals for the visitors have all been the result of either poor man marking or a lack of speed. Neville, Giggs and Vidic have all been burnt off by quicker opponents - this isn't good. So Ferguson makes a bold call by taking off the experienced Giggs and puts first gamer Nani on the right wing, then he makes an even more bizarre move by taking off Carrick for the 19 year old Anderson. Looks like Ferguson knows that this match isn't going to be won if he leaves his tired legs on the ground. So its late into the match, 86th minute and then Anderson, who is pressurizing McMahon in the box, plucks the ball from his grasp and then lines up from just outside the box and goes hard with his left on goal...Top corner top class as Anderson pulls off one of the most greatest goals he has ever scored. This one was even more special considering the state of the match! He runs around like a chook with its head cut off as the United fans make a hell of a lot of noise for their newcomer, imagine that coming in for your first match for United and scoring in the 86th minute to give your team a chance for a draw.

With that goal the scores are tied at 3-3 and at least they can be happy to have at least made a result of this match, but then something else happens that no one saw coming. The dangerous Nani, who was making effective runs down the right wing latched onto a through ball from Scholes and then put a through ball to Rooney who was steaming in on goal one on one with the keeper. Arca stupidly dives in to tackle Rooney who is in full flight and he goes down. Can you beleive this? Now Ronaldo has the chance to put the Reds in front in the 88th minute and lift the roof off of Old Trafford. He calmly slots it in past the keeper going to the bottom left, Schwarzer went the right way but was just a bit slow and then the crowd went nuts! 4-3 to United and they have won a match that looked lost until the 86th minute!

So what a win, now United are hoping they can perform well against Newcastle who are second from the bottom and struggling.

Boateng makes it 1-1 with a great header

Then Tevez regains the lead for United as they go up 2-1, his first for the Reds

Mido produces the goods straight after half time

Take 2 - Mido scores again

Nani makes his United Debut

Anderson scores one of the greatest goals in his short career

A costly mistake from McMahon, slides in and takes out Rooney's legs

Ronaldo makes no mistake and the score is now 4-3 in the 88th minute

John O'Neil nearly makes it 4-4 but is denied by the upright, United goes on to win

Thanks for the comments, yeah, I couldn't beleive my luck when Arca slid in and Rooney fell over..I couldn't beleive it!

The table will be shown after my next match which I will post soon.

Nice win for Man U there, and nice pres.

Newcastle second from bottom. Now you are being silly.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, they are indeed 2nd last, Iam facing them next match at St James' park, who do you think wins;)

Round Three: Manchester United 2 - 0 Newcastle

Man Red traveled to St James' park for a match that was a must win for both sides if they were to put their seasons back on course. Newcastle are languishing in the bottom two while mid table United are desperate for an away win.

St James' Park was packed to the rafters hoping for a win...win they did not do. They were doomed from the outset after Viduka was ruled out through injury and decided not to start ex-Red Alan Smith who was desperate to impress his home fans. Anyways, United was so eager to follow on their momentum from that match against Middlesborough. United went in with the same side as last match with the only changes being Hargreaves for Carrick and Nani in for Ryan Giggs.

There was always going to be a mismatch in the midfield with the class of Ronaldo, Nani, Hargreaves and Scholes. And the amount of possession United had, 54%, made sure they were always in control. Newcastle were able to have 11 shots on goal but none of them really challenged Van Der Sar as he was able to maintain a clean sheet for the first time this season. Wayne Rooney was on the end of a wide cross from Gary Neville and easily slotted in a header within the first 10 minutes of the match...and from there it never looked like they were going to get back in the match, Newcastle.

Not to long after, there was a brilliant piece of play in the midfield above the D on the the edge of Newcastle's box. Nani and Hargreaves made a slick one two pass, Nani drew two defenders towards him and dished it off to Ronaldo who was unmarked in the box. He blasted wide to the keepers left and the rest is history...United up 2-0 and Newcastle couldn't claw there way back in the match. In the second half Ferguson brought on Anderson again and Tevez replaced Saha. Newcastle are now on a three match losing streak, while United claw their way back into the top half of the table after three EPL matches.

Key Match up

art.martins.jpg

On the right attacking side for Newcastle is Obafemi Martins, the young striker who has breathtaking pace. On him was United's little French left back, Patrice Evra. Both these players have good pace, good awareness and are very creative with the ball. But the honours go to Evra as he continuously blanketed Martins on his left side and prevented Martins from getting any realistic chances on goal. The fact that Evra covered 237 meters compared to Martin's 150 meters is just astonishing.

Neville puts in the cross that led to Rooney's goal

Then Ronaldo makes it 2-0, game over

Nani blasts from outside the box and narrowly misses out on a maiden goal

Match Stats

Man of the Match: Patrice Evra

Arsenal:hpraise Are Fourth, Could Be Better
good wins gaining momentum since first defeat
This Story Is Good But You Should Have More 'story' To It

Round Four: Manchester United 1 - 0 Fulham

From Old Trafford it is Manchester United hosting Fulham. Fulham came here to just compete and if they play well they can maybe steal a point from this match on the road. But thats not how it turned out. This match was a very one sided match as Fulham never really had a good five minutes of play as United totally dominated the play.

In the first half it was all one way traffic as Nani and Ronaldo on opposite wings were causing trouble. And the first and only goal came from Ronaldo as he received a great ball from Hargreaves that left him wide open on the left, he smashed a hard right footed shot that landed in the back of the net. He was immediately smothered with praise from his teammates. That 0-1 loss to Birmingham in the first round is now a long way from their minds as they start to claw their way back to the top of the table. In the second half there was nothing to note except the changes Ferguson made, giving Chris Eagles and Gerard Pique their first piece of game time for the season.

Highlights
Man of the Match: Cristiano Ronaldo
