Batting experience in the Next Version

i would say length rather than pace, the pace itself is slow, anymore slower would feel too sluggish.

Oh okay, I thought the main gripe was that it was too quick to react to. Personally I don't have a problem with the pace or picking the length but I generally only batted on pro level. As I say implementing the bowling plan system would enable there to be some form of indication before the ball was bowled. It wouldn't work for PvP though especially if choosing the length before bowling was removed, which I hope is implemented as this would improve bowling imo.[DOUBLEPOST=1445286834][/DOUBLEPOST]
No, the point is that addressing the problems people are having with reaction time purely with a slider isn't an ideal solution. A solution that actually allows quicker user response will clearly yield a playing experience closer to real cricket than just adding the option to turn all the quicks into slow medium pacers.

It's not ideal but it would help and for someone like yourself, you would be able to crank it up a notch.

Well I'm all in favour of it being a feature, but I'm hoping they can free up a bit more time for the user to react to the ball at current speeds as well.

Another thing that came to me about batting in game and difficulty levels.

On legend you would get the full force of AI intelligence, bowling plans, intelligent field placement, but it would be scaled down per level, so on rookie the AI would be what its like ATM

I'd like a length indicator that at the ball, was during delivery, and earlier or later depending on batsman's ability.

As I said though this would be possible when playing the AI but PvP not so, as the bowler wouldn't know what length he was going to hit until he has released the ball.

How can this be done though? Make the wicket a bit longer?

As has been lengthily discussed previously, you have to make your shot input quite early in DBC, and this obviously impacts the time you have to see the ball before making your shot choice.

If the batting controls reacted a bit more quickly, you'd get to see more of the delivery before having to commit.

As I've been saying since the nets were released, separating footwork and bat swing would be my preferred plan to squeeze a bit more reaction time out, but I don't think that's likely to happen as it's too much of a change from current DBC batting.

I'd actually forgotten about this, you're right regarding the shot input, I also voiced this opinion when the nets came out.
Hopefully separate footwork and batting swing will be looked at and implemented as this has been mentioned by a fair few as an improvement.

Just to put my 2 bobs worth in here I would just like to quickly say that I really like the general idea of the batting in DBC14 as I don't like markers on the pitch telling you exactly where the ball is going to pitch as was the case in earlier cricket games. This game feels closer to real batting as it is mostly reaction based which I don't mind as that's what real batting is like. Fast bowlers should feel fast and they've got that bit right.

I agree that there should be some (optional) feature to help gauge roughly where the ball is pitched. I tend to have more problem picking the length than anything (I play behind the batsman far camera) so perhaps just a very subtle flash of colour on the side of the pitch could be used to help with this. We've already got the colours of the different length balls:
Red- short
Green-good
Yellow- full

Perhaps this colour could flash on the side of the pitch designating the approximate length the ball will land (but not the line) as the bowler hits his delivery stride. Sorry this is very poorly explained but hopefully it kind of gets my idea across.

Obviously it would need to be done in a way that it isn't too obtrusive on the screen and realistic look of the game (personally I like as little input and help on screen as possible) and also so you are not just looking at the indicator flash up and not at the bowler which is what you should be focussed on.

If it's only earlier length assistance you would like, why not just have the circle around the ball that is already used in game but simply it being shown earlier?

I agree that any marker or indicator must be around or on the ball, so we're always watching the ball.

Except for co-op, where there should be 7 balls, and you're batting with a snooker cue.

I'd prefer a chopstick. You've an option of two. You can catch the ball with it and couldn't be given out handled the ball especially when you have a certain Steve Waugh, Mohinder Amarnath, Inzamam ul Haq or Ben Stokes playing.

Fwiw @cooks1st100 is saying all the right things (I think). @Dutch the way batting confidence works in CH is really simple:

- confidence determines your timing window, edge (inside/top/bottom/leading/fine/normal) probability, etc.
- it builds at different speeds for different batsmen and also depends on the batting conditions
- mistiming, edging, playing and missing, getting hit, etc. reduces it while timing a shot well, rotating strike and scoring boundaries increases it
- if you get hit your confidence takes a knock - the amount is determined by where you get hit and how hard

The AI adjusts this for the difficulty level you've selected (this is one of the ways difficulty level affects the game). This model is really simple but it seems to work quite well and you get fairly realistic emergent behaviour this way too.
