Battle of the Strikers (NOT CONTINUED)

Game 1 - The Action Commences

The strikers have finally got a chance to prove themselves with Hucknall. 7 save games and databases have been created for each player and the action has begun.

For the first game, Hucknall competed in a friendly on either Saturday the 14th or Monday the 16th. It was a poor start on a whole, as Hucknall won just 1 out of 7 friendlies, losing 5 and drawing another. Many of the matches were goal-feasts, and a staggering total of 41 goals were scored from the 7 games, an average of just under 6 goals for each game.

Nearly all of the strikers scored at least 1 goal in their debut match, however, there were two who disappointed.

Oh well, without further ado, here are the results!

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

14/07/07: Fleetwood vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Fleetwood 3-2 Hucknall

Fleetwood: Nathan Pond (62), Phil Denney (65, 90)
Hucknall: Steve Akers (85), Gary Ricketts (88)

Player Watch: Blake Superstar had a quiet game to start off. He was substituted in the 65th minute with a rating of 7. Superstar definitely wasn't a superstar in this game, though. He didn't really contribute anything to his team, and he will sit in second-bottom position after a poor round.

Points Earned: 8

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger (The Free-Kick Master)

16/07/07: Hucknall vs Coventry (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 2-4 Coventry

Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (9, 77)
Coventry: Leon Best (1, 35, 40), Jay Tabb (67)

Player Watch: Brendon Hedger had a very good game, up against Championship side Coventry. Hedger scored a double to get his season off to a flying start. The Free-Kick Master didn't score from any free-kicks, but he looked confident, hitting two into the back of the net.

Points Earned: 24

Striker #3 - Troy 'Legend' Lerana

14/07/07: Hucknall vs Eastbourne Boro (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 4-3 Eastbourne Boro

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (9, 21), Danny Mayman (31), Troy Lerana (pen 41), Troy Lerana missed penalty (57)
Eastbourne Borough: Dan Leach (8), Scott Ramsay (33), Paul Armstong (pen 64)

Player Watch: Troy Lerana kicked off his season with a goal against Blue Square South minnows Eastbourne Boro, although it was a penalty. Lerana also missed a penalty which he had to be disappointed about, considering his attribute for penalty taking is a comfortable 12. Hucknall scraped in a win though, in a high scoring affair. Lerana also contributed with an assist.

Points Earned: 19

Striker #4 - Shantanu 'Wazza' Ambekar

14/07/07: Hucknall vs Eastleigh (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 1-1 Eastleigh

Hucknall: Steve Akers (82)
Eastleigh: Danny Smith (45)

Player Watch: Ambekar had a disappointing game against Eastleigh. The man known as Wazza had been touted as a leading star for most Premier League teams by one of the club's scouts - a higher recognition than any of the other players, but it seemed it must've been a dodgy scout. Ambekar didn't get on the scoreboard and was substituted in the 71st minute with a player rating of just 6 against BSS side Eastleigh.

Points Earned: 7

Striker #5 - Avroneel 'Prince' Biswas

14/07/07: Hucknall vs Middlesbrough Res. (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 2-3 Middlesbrough Res.

Hucknall: Avroneel Biswas (3, 30)
Middlesbrough Res: Rhys Williams (38), Herold Goulon (80), James Cronesberry (90)

Player Watch: In a very tough match against a quality Middlesborough Res. team, Avroneel Biswas was the shining light, nailing two goals to nearly lead his side to victory. Biswas claimed a superb man of the match effort, to take the early lead in the competition after a great effort, in which he nearly sunk a strong Middlesbrough Reserves team. The Prince will definitely be happy after that superb brace.

Points Earned: 34

Striker #6 - William 'Wako' Ako

14/07/07: Tonbridge vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Tonbridge 6-3 Hucknall

Tonbridge: Luke Fontana (5), Alex Tapp (36), Richard Harris (40, 64), Steve Harper (66, 75)
Hucknall: Paul Dempsey (47), William Ako (50), Anthony Howell (80)

Player Watch: Despite Tonbridge coming out on top in a 9-goal bonanza, William Ako (or Wako Ako as fans call him already) was very solid, chipping in with a nice goal in his first friendly with the club. Despite Tonbridge playing in a lower league than Hucknall, in one of the lowest leagues in England, Hucknall weren't able to win as Tonbridge played some spirited football. Ako had a solid rating of 7 before he was substituted in the 75th minute. Ako's goal came from a long range free-kick, a brilliant curling effort to beat the wall and the goalkeeper.

Points Earned: 13

Striker #7 - Stuart 'Culli' Cullington

16/07/07: Hucknall vs Lewes (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 3-4 Lewes

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (44), Stuart Cullington (74), Martyn Mahon (88)
Lewes: Sean Taylor (pen 19), Paul Booth (32, 36), Jean-Michel Sigere (77)

Player Watch: Culli had a solid start, scoring a goal against Blue Square South outfit Lewes. It was another high-scoring game yet still Hucknall failed to win. Hucknall had managed just one win from the first round - that came from Troy Lerana's game. Cullington was good before being substituted in the 74th minute, and will take a mid-table spot as round 1 finishes.

Yes, my team won :) nice to score a goal on my debut, even though it was my penalty. Very unfortunate to miss the second one even though my attribute for that was 12. I love the way you are presenting this mate,

nice game for me in our sides 2-3 loss, a double and now im second on the leader board, haha very funny about the free kicks.

edit: and you put ledger instead of hedger.

My apologies Hedger, don't know how that happened. I've changed it anyway.

If we are lucky I might just have time to do a second game tonight, although I might leave it until tomorrow, after school. ;)

Depends how I feel, I guess. I'm sure nobody will mind more updates. :happy

I've got half of the second round done. Just encountered a slight problem where my stats have all dropped by about 5 and everybody else's seem to be staying the same. Cannot figure out the problem but I've posted it on a Football Manager forum so hopefully we can get my stats back to normal and continue playing. So, that's what it was. No wonder I haven't hit 6 into the back of the net yet! :D

So yeah, not sure why they have gone down, in the editor it still shows them as 20, 20, etc.

Problem solved with the attributes and everything has been fixed.

Meanwhile..

Game 2 - Hat-Trick Heroes

The second round of action for Hucknall was much more promising, as Hucknall won 4, lost 2 and drew 1. It was again very high-scoring - this time two strikers managed to bag a hat-trick to earn some serious points.

As the competition heated up and the strikers found their feet - the leaderboard started to extend, with some players gunning for the lead whilst some fell back.

Despite winning 4 of the 7 games, Hucknall's defence seemed to have some serious problems. Hucknall managed to score 18 goals, but their opposition in total scored 20 goals throughout the 7 matches. Despite that, some strikers still managed to cash in, with a few high-scoring encounters being played across the round.

Here are the results of the second round of games.

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

19/07/07: Weston-super-Mare vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Weston-super-Mare 1-2 Hucknall

Weston-super-Mare: Lewis Powell (6)
Hucknall: Mick Galloway (8), Ben Kistell (90)

Player Watch: Blake Superstar continued his trouble start to the competition as he failed to score against Weston-super-Mare in his second friendly. Superstar was subbed off the field after a poor showing, in which he earned a rating of just 6. Superstar will definitely want to improve on this poor start.

Points Earned: 10

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger (The Free-Kick Master)

20/07/07: Hucknall vs Arthurlie (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 2-1 Arthurlie

Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (58, 73)
Arthurlie: Stuart McKeown (7)

Player Watch: Brendon Hedger dominated, scoring two goals to make his tally 4 goals from 2 games. He looked comfortable from the get-go and was simply brilliant in Hucknall's 2-1 friendly win over minnows Arthurlie. Hedger picked up Man of the Match thanks to his brace and he looks a real threat to this competition early. How long will it be before another club is interested?

Points Earned: 38

Striker #3 - Troy 'Legend' Lerana

18/07/07: Hucknall vs Edinburgh University (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 0-5 Edinburgh University

Hucknall:
Edinburgh University: Gary McLaughlin (8), Thomas O'Reilly (20, 53), Michael Hazeldine (pen 27), Sean McGregor (90)

Player Watch: Troy Lerana had a shocker as Hucknall were flogged by non-league team Edinburgh University, despite Hucknall having 10 shots to Edinburgh's 12. The match should've been closer but there was a lack of talent up front as Lerana failed to do anything. The Legend did not live up to his name, earning a rating of just 5 before being substituted.

Points Earned: 6

Striker #4 - Shantanu 'Wazza' Ambekar

18/07/07: Ashton Utd vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Ashton Utd 6-6 Hucknall

Ashton Utd: Rudi Coleano (13, 90), Glyn Barker (17, 64), Ben Smith (48), Darren Armstrong (90)
Hucknall: Danny Bacon (4), Shantanu Ambekar (28, 58, 78), Mick Galloway (72), Peter Knox (90)

Player Watch: After a poor start to his campaign in which he scored just 7 points, Ambekar bounced back with a brilliant performance, scoring a hat-trick in an incredible 6-6 draw. Shantanu Ambekar, else known as Wazza, was unbelievable, putting 3 into the back of the net to collect a rating of 10 and a man of the match award. With this hat-trick Ambekar earns the title of gaining the most points in one round. Ambekar contributed alongside his stunning hat-trick with two assists. An unbelievable effort from Shantanu Ambekar, bagging 60 points.

Points Earned: 60

Striker #5 - Avroneel 'Prince' Biswas

17/07/07: Prescot Cables vs Hucknall Town (Friendly)
Final Score: Prescot Cables 3-4 Hucknall

Prescot Cables: Francis Barry (27, 61), Darren Byers (66)
Hucknall: John Stannard own goal (16), Avroneel Biswas (40, 74, 80)

Player Watch: With Biswas entering round 2 with the lead over the other strikers, he would be under some pressure to keep his performance level up. As Ambekar scored a massive 63 points in the match before, Biswas knew he was going to have to play brilliantly to keep his lead. But play brilliantly, the Prince did. A sensational hat-trick from Biswas and a 4-3 win for Hucknall earned the Prince almost maximum points. He was stunning through-out, earning man of the match alongside a player rating of 9. This really showed that the Prince was in it to win it, and he definitely looks deadly after this round.

Points Earned: 58

Striker #6 - William 'Wako' Ako

17/07/07: Hucknall vs Aberystwyth (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 1-3 Aberystwyth

Hucknall: William Ako (38)
Aberystwyth: Tim Evans (25), Luke Sherbon (33), Michael Hodgson (89)

Player Watch: It was Wako Ako's second consecutive loss with his new Hucknall team but fans weren't too worried, with Ako showing solid form, slotting in a goal to keep his hopes alive. Ako was solid, scoring a goal and earning a player rating of 7 before being substituted late in the game. He is not near the front-runners just yet, but things can change very quickly.

Points Earned: 13

Striker #7 - Stuart 'Culli' Cullington

19/07/07: Hucknall vs Rushden & Diamonds(friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 3-2 Rushden

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (13), Gary Ricketts (63, 85)
Rushden: Sam Smith (79), Lawrence Lambley (90)

Player Watch: Stuart Cullington would've been disappointed after failing to score a goal in his side's 3-2 victory over BSP team Rushden & Diamonds. Hucknall looked threatening and Culli played quite well in his team's victory. Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Culli contributed with an assist. He will find himself low on the table now after scoring just 1 goal in 2 games.

If you had been paying any attention at all to the thread you would realise that yes, Hucknall are in a league.

Hucknall play in the Blue Square North. The league games begin on the 11th of August, so there isn't too long until it begins. There will be 3 friendlies left before the season starts.. maybe one game will have a different lineup of friendlies where they don't play as many, but 3 will be the norm.

Anyway, game 3 updates should be posted tonight. Expect them in about an hour.
