Battle of the Strikers (NOT CONTINUED)

Game 3 - A Haul of Four

The competition heated up after game 3, with a few players bagging some serious points as the pressure started to build. With the season only two or so more friendlies away, the players are working hard to earn as many points as they can before the season starts. Everyone looks threatening - with the exception of my boy Blake Superstar who is playing like he's a drunken fool. Here are the scorelines for round 3.

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

23/07/07: Woodley Sports vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Woodley Sports 4-3 Hucknall

Woodley Sports: Paul Wood (10, 47), Ishamel Jeffers (68), Victor Chambers (89)
Hucknall: Danny Bacon (3, 73), Gary Ricketts (77)

Player Watch: Blake Superstar continues to fall further and further behind after yet another poor showing. Superstar failed to score for his third consecutive game. Blake is already sitting in last position and he seems to be having some serious problems with a goal drought. Blake had just a rating of 6 before being substituted in the 69th minute.

Points Earned: 7

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger (The Free-Kick Master)

23/07/07: Prescot Cables vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Prescot Cables 3-4 Hucknall

Prescot Cables: Paul Prescott (24), Francis Barry (59), Steve McEwan (pen 80)
Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (33, 50, 52), Ryan Mouter own goal (37)

Player Watch: Biswas managed a hat-trick against the Cables in the second round, but this time it was Hedger doing the damage as his Hucknall played off against the Cables, recording a 4-3 win in which Hedger was inspirational. The Free-Kick Master was at his stunning best, and he lived up his title, striking a stunning free-kick from 25 yards out from almost directly in front, somehow beating the wall and the goalie for an incredible goal. With Hedger earning 58 points, he will definitely now be off to a great start.

Points Earned: 58

Striker #3 - Troy 'Legend' Lerana

22/07/07: Alsager vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Alsager 2-5 Hucknall

Alsager: Anthony Marshall (41), Dave Whittaker (42)
Hucknall: Troy Lerana (3, 20, 45, 64), Mick Galloway (34)

Player Watch: After Troy Lerana's shocker in which he scored just 6 points with a player rating of 5, he bounced back with an unbelievable haul of four, earning him the most points ever to be earned in one round at this early stage of the competition. Lerana was unbelievable, striking four into the back of the net, as Hucknall dominated over a weary Alsager. Lerana gets bonus points for a haul of four.

Points Earned: 84

Striker #4 - Shantanu 'Wazza' Ambekar

21/07/07 - Buxton vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Buxton 2-2 Hucknall

Buston Paul Walker (36), Gary Sucharezwycz own goal (63)
Hucknall: Danny Bacon (34), Ben Kistell (90)

Player Watch: After Ambekar's last round efforts he would definitely be expecting more this game - but his form proved to be too patchy. He didn't trouble the scorers and only managed a player rating of 7, earning just 8 points. Not a good effort from Ambekar and he will want a big name next week.

Points Earned: 8

Striker #5 - Avroneel 'Prince' Biswas

20/07/07: Hucknall vs Kidderminster (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 1-0 Kidderminster

Hucknall: Avroneel Biswas (53)
Kidderminster:

Player Watch: With Biswas sitting comfortably on top after round 2, he now had a tougher assignment - a friendly against Kidderminster, who were in the Blue Square Premier, a league above Hucknall. It looked set to be a tough match but Biswas played superbly, scoring a goal before being substituted with a rating of 8.

Points Earned: 17

Striker #6 - William 'Wako' Ako

22/07/07: Hucknall vs Farnborough (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 5-3 Farnborough

Hucknall: William Ako (14, 25, 50), Eric Graves (39), Danny Bacon (66), William Ako missed penalty (50)
Farnborough: Charlie Comyn-Platt (12), Neville Roach (18), Marcus Richardson (30)

Player Watch: Wako Ako finally got into some form, after dibbling and dabbling with 2 from 2 after the first two rounds. Ako slammed a hat-trick to win the game for Hucknall in front of an emotional home crowd of 122. The small crowd seems to love Ako's presence already. Ako missed one penalty but it didn't matter as he picked up the rebound to score his hat-trick. A big round for Ako will surely move him up the table. 58 points has now been scored by 3 different players in one round - it seems that is now the lucky number for the strikers.

Points Earned: 58

Striker #7 - Stuart 'Culli' Cullington

22/07/07: Hucknall vs Stevenage (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 0-1 Stevenage

Hucknall:
Stevenage: Scott Laird (45)

Player Watch: Stuart Cullington is now struggling further after scoring just 1 goal from 3 games. Cullington now drops to the second-bottom position and definitely needs a big improvement. To be fair, he has played against two BSP teams in a row, but he failed to deliver in this match, despite earning a rating of 7. He could be struggling if he doesn't manage to score a few - next game he will definitely be fired up.

Points Earned: 8

yay, go me. i did what i didn't do in the first 2 rounds, 1. score a goal from a free kick. 2. score a hattrick.
and with the points, the last time i knew, #3 - #1 was only moving up 2 places, not 3

Edit: I've still scored all my teams goals excluding a own goal by the opposition lol.

well i dont think ill be in this team for long. I wouldn't be surprised if i got an offer from liverpool, man utd or chelsea.

Feck off I missed a pen! :p

Ah, well, I'm moving on up.

Will.. you should read the post more carefully, you scored off the rebound from your missed penalty so it didn't in effect mean anything.

One more day left of school before I get mid-year holidays - looking forward to it.

My next update might not be tonight, but it will include three rounds. :D

I realised.. it is kinda unfair if I don't show you my stats, considering I am competing.

Here you go everyone.. Blake Superstar as we know him.. mystery man revealed.. don't choose these attributes unless you want to come last... :D

Change of plan - instead going to put each round up one at a time. I have finished three rounds in advance though, so I will put them up whenever. Anyway - here's the 4th game and let's see how the strikers fared!

Game 4 - The Heat Is On

The pressure intensified as the strikers continued to score. Would there be any change in the leaderboard? Or would Hedger retain his lead with some more strong showings. Let's see how it turned out, for game 4.

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

27/07/07: Hucknall vs Portsmouth Reserves (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 2-4 Portsmouth Reserves

Hucknall: Blake Superstar (27, 33), Blake Superstar missed penalty (50)
Portsmouth Res: Danijel Subotic (41), Jordan Hughes (45), Marc Wilson (85), Supat Rungratsamee (90)

Player Watch: After 3 matches without a goal, Blake Superstar finally broke his drought, scoring two goals against a quality Portsmouth Reserves lineup. It was never going to be an easy match, but Superstar played superbly, scoring two goals. He had a chance to score a hat-trick but unfortunately reserve goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown was superb for Portsmouth in saving the shot. Superstar will still be happy after his double, however.

Points Earned: 34

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger

26/07/07: Hucknall vs Eastleigh (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 4-1 Eastleigh

Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (60, 65, 70, 90)
Eastleigh: Steve Watts (26)

Player Watch: With Brendon Hedger holding an 11-point lead at the top of the table before this round, there was nothing really to separate the top group of strikers. Hedger would've been feeling the pressure - but he delivered, nailing a stunning four goals off his own boot against Eastleigh. Eastleigh were leading 1-0 at halftime, but Hedger finally found his game late in the match, scoring all four of his goals in the last 30 minutes of gameplay. A superb effort from Hedger and now he will be very tough to catch. What a stunning performance from the lad.

Points Earned: 84

Striker #3 - Troy Lerana

27/07/07: Hucknall vs Lewes (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 2-0 Lewes

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (37), Troy Lerana (45)
Lewes:

Player Watch: Hucknall picked up a comfortable victory but Lerana only managed to score one goal in his team's victory over Lewes. Despite just scoring one goal, Lerana was otherwise superb, creating the first goal for Bacon with an assist and earning a man of the match. With Lerana in equal second, however, he would have liked a big game to shake up the top, but he would have to take a goal for his efforts. Still - as they say, it's better than nothing.

Points Earned: 29

Striker #4 - Shantanu Ambekar

24/07/07: Hucknall vs St. Albans (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 4-2 St. Albans

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (13), Shantanu Ambekar (45), Marcel Mckie own goal (59), Steve Akers (87)
St. Albans: Paul Bruce (pen 9), Hector Mackie (21)

Player Watch: Despite a comfortable 4-2 victory to Hucknall, Ambekar managed just one goal in his side's victory. Wazza played solidly before being subbed in the 78th minute. A key point to note is that fellow striker Danny Bacon received an injury which should put him out for a while, allowing Ambekar to possibly take a sole striker role depending on what the assistant manager feels is right. Ambekar performed solidly without being brilliant in his side's victory. His goal came from a long-ranged free-kick that curved beautifully around the wall.

Points Earned: 17

Striker #5 - Avroneel Biswas

23/07/07: Hucknall vs Glentoran
Final Score: Hucknall 1-2 Glentoran

Hucknall: Avroneel Biswas (35)
Glentoran: Robbie Spence (43), Ryan Hazley (45)

Player Watch: Hucknall were dominated by minnows Glentoran and in the end they were lucky to score at all. Glentoran dominated the game, having 60% possession and 16 shots, but Biswas still gave a fair account of himself, as the Prince scored a neat consolation goal for Hucknall. It was a poor day on a whole though for Hucknall, as their opponents looked the better team by far. Biswas was solid with a rating of 8.

Points Earned: 14

Striker #6 - William Ako

25/07/07: Hucknall vs Peterborough
Final Score: Hucknall 3-4 Peterborough

Hucknall: William Ako (18), Gary Sucharewycz (21), Matt Thorpe (90)
Peterborough: George Boyd (5, 11), Dean Keates (17), Tom Williams (56)

Player Watch: With Hucknall 3-0 down after just 17 minutes against League Two side Peterborough, all hope seemed lost. However, a quick goal from Wako Ako helped them back up into the match. They fell short 4-3 in the end, but it was a spirited showing. Ako was good, scoring a goal and looking dangerous on the field. It wasn't a terrible result from Hucknall, considering the standard of their opposition.

Points Earned: 14

Striker #7 - Stuart Cullington

25/07/07: Hucknall vs AFC Wimbledon
Final Score: Hucknall 1-3 AFC Wimbledon

Hucknall: Gary Ricketts (16)
AFC Wimbledon: Danny Webb (61), Tommy Hutchings (73), Stephen Goddard (83)

Player Watch: Culli failed to get on the scoresheet but provided a handy assist for Ricketts. It was not a day to remember for Hucknall, though, as they were run over by Wimbledon in a fast-flowing affair. Wimbledon in the end came back from an early 1-0 deficit to finish 3-1 victors. Cullington needs points fast, to improve his poor position early.
