Battle of the Strikers (NOT CONTINUED)

Bloody hell, I'm gash. Sure you're not playing me CB?

As long as Culli's ma bitch, then it's cool. I'm a midfieder anyways.

I hope you are all still interested in the competition.. keep the discussion up. ;)

Game 5 - Five from an Unlikely Star

The fifth game of the competition had it all - including the first ever haul of five goals. However, it proved to be from an unlikely striker - adding to the intensity of the competition.

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

30/07/07: Hucknall vs Lewes (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 6-3 Lewes

Hucknall: Blake Superstar (24, 45, pen 57, 68, 73), Bobby Wilson (76)
Lewes: Paul Booth (10, 19), Jean-Michel Sigere (38)

Player Watch: The first ever bag of 5 goals came from an unlikely suspect, with the former last placed Blake Superstar having an unbelievable day out to collect 5 goals against Lewes. Superstar was simply brilliant, dominating against a mild Lewes as he put their defence to the sword. The win was even more inspirational after Hucknall trailed Lewes 1-3 early in the match before Superstar broke free and dominated. Superstar scored a staggering 114 points for this match - what an effort from a man who was once in last place.

Points Earned: 114

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger

29/07/07: Hucknall vs Billericay (friendly)
Final Score: Hucknall 7-2 Billericay

Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (5, pen 43, 47, 58), Danny Bacon (20, 31), Russell Cooke (73)
Billericay: Craig Prout (80), Sam Warner (90)

Player Watch: Hedger's form was now starting to borderline on incredible now after he scored another bag of four goals - making his tally now 15 goals from just 5 games, an incredible effort from the Free Kick Master. Billericay were powerless as Hucknall dominated - going from a 4-0 halftime lead, to a 7-2 finish. Hedger also contributed with an assist, to cap off his brilliant performance. Surely some other teams must be starting to take notice of this 17-year old who has knocked in 15 goals in just 5 friendlies. Will anybody be able to catch Hedger on the leaderboard?

Points Earned: 86

Striker #3 - Troy Lerana

30/07/07: Carshalton vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Carshalton 2-2 Hucknall

Carshalton: Nicholas Sherriff (67), Phil Ruggles (71)
Hucknall: Troy Lerana (30), Danny Bacon (58)

Player Watch: Again Lerana was solid without being brilliant but he would've been disappointed after his team slipped from 2-0 up midway through the second half to finish off with a draw against Carshalton after they fired back quickly with two goals. Lerana contributed with an early goal and again earned Man of the Match honours, thanks to a very solid game through the midfield.

Points Earned: 24

Striker #4 - Shantanu Ambekar

27/07/07: Gloucester vs Hucknall (friendly)
Final Score: Gloucester 5-5 Hucknall

Gloucester: Lee Smith (22), Sean Smith (26), David Godley (30), Matt Rose (48, 89)
Hucknall: Shantanu Ambekar (5, 33), Bobby Wilson (40), Gary Ricketts (46), Danny Mayman (56)

Player Watch: Ambekar found some form as he chipped in with 2 goals in his team's 5-5 draw with Gloucester. With the goals flowing freely at either end, Ambekar might be disappointed he didn't push on for the hat-trick but he will be pleased by his efforts. Ambekar scored Hucknall's first two goals but didn't contribute after that. He received a player rating of 8, but wasn't good enough to earn Man of the Match.

Points Earned: 24

Striker #5 - Avroneel Biswas

27/07/07: Northwood vs Hucknall
Final Score: Northwood 0-3 Hucknall

Northwood:
Hucknall: Avroneel Biswas (11, 17), Danny Bacon (40)

Player Watch: After Hucknall's loss in the round before, Biswas was keen to get his side back on the winning list and did so with a superb performance, scoring a double as well as claiming Man of the Match awards for his great attack and dedication on the ball. It seemed Biswas had brought his A-game as he carved up the Northwood defence early with two sizzling strikes. Biswas finished the game with 6 shots, more than Northwood's entire team had taken.

Points Earned: 38

Striker #6 - William Ako

28/07/07: Hucknall vs Whitby
Final Score: Hucknall 3-1 Whitby

Hucknall: William Ako (44, 60), Danny Bacon (70)
Whitby: Lee Nogan (48)

Player Watch: Ako looked calm and composed as he slotted in two more goals to raise his confidence further after his team dominated an average Whitby, winning 3-1. Wako was easily the best player, scoring two goals and earning man of the match with a rating of 9. The top strikers are currently a fair way ahead of Ako, but with a few big rounds he could really gain some ground.

Points Earned: 40

Striker #7 - Stuart Cullington

25/07/07: Hucknall vs AFC Wimbledon
Final Score: Hucknall 1-3 AFC Wimbledon

Hucknall: Gary Ricketts (16)
AFC Wimbledon: Danny Webb (61), Tommy Hutchings (73), Stephen Goddard (83)

Player Watch: Culli failed to get on the scoresheet but provided a handy assist for Ricketts. It was not a day to remember for Hucknall, though, as they were run over by Wimbledon in a fast-flowing affair. Wimbledon in the end came back from an early 1-0 deficit to finish 3-1 victors. Cullington needs points fast, to improve his poor position early.

lol, before when you posted your stats, i was thinking, "we already know you're not trying to cheat otherwise you would have scored a lot more goals and if anything we were thinking you had bad stats" and after that it would have made me think whether you were cheating.

See.. I actually scored the five goals in one match before I posted that picture. I just wanted to post it to remove all doubts.. I don't want people to think I'm cheating. I personally would never cheat because it would remove all fun.. that's why I just wanted to confirm my stats, so you can all see them.

ok then, i see what you mean. and another question. is that the last round you've done or is there another round done but you'll post it up whenever.

Hedger, why on earth would I want to make your player better?

I mean, come on, are you serious about me posting your player's stats? You better not be... :o

Oh dear, I just realised I've made a terrible mistake.

I accidentally posted the same round for Stuart Cullington twice - the one where he earns 10 points against AFC Wimbledon, whilst I posted every other person's two rounds. Seeing as that would be a bit unfair, here is his REAL fifth round.

Just discard his game against Wimbledon in the last post.

I will update the scoreboard when I do the sixth round, which will not be far away.

Striker #7 - Stuart Cullington

28/07/07: Lancaster City vs Hucknall
Final Score: Lancaster City 2-5 Hucknall

Lancaster City: Carl Waters (28), Mark Jackson (57)
Hucknall: Stuart Cullington (6, pen 16, 39), Peter Knox (80, 90)

Player Watch: After a poor round last time in which Culli failed to score, it seemed that he was a completely new player this week. Stuart Cullington dominated the pitch, scoring his hat-trick in the first half alone to claim MOTM honours after an inspirational performance. His team benefited from his superb performance, finishing 5-2 winners over minnows Lancaster City. It definitely was a handy victory though, and a superb game from Culli himself.
