Battle of the Strikers (NOT CONTINUED)

I recall in FM08, there was an exploit where if you set all the settings from a corner kick out (like set the corner to 6 yard box) and then have someone with really good heading run in to the 6 yard box you could score pretty much once every second corner. I thought that was what you had in mind.. :p

If you don't use any corner exploits, I'll let you change the other options for 5 points each. ;)

Here's your answer, Hedger.

Game 7 - The Season Begins and Injury Hits

Striker #1 - Blake Superstar

11/08/07 - Barrow vs Hucknall
Final Score: Barrow 4-5 Hucknall

Barrow: Mark Boyd (12), Dave Swarbrick (34), Jason Walker (41, 53)
Hucknall: Blake Superstar (1, 15, 23, 51, 60)

Player Watch: It seemed Blake Superstar was going to have a good game even before he scored a goal in just 14 seconds of play. Words can't even describe this sudden turn-around in form that Superstar has had - from when he went to last place to second after scoring 8 goals in 2 games. Now, in his first ever league game, what an impact has the young star had. He is still the only player to score five goals in a match, but now he has done it twice. Blake Superstar really is now proving to be a superstar. He earns additional points for scoring on his league debut.

Points Earned: 124

Striker #2 - Brendon Hedger

11/08/07 - Vauxhall vs Hucknall
Final Score: Vauxhall 1-6 Hucknall

Vauxhall: Paul Taylor (78)
Hucknall: Brendon Hedger (pen 3, 55, 56), Gary Ricketts (12, 27), Mick Galloway (81)

Player Watch: Brendon Hedger was again superb, nailing a hat-trick as his team demolished minnows Vauxhall. Vauxhall were never in the game, thanks to Hedger's excellent effort. It remains to be seen if anybody can indeed catch Hedger, as he dominates opposition every round. Does he want to move up into the bigger leagues, or is he content earning points in the lower leagues? There is 30 points to be earned for every league to move up - if Hedger moves to the Premier League, he will earn 150 points. Interesting..

Points Earned: 75

Striker #3 - Troy Lerana

11/08/07 - Boston Utd. vs Hucknall
Final Score: Boston Utd. 1-4 Hucknall

Boston: Liam Green (pen 55)
Hucknall: Danny Bacon (26), Mick Galloway (57), Troy Lerana (63), Gary Sucharewyz (90)

Player Watch: Legend Lerana was again solid without being brilliant, after scoring just 1 goal in his side's 4-1 victory over Boston Utd. Lerana contributed solidly, and scored a goal to get on the scoresheet, but didn't provide an assist, and the Man of the Match award instead went to Mick Galloway. Lerana's goal came from a nice effort around the goalkeeper, but surely he must be disappointed he didn't score more. However, considering Boston Utd had been relegated from the league above last season, it was a good effort for Hucknall to win 4-1.

Points Earned: 27

Striker #4 - Shantanu Ambekar

11/08/07 - Hucknall vs Workington
Final Score: Hucknall 6-2 Workington

Hucknall: Shantanu Ambekar (4, 16, 17, 19, 37), Bobby Wilson (70)
Boston: Craig Johnston (15), Jonny Wright (61)

Player Watch: After scoring five goals in just 37 minutes, it seemed that Ambekar could go on to score 10 and demolish the competition. However, despite Ambekar's five goal effort, there was one terrible piece of news for Ambekar. Shantanu had played brilliantly until the very end of the match. He had a rating of 10 and was easily Man of the Match, however in the 87th minute disaster struck. Shantanu Ambekar went up for the ball, fighting courageously, but he fell over and landed on his hip in a very uncomfortable angle. Further review showed that Ambekar would be out for a staggering 2-3 months even with specialist treatment. This is terrible news for Ambekar, although he might have to be tempted by a shop option coming in the future to heal injuries...

Points Earned: 124

Striker #5 - Avroneel Biswas

11/08/07 - Hucknall vs Hinckley
Final Score: Hucknall 0-1 Hinckley

Hucknall:
Hinckley: Leon Jackson (47)

Player Watch: It was a very disappointed effort for the Prince, Avroneel Biswas. He scored one goal in the match, however it was disallowed through an offside ruling, and in the end it was Hinckley stealing a 1-0 victory over Hucknall, as Hucknall got off to a poor start in the league. Biswas was solid with a rating of 7, but he could've done better and without scoring, he now finds himself dropping down the table. Biswas has been quiet in the last few rounds - he definitely needs a big haul to get his confidence back up.

Points Earned: 8

Striker #6 - William Ako

11/08/07 - Workington vs Hucknall
Final Score: Workington 5-3 Hucknall

Workington: Matthew Berkeley (4, 31, 40, 75), Jonny Wright (34)
Hucknall: William Ako (24, 42, 71)

Player Watch: There was one haul of four scored in the match, but instead it was Matthew Berkeley from Workington earning it after he single-handedly defeated a poor Hucknall who were led by Ako. Wako Ako fought valiantly the entire match and scored a very nice hat-trick to earn him some points, but in the end Berkeley's haul was enough to get Workington over the line. Still, William Ako will be pleased with his hat-trick for sure, and despite his team losing, it was a quality effort from the 17-year old striker.

Points Earned: 55

Striker #7 - Stuart Cullington

11/08/07 - Hucknall vs Workington
Final Score: Hucknall 4-1 Workington

Hucknall: Danny Bacon (9, 54), Stuart Cullington (52, pen 90)
Workington: Matthew Berkeley (88)

Player Watch: Bottom placed Stuart Cullington finally found some form, scoring a double against Workington to earn a Man of the Match effort as his team ran out 4-1 victors. Culli was finding it tough to get on the scoresheet and was sitting in last place before this round, but perhaps things might've changed now thanks to a Man of the Match effort. Culli finished superbly, and nailed a late penalty to make it two goals. In an almost identical match, William Ako's Hucknall went down 5-3 to Workington, so that is a positive sign for Culli.

The Strikers Tabloid

Shantanu Ambekar was today ruled out with a hip injury for two to three months, even with a specialist involved. This is a big blow for the striker, especially after he scored an incredible haul of five in his side's victory over Workington. The news came harshly to the fans who had started a cult club over Wazza after he found the net consistently in the friendlies.

Thankfully, the strikers shop has included a new item - the Heal Injury potion, but it comes at a cost - 6 points per day to heal. So, if the injury lasts for 60 days, that will cost 360 points just to heal the person. It is costly, but is it worth it?

In other news, Blake Superstar continued his surprising recent run of form after nailing five goals, to make his tally now 13 goals from his last 3 games. Brendon Hedger might have to seriously start watching out now, although he will retain top spot after scoring yet another hat-trick for his team.

I had no idea such exploits existed haha. I was just gonna send you a tactic I've downloaded which works well for me, and you can take points off accordingly. That okay?

ok, a few questions about this. Firstly what are the highest stats you can have and if so, how will i compare to a good player in the premier league and what chances would i have of transfering to the premier league or championship

I can't tell you that, or else it would ruin the game.. the highest stats are obviously 20 in each skill.

well to add me to the transfer market would mean i lost my top spot and be in third 1 point behind Shantana. I'll wait a bit longer. how much longer before the transfer season ends.

I have no idea Hedger.. it's sometime soon, anyway, and then the next one starts at 1 January..

Possible update tonight, I'm feeling lazy but I'll see what I can do.

I'm slipping down the order even though I'm scoring more goals. I need to run the rest of ya over.

I'm not sure if Shantanu Rooney or World Champions are even reading this anymore, they haven't posted at all, and even despite Shantanu's player getting an injury he hasn't done anything about it.

Should I cut them out of the competition? What do you all think.

blake added 2 Minutes and 55 Seconds later...

Edit: Actually, World Champions has been posting a little bit. Shantanu hasn't however.

If Shantanu doesn't post soon he will be cut from the competition. I'm not doing it for him if he doesn't even read it or post.

Just PM him and get him to start paying attention to the story :p If he still doesnt i guess just cut him out.

He is in hospital :p as he is injured

WC, I thought you were serious at first. Then, I realised. :p

Anyway, here is an additional update from the Strikers store. :D

The BATTLE of the STRIKERS store returns with one more interesting proposal in an attempt to get players moving on upwards. The player that finishes in the highest league at the end of the domestic season will win a large bonus rumoured to be in the area of 150-200 points. If all players are in the same league, the team with the most points will win. This still means that even if someone is playing in the Blue Square Premier, and their team gets relegated, compared to everybody else in the Blue Square North, and their team wins, the person in the Blue Square Premier will still pick up the points bonus.

SUPERphysio has also made his way into the Strikers competition. SUPERphysio cannot heal injuries, however, for the cost of just 30 points, he can tell you exactly how long the injury will last for. This could be crucial when spending points to heal injuries. If you request to heal what looks like a 2 month injury, when it is actually only 30 days like SUPERphysio can tell you, you will spend far more. SUPERphysio is the best way to find out how long you will be injured for.

That's all for now. Will you be tempted by the league finish bonus, or SUPERphysio?
