1338: Everton start off the second half here at Goodison. Portsmouth
looked the better side in the first 45, but it's still anyone's game. Lets see
how the second 45 pans out.

1347: Just like at the end of the first half, it's gone a bit quiet. No
clear cut chances for either side. It may well take something special to break
the deadlock.

1351: Talking of needing something special, James Vaughan almost did
just that. Neville drilled the ball into Vaughan's feet on the edge of the area,
only for Matip to force him wide. On the corner of the area Vaughan turned
and floated a brilliant shot destined for the top corner, only for David James
to tip it over the bar. Almost a superb goal from Vaughan.

subsn5.gif
1352: A double substitution by Dave Jones, bringing on his big-guns. Niko
Kranjcar and John Utaka replace Sebasti?n Leto and Bogdan Stancu. Can one
of these two spark the game into life?

goalcd2.png
1354: GOAL Everton 0-1 Portsmouth
Finally, we have a breakthrough here at Goodison, and it's gone to the away
team. It' John Utaka, who's only been on the pitch for less than two
minutes. Kranjcar was also involved in the move, setting up Defoe with a
through ball. Just as it looked like Defoe would shoot himself he slid it to the
unmarked Utaka, who's low shot beat Howard and nestled into the bottom
corner. Dave Jones has had a masterstroke here at Goodison.

subsn5.gif
1355: Jones has made his final substitute of the game. Papa Bouba Diop drops
into midfield as Yoann Gouffran comes off.

1357: "Dave Jones is a legend! He's going to do wonders for
Portsmouth this season. Cardiff should have never let him go"
Gary_787 on 606

1404: David James has somehow managed to keep Andy Johnson at
bay. A fantastic double save, first from a close range header and then
another from the rebound. James was superb on Sunday and is continuing
that form here today. Maybe Everton's best chance has gone.

subsn5.gif
1408: David Moyes makes a double substitution. Markus Rosenberg and new
signing Ibrahim Afellay come on for Andy Johnson and Franco Semioli.

subsn5.gif
1413: Everton have used all three subs now, Yakubu replaces Mikel Arteta.
Maybe a last throw of the dice from Moyes.

1413: Fabio Aur?lio almost doubles Portsmouth's lead with a fine left
footed free kick. Howard scrambled across the goal line to keep it out, but
Everton need to do something quick.

1419: Portsmouth are keeping the ball brilliantly at the moment. I just
can't see Everton getting anything from this game. There are four minutes
remaining.

1427: FULL TIME Everton 0-1 Portsmouth
It's all over. Portsmouth have deserved their victory here today. David James
was superb in goal, and Dave Jones' substitutes did the trick in the second
half. Portsmouth look a very strong side this season, and they may well be a
surprise package.

Up next we have another six games kicking-off at 3 o'clock, and then Fulham
take on Arsenal at 1715.

Well deserved win for Pompey and not surprised with the team they have. A major threat for top 4 this season. Well. Done treva :clap

Deserved win for Portsmouth. Great stuff from Dave Jones. His substitutions won the game. Kranjcar and Utaka are great players. Gary_787 speaks wise words, Cardiff should never have let him go.

Nice win for Pompey there! :D C'mon Chelsea! :D Lets beat Blackburn! :)

I had expected Pompey to do it in the second half and they did, which means I am great.

As is Alan Green, who also predicted a 1-0 win (I did actually do that before I played the match)!

Thanks for all the comments guys. Doubt there will be an update tonight, but you never know :)

1500: Our second set of matches kick-off. The main focus will be on
Old Trafford where Manchester United take on Newcastle United, but there
are plenty of other interesting games as well.

goalcd2.png
1501: GOAL Man United 1-0 Newcastle
Well I said the main focus will be on Old Trafford, and that's where we have
got our first goal. Wayne Rooney was played in by Michael Carrick and
calmly placed the ball to Shay Given's left. United take the lead after 42
seconds in the big game this afternoon.

goalcd2.png
1507: GOAL Cardiff 0-1 Birmingham
Birmingham have taken the lead at St. David Stadium in Cardiff. It's Salvador
Cabanas
with the goal. It came with an air of fortune though,
his right footed shot from the edge of the area clipping Glenn Loovens' heel
and deflecting past Al-Habsi in the Cardiff goal.

goalcd2.png
1509: GOAL Blackburn 0-1 Chelsea
We have our 3rd goal inside ten minutes this afternoon, Didier Drogba
the man to score for Chelsea. A superb run from Florent Malouda down the
left wing opened up the Blackburn defence before sliding the ball back to
Drogba who fired it into the back of the net.

injuryed0.gif
1509: Alexey Berezutskiy has gone off early at Villa Park. Not sure what the problem
is, but he is replaced by Villa captain Gareth Barry.

goalcd2.png
1512: GOAL Cardiff 0-2 Birmingham
Birmingham have doubled their lead in only the 12th minute with a fine goal
from David Jones. Unlike their first goal, there was no air of fortune
about this one, Jones smashing a lose ball into the roof of the net from the
corner of the box.

goalcd2.png
1512: GOAL Man United 2-0 Newcastle
Man United also double their lead in the 12th minute. This time it's Ryan Giggs
who finds the back of the net. A good one-two with Rooney gave
him room behind the defence to score from 12 yards. United have started
how they wish to continue at Old Trafford.

goalcd2.png
1517: GOAL Aston Villa 1-0 Ipswich
New signing, Sylvain Wiltord, has scored on debut for Villa against
Ipswich. Wiltord managed to shrug off the challenge of David Wheater,
before curling the ball past Neil Alexander and into the net off the inside of
the post.

injuryed0.gif
1518: There's a forced substitution for Birmingham as Cory Gibbs hobbles off. Sone
Aluko is his replacement.

goalcd2.png
1523: GOAL Man United 3-0 Newcastle
United have made it 3-0 against a shell shocked Newcastle. Wayne Rooney
grabs his second of the game, making the most of a slip at the back.
This game is almost over after just 23 minutes. Newcastle need a reply, fast.

Didier Drogba la-la-la! :D Great presentation Trev!:D

injuryed0.gif
1524: West Ham have had to make a substitution with Julien Faubert taking a
knock. Daniel Gabbidon comes on at the back.

injuryed0.gif
1527: There's injuries left, right and centre at the moment. The second injury of
the game at Villa Park see Jan Durica walk off with a grimace on his face. The
man to replace him is Dan Harding.

injuryed0.gif
1528: And there's another one gone. This one looks quite serious, with Dorian
Dervite of Tottenham being stretchered off. He seems to have landed badly
on his left ankle. Nedum Onuoha acknowledges Dervite as he comes on.

goalcd2.png
1530: GOAL Man United 3-1 Newcastle
Newcastle have pulled one back at Old Trafford. A superb Newcastle move
was finished by Michael Owen who was simply in the right place at the
right time. Owen's tap-in gives Newcastle some hope after half an hour.

goalcd2.png
1531: GOAL Tottenham 1-0 Wolves
The deadlock is broken at White Hart Lane thanks to a debut goal for
American striker Eddie Johnson. A superb chip over the Wolves
defence from Didier Zakora played in Johnson who drilled the ball through Joe
Murphy's legs to put them one-up.

goalcd2.png
1533: GOAL Cardiff 1-2 Birmingham
Cardiff strike back at home to Birmingham. Ex-Celtic player, Derek Riordan,
scores in his first game for his new club. Riordan picked the ball up on
the half way line after a Birmingham corner and used his pace to beat Armand
Traoré before coolly slotting it past Mark Schwarzer.

1533: Penalty to Chelsea

goalcd2.png
1534: GOAL Blackburn 0-2 Chelsea
Brett Emerton brought down Didier Drogba inside the area. The African
star made a bit of a meal out of it but there was definite contact. Drogba got
up to take it himself and sent Brad Friedel the wrong way to make it 2-0.

goalcd2.png
1540: GOAL West Ham 0-1 Man City
Man City take the lead at Upton Park thanks to Michele Paolucci. A
fine cross from Micah Richards found Paolucci at the back post, who headed
it into the ground and up into the roof of the net. We now have goals in all of
our games.

goalcd2.png
1542: GOAL West Ham 0-2 Man City
City have hit two goals in the space of two minutes to leave West Ham in
trouble just before half time. This time it's débutante Silvano Raggio
Garibaldi
who found the net with a scorcher from 20 yards. The ball fell to
him after a corner and through a crowded penalty area he found the back of
the net.

1550: We are now half way through our afternoon matches, but there
is still plenty more action to come after the half time break.

injuryed0.gif
1606: Jason Roberts has gone down after a challenge from Ashley Cole at
Ewood park. Cole caught his right shin and has picked up a yellow card.
Roberts has to come off and is replaced by Morten Gamst Pedersen.

goalcd2.png
1609: GOAL Aston Villa 2-0 Ipswich
Aston Villa make it 2-0 at home to Ipswich, and guess who has got the goal.
It's that man Sylvain Wiltord to make it two goals on debut. A
fantastic volley from Barry's pass found the top corner. A fine goal from the
French striker.

injuryed0.gif
1610: Blackburn have to make their second forced sub inside five minutes of
the first half. Zurab Khizanishvili got caught in a 50/50 challenge with Frank
Lampard. Ryan Nelsen gives him a high-five before charging onto the pitch.

redcardkt8.png
1614: RED CARD
Well we have seen some fine performances on debut, but not for Steven
Cherundolo. He has picked up his second yellow card for a poor tackle on
Michael Kightly. Birmingham will have to try and hold onto their lead with still
over half an hour left to play.

goalcd2.png
1619: GOAL Tottenham 1-1 Wolves
Newly promoted Wolves have pulled level at White Hart Lane. Stephen
Elliott
sends the home fans into silence by scoring after Mark Davies' shot
hit the post. Wolves have been played off the park today but can they grab
a win?

goalcd2.png
1621: GOAL Tottenham 2-1 Wolves
It didn't last long and Tottenham are back in the lead. Tom Huddlestone's low
cross found a sliding G?nero Zeefuik at the front post. It's the Dutch
youngster's first goal for Tottenham in just his second appearance.

injuryed0.gif
1623: Aston Villa lose another man to injury and they will have to play the last
30 minutes with 10 men as they have used all of their subs. Den?lson was
caught by Tommy Miller in the face and has cut his forehead quite badly. Villa
are in the drivers seat but Ipswich have a chance to turn things around.

goalcd2.png
1627: GOAL Aston Villa 3-0 Ipswich
Going down to 10 men has only spurred Villa on even more and they have
grabbed another. Sylvain Wiltord has taken it past three Ipswich
defenders before curling his left footed shot round the keeper to secure a
hat-trick on debut. A brilliant performance from the Frenchman. This game is
all but over now.

redcardkt8.png
1628: RED CARD
Anton Ferdinand has to go, to his disgust. He lunged into a tackle with his
studs showing but he did win the ball. Phil Dowd had no hesitation to send
him off and now West Ham have an uphill task to get something from this
game.

Well its getting quite interesting first day of the new season. Man red cards and injuries and many goals. Very entertaining indeed.

1629: GOAL Blackburn 1-2 Chelsea
Blackburn still have hope as they cut the deficit to just one goal. It's a bit of
a freak goal as Maceo Righters' cross curled over Petr Cech before
hitting the inside of the post and crossing the line. Blackburn won't care,
they're back in it.

1644: Well it's gone very quiet around the grounds at the moment. No
major incidents to talk about in any of our six games. Lets hope for some late
drama as we near the last ten minutes.
