Best 5 Batsmen ever

top 5 I've seen play:

V. Richards
S. Gavaskar
B. Lara
S. Tendulkar
S. Waugh

of all time imo:

D. Bradman
G. Sobers
V. Richards
S. Tendulkar
B. Lara

best 5 i've seen:
Sachin Tendulkar - needs no introduction
B. Lara --- same as above(no one can even come close to the first two)
S Waugh
Imzi (under-rated but very good player)
Kallis/Dravid (technique, runs and consistency..its Dravid)

Top 5 ever:
Bradman
Sachin (interms of runs, consistency, burden he carries and techniques)
Sir Viv richards (sachin and viv are very close, Viv is more brutal/aggressive but sachin can be aggressive whenever he wants to be!)
Lara (excellent and everything about him)
Sunny, Haynes, Sobers are close for the 5th spot.

Don Bradman
Gary Sobers
Viv Richards
Brian Lara(Or Steve Waugh)
Sachin Tendulkar

i am tempted to add langer to my top 5 present day batsmen, he's an amazing opener like sehwag. But Langer has been consistent for 4 odd years now.

Not a nice idea to compare players this way . It should have been from a period specified cos cricket has changed over the years and most of us havent seen the players of the past .They mi8 be gr8 but we havent seen their greatness .

Also Ganguly,Anwar ,Jayasrya will make it the list if its for ODI but they stand no chance for tests .So it wont be fair .

My post 1980 team

TESTS
Tendulkar
Dravid
Waugh
Lara
Border

ODI
Tendulkar
Ganguly
Anwar
Jayasurya
Inzamam

Among current players, or players whom I have seen play,

Brian Lara
Sachin Tendulkar
Graham Thorpe
Ricky Ponting
Jacques Kallis

on a very passionate note:
1) Sachin Tendulkar (when he made his debut)
2) Sachin Tendulkar ( at 20)
3) Sachin Tendulkar (at 25 - remember Sharjah)
4) Sachin Tendulkar (at 30 - remember Headingley)
5) Sachin Tendulkar (at 32)
Not in any order except that the last entry remains last in the list.

But on a more generally acceptable note:
1) Sachin Tendulkar
2) Sir Donald Bradman
3) Sir Viv Richards
4) Brian Lara
5) Rahul Dravid

in that order. Though position no. 4 and 5 are interchangeable and also under serious contention by Trumper, Inzamam and Sunny. To name those five just by going through the archives and comparing stats is not cricket as it is played in India. We need to know, who mattered the most.
