Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

I was halfway through penning Khawaja in until the second line. Could have been room for both if Ponting or Hussey hadn't performed, but what can you do?

I think Khawaja was one season too early, I think getting this chance at test level will do him well and now he can go back to first class cricket and learn a bit.

He's a good bowler and he's ready: Indians need Ojha, says Ganguly

Does Ganguly know India is playing Australia and not KP. Also did he get brainwashed by the old Aussie selectors who were so eager for a left arm spinner.

Dont know what Ganguly has got against Ashwin in recent times. Even in the 2nd innings at Sydney when Ashwin was scoring so well, Ganguly in the commentary box repeatedly brought up Ashwin's so-called short ball weakness (when in fact Ashwin looked atleast 5x better against the short ball than what Ganguly had looked against it when he started playing for India) and was almost egging Aussie fast bowlers to unsettle Ashwin with the short ball. It seemed like he didn't want Ashwin to score those runs that he did.

Two test matches in Australia and Ganguly immediately wants Ashwin out of the next test. And when you got to think of bringing in a 4th pacer, this guy wants to replace a spinner with another spinner. Ashwin needs to be properly backed and given chances to do well. His career has had a fantastic start with 22 wickets in 3 tests. We knew that spinners wont find too much purchase in Australian wickets and so putting the first two tests bowling performance against Ashwin is not fair. Ashwin looks the brighter future than Ojha. He is a good bat too which helps. When his batting has done well at a time when most others are failing, we need to keep Ashwin.

Ashwin is in the team for Bowling, anything which he gets from bat is bonus.
To be frank, ashwin has just bowl below par till now in the series. Many experts and fans Criticize Harbhajan for not taking wickets in Overseas condition and see Ashwin has not done anything better than Harbhajan till now in Overseas test matches. (avg of 50-60 +)
in all 3 inninings fast bowlers have made early breakthrough and but lack of support from Ashwin has let Australians to get away even after losing 3 wickets for 50-60. Forget about taking wickets, he is licking runs at 3.5-4 rpo. I know conditions are not suitable for spin, but in past we won test matches in this country by playing 3-4 spinner in a team.

When Ganguly was captain he himself didn't played a Left arm spinner Murali Karthik as he wanted Harbhajan in the side. Ganguly is huge supporter of Harbhajan and he will not miss a chance to criticize Ashwin.

Ojha has made his name from FC matches, unlike Ashwin who came from t20. In T20 you can bowl flatter Trajectory but in Test matches if you start doing this then its very hard to take wickets. A left arm spinner is a attacking option if he is accurate. Australia is known for producing Leg spinner, similarly india is know for producing some great left arm spinner. (Bedi, Mahinder singh and few more) Ojha has all quality to become a great left arm spinner.

I am 100% sure ojha would have got chance ahead of Ashwin in next test two matches if Indian Top 7 would have batted according to their averages.
BTW, best bowling records in Australia by an Indian finger spinner is hold by a Left arm spin bowler.

for Perth Test Match indian should bring in Rohit for Kohli and Mithun for Ashwin (if there is too much grass on the wicket).

Didn't realize that Pattinson was injured. First it was Cummins, now Pattinson. Forget the Argus review, Aussies need to get some orthotics people in there.

And Siddle gave some nonsense reply to Zaheer. These guys are fighting it out there like a bunch of silly schoolboys. Zaheer should have kept quiet, and let the ball do the talking. Giving it back on the field is the best medicine, and the Aussies have already tasted that medicine before. This is a silly attempt to inject some life into the series which is threatening to die off due to India's insipid performance.

Completely agree with, Sai. Zaheer needs to understand that replying back to the Australian players wont too any good. Aussies are already 2 up in the series and they will obviously say whatever they want, they are winning and they deserve the victories because they have played well and more importantly they have played much better than we have. Zaheer is capable of doing better than he is currently doing. I know he has immense pressure on him to take wickets and the bowlers from other end aren't helping but then he is the most senior bowler in the team and their are a lot of expectations from him. In this situation, Dhoni needs to take some brave decisions and maybe give Aaron a chance (I guess he is in the squad)?

Nope Aaron is not in the squad

Aaron is not available. He is injured and out of the series. All that we have in the bench are Mithun and Vinay Kumar. So right now, dropping a fast bowler for another is impossible (unless due to an injury, which I pray doesnt happen)

One thing that India needs to try is make Sehwag bat at number 5 or 6 and let Rahane open the innings, Sehwag has had a lot of problems in swinging conditions as an opener, people are critisicing him for going for too many shots, but thats how he has achieved success, he has always had an aggressive approach, not Sehwag, but the management is to be blamed here for not taking any step despite of Sehwag not being very successful as an opener outside the subcontinent, he can be more consistent if he bats down the order, he is being wasted in the top order.

Rahane has a fantastic First Class record and also did well in the emerging players tournament in Australia, he is technically very sound, we need a solid top order to be successful overseas, Dravid and Sachin at 3 and 4 are doing a good job, although Dravid didn't bat well in his last 2 or 3 innings but has been very consistent overall, getting Sehwag out of the top 4 can be good both for the team and Sehwag.

And all these talks that the seniors should retire are wrong, they are doing a pretty decent job and we do not have players who can easily replace them, we are still not able to find a proper replacement for Ganguly, it will be a very huge void to fill if Sachin, Dravid and Laxman retire, I think the only one who is under pressure is Laxman, even if he does well in the remaining matches, he should improve his level of fitness and make sure that he stays more consistent.

Sehwag eventually has to move into the middle order because I dont see a long term future for him if he continues to open outside the subcontinent. But moving him immediately for Perth and throwing Rahane into his debut test and that too at opening and that too at a place like Perth is fraught with heavy danger.

Ashwin deserves to be in the team, its really stupid that Ganguly is criticising him after just 1 bad match, Ashwin's bowling is anyways good enough, but his batting is also a huge plus for the team because we need someone at number 8 to contribute with the bat whenever the team needs a few vital runs, especially overseas, where we have struggled to post big totals.

If at all we drop Ashwin, it should be because we need a fourth pacer for WACA. Replacing him with Ojha should not be the option

Think that shows all you need to know, 4 pacemen should hit the favourite for us. And going by our trend we should know by tomorrow.
