Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

I think it's probably a better pitch than that too, just that India needed to have bowlers who could hit a length pretty hard once the ball got soft. When Yadav came back, Doolan missed him 3 times in a row. Without Sharma they basically had to waste 75% of their overs.

nothing has happened to Ishant according to cricinfo.

An Indian team official explained that Ishant had only planned to deliver six overs for the day, and when his ankle strapping came loose before it was concluded, he felt no need to return. Ishant was seen on the field later, but only to help run the drinks.

When ledgends like Ponting and Hussey not performing in Test Cricket for quite some time now. And a player like Usman Khawaja is unable still to translate his massive talent into big innings... Then surely its a cause of concern for Australia..

He's only there to bowl 36 balls, does he think he's playing under-15s? No expectations for him whatsoever.

Still, he's a young lad who is probably in the process of filling out a bit in the next year or two to really grow into a fast bowlers body. So in that sense, I see no harm in not over bowling him too early in his career. Something that India have not necessarily always been good at avoiding.

We are producing good batsmen, (Quiney, Cowan, Rogers, and some older ones D Hussey, Hodge, Katich) but the selectors insist on picking the same old middle order.

I wouldn't call Rogers a produced batsman. He failed when he had the chance.

----------

I just wanna add, Mickey Arthur as coach has already done more than Nielsen. The batting camp has those bowling machines which can replicate the bowlers, it worked for England. Might work for Australia.

Rogers only had one game, but rough to judge him on that.

Cooper picks such random times to make runs. Over to the bowling now, few wickets from Lalor and he might find himself with a Baggy Green :p

You sound like a 1990's England fan haha :)

At least Sharma did India the service of writing himself off in a tour game. Zaheer Khan will probably wait until the Test matches.

With so many injuries, breakdowns, replacements going on....even Abey Kuruvilla & Paras Mhambrey would be waiting for a test recall :p

Jokes apart, if Ishant & Zaheer break down, which fast bowler do you think will fly over. As of now, rule out Aravind as well. Today also he didnt take the field in their Ranji match....now,in his place,Uthappa has opened the bowling :p

Hahah, we are not in times where Utthapa has to bowl :p :lol. Dhoni for a fact is better :p

Ishant if injured, then we should risk and play with 2 spinners what say?

Agreed, its better to play both the spinners than play vinay kumar or mithun.

Well and good if he's already fatigued in the middle of a tour, but he's only just beginning. The plinky hamstring of Zaheer Khan (sounds like a Harry Potter novel) is all that stands between him being India's main pace bowler for the next month. It's just not the right time to be backing off. If he can't bowl a couple of spells, take it easy over the weekend and then go again on Monday or Tuesday, he really shouldn't be there, nor should he have played 40 odd Tests already. If it's a fitness directive from the staff, it seems contradictory. They obviously haven't developed him well in the four years since he last came to Australia, but he probably should even stay away from first class cricket on that sort of regimen. It's no masterstroke to keep him in the squad; he could even have had some surgery done after England. As much as they are scraping the barrel with injuries, what value is he as a glorified Twenty20 player?

At this point he should be looking at 90 balls like it's a cake walk. He should be saying that he sees no point in bowling if he can't get a couple of spells in. He's going to try playing Test cricket in 11 days time. If it's too much to bowl 36 balls now, he's definitely going to be overworked in the real deal. He's going to need to bowl 150 balls a day on about 1 in 3 days over the next month. On this basis, I can't see how he's going to do it if not through being thoroughly mediocre.

Thank god Ishant is OK. Good that he was supposed to bowl only 6 overs. Dont over-bowl him and expose him much in Aussie conditions before the real thing. Highly impressed with Yadav yet again. Hope he makes this tour as his own. Crucial day today, our batting is going to be tested. Ideally, we should score huge here. But we are just off the plane, we are stiff, we will be jet lagged, so not sure how we go.
