Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Spineless batting performance. Same old story! After the first three days, I thought we were seeing a different India and the first test hoodoo might finally be cleared up. But its back to square one! Its back to start hoping that India follow their age old tradition of improving their game from the second test. I wish we had gone down with a fight, but that isn't to be. Really wish Dhoni starts seeing the right thing and picks Rohit Sharma in place of Kohli. And I hope he puts Laxman behind and not send the trio one after the other. The rest, we have to hope they come good next match.

nah, i think you're being a bit harsh because you're disappointed. both teams have bowled beautifully throughout this match, and have had stand out batsmen and suffered quick fire losses in each innings.

i think india have perhaps been a little unlucky sending the balls down fielders throats and the ball finding the stumps given they bowled extremely well at hussey and ponting for long spells when they were in. sometimes it just goes that way, ball find the hands and they hang on and it's a duck, other times the ball's a couple of feet to the left or you're dropped and you go on to score 200. cricket has a cruel way of magnifying little pieces of chance like that. which is also why it's such a wonderful game.

australia deserve their win because their 3 bowlers have been magnificent, but a 200ish run loss is not a reflection on how good a battle this test was throughout. hope for more of the same, certainly no reason for any of the indian players to end this match feeling thrashed.

What a performance from our quick bowlers this afternoon! Just need Lyon to chip in with a couple of wickets and that would really be the cherry on top.

As what has happened a couple of times in this match there has been a wicket but the umpire was unsure whether it was a no-ball. Now, why are they allowed to go upstairs and check whether it was a no-ball and therefore out or not? If the umpires are allowed to "refer" the decision to look for a no-ball because they are uncertain whether it was or not, then why can't the umpires go upstairs and refer a caught behind? It is like with the no-ball, a 50-50 decision.

If they are unsure with a no-ball they can check to see if it's out or not because they are unsure if it was a no-ball or not. But if they are unsure with a snick of the bat and caught behind, they cannot check so they make a guess, which could be the wrong decision just like the Australian first innings. What's the difference between the umpire referring for a no-ball and a caught behind?

@JonDogg: I kinda agree with you there. I just seems kinda silly especially when you have the technology to help you do so. I just don't understand certain things

In-fact, I think that if an umpire is ever doubtful of his decisions - he should call on the 3rd umpire.

The Laxman thing was touch and go (it was a no ball as the foot landed outside the line though it looked like in the previous frame, it had landed and then slided). But no complains, because it was a poor shot and we have batted poorly so far (except Dravid and Tendulkar and Ashwin:D, no one else has batted well enough).

I have really liked Ashwin's approach to his batting in this test match. Yes he is getting some lucky runs too, but he has been very positive in his approach and has not shied away from trying to score quick runs when possible. First innings 31, second innings 30* so far, pretty good...

I just found this --> Speedometer affecting quality fast bowling | The Roar <-- article and it's a good read. :). I kind-of agree with that guy.. in some ways.

 Ashwin and MS are still at the crease. I don't see this as a threat.. yet - but, you never know.

Ashwin has 3 centuries and 7 half-centuries in 37 first class matches. Dhoni can be dangerous once in a while in Test matches. Zaheer can hit some massive ones once in a while. Ishant has the potential to be a lower order wall. So there is this faintest of the faintest hope :D

But the problem is, even if they survive long enough, they have to encounter the 2nd new ball and thats when they will be gobbled up. But getting to the 2nd new ball itself will be some achievement to get.:D
