Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

The much vaunted Indian batting line up has failed again. I don't know the stats for 2011 but I can't remember much success from them. May be it is time for a couple retirements. Tendulkar is most likely going to stay on till he gets that 100th 100 and Dravid is surviving on the reputation of the England series but Laxman can and should be replaced. Dhoni in tests is a big question.

A big plus side is that the bowling looked a lot better and Zak/Yadav seem to be shaping up nicely.

Indian batting sucks officially. We havent scored a 300 run score for a long time against proper bowling :facepalm

Disappointed and Australians are true champs! Good side or not they know to seize opportunities and well done.

I see this series 3-1 in favor of Aussies after today's lackluster performances

Wonder how the Aussies would go about their bowling attack for the New Year test match? Persist with Lyon considering it's a spinner's paradise or get in a fourth seamer straightaway? The former looks more likely ATM.

As for WACA, it simply has to be a 4 seamer attack. Can't wait for that tbh. :D

India in Australia 2011-12: Ryan Harris likely to be fit for Sydney Test, says Michael Clarke | Cricket News | Australia v India | ESPN Cricinfo

Clarke said:
Adding to the anticipation of Harris' return is the level of discomfort inflicted on India's batsmen by James Pattinson, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus in Melbourne, the trio sharing 19 wickets in Australia's 122-run victory. Given the SCG's recent tendency to produce grassy surfaces that offer seam and swing in addition to the more traditional spin, Clarke said he and the selection panel will consider the merits of playing four quicks at the ground if conditions are suitable.

"The SCG of late has had a fair bit of grass on it, so we'll have to assess conditions. That's something we have to talk about as a selection panel; it is a good option to have. It is great news for us if Ryan is fully fit. He puts pressure on the rest of the bowlers and gives us an extra string to our bow.

"Ryan has had a lot of success for us and he's a quality bowler, so we need to look at the conditions. If it is going to spin or if it is a bit dry we can talk about two spinners, we can talk about an allrounder, but if it has got grass on it like it did last year there is a chance we could play four fast bowlers."

Thank you Pup for the heads-up. :D

His foot looked in the air in that initial frame which looked like landing to the umpire who used that frame to give him out. But where he actually landed his foot was in the next frame where his foot was on the line. The umpire took the previous frame for reference and gave him out. And DRS wouldnt have done anything in this.

I agree that his foot looked to be still in the air in the penultimate frame. But given that his foot clearly slid after being planted, and that his foot was arcing down onto the line in the preceding sequence of frames, we can logically infer that the "missing" frame in-between would have shown a legal delivery. It was close, yes, but not in doubt.

Plenty of other dodgy umpiring decisions in this match, but with respect I don't think that was one of them...

India got bulb again after too much seen...:p
i think similar situation in england would come again

well, I thought it was a great match. australia deserved the win, they had more batsmen that dug in and their bowlers probably just shaded india's, but 122 tells a flattering story. i just hope india don't let their heads go down, they'll win matches this series if they play like that again.

if india lost it anywhere I'd say it was the morning they lost dravid, laxman, kohli and dhoni all before ishant had even got out. one of the reasons I'm never very keen on nightwatchmen is that if the night watchman isn't the first guy out the new batsman can sometimes feel unsettled until he has a proper batting partner.

India really should make a few changes in their batting line-up.

All of a sudden, things are looking very bright for Australia. It's amazing what a victory of this sort can do..

Anyone else hopeful of seeing Cummins/Pattinson leading the Australian bowling line-up in all formats in the future? I'm really excited so far...

Historic Win... Unfortunately I couldnt watch it ball to ball due to work but I have seen match in glimpses and it seemed to me a pretty fast test match after a long long time.

It was a sigh of relief when Ponting scored two fifties in this test match. I hope he will finally make a century soon. David Warner is a wonderful addiition to test squad, he deserved it in the first place.

Australia has proved itself once again. Such a fantastic first class structuer. I am hoping that this team will rise soon

Beating a team who has so much deep batting will surely raise the confidence level

Great win by Australia. This win will be very important in terms of confidence for them.

Very disappointed by the result. Seriously did not expect this and was very confident for the very first time that we can actually do well in the first test but batting collapse prevented that.

Sehwag : Well you can not really blame him as this is the only way he knows how to play.

Gambhir: This guys needs some runs. He is overdue a century from a long time now.

Dravid: Even though he made 60 odd in the first innings, I thought he was still struggling in the first inning and also in second. The way he got bowled in the second inning was just embarrassing. He had no clue where the ball was going.

Sachin: He was looking really good in both the innings just needs to build on his inning.

Laxman: Over- confidence? I don't know but he needs runs in overseas conditions.

Kohli: He is struggling a lot against the red ball and I would immediately bring Rohit in place of him.

Dhoni: I would say this guy is under a lot of pressure and he seriously needs to do something about his form in long format. Even though I am one of the biggest fan and supporter of him, I will still say that if he does not perform, we have to think about a replacement for him.

Ashwin: I would say he has done alright. It's his first away tour so you can't really blame him as he also did well with the bat. I feel he can be very handy when it comes to removing tail enders. His carrom ball can be very effective against likes of Hilfenhaus, Pattinson and Lyon.

I have no complains for fast bowlers as all of them did very well except that they could have got the tailenders out early but still they have done well enough.

Suddenly batting is a concern now for India. Which amazes me. But I am sure India will come back.

We said this in England too after the Lords test that India will come back but I dont see them.

I dont understand why an International team like India is lose confidence with just a guy's inning that is Pattinson this time. He got 40 OK! We had 2 DAYS! 180 overs to score 292 which is hell lot of time. You know conditions are tricky and that bastard Sehwag smashes from ball one? That is over confidence. Dhoni you either perform or just gtfo. I dont really like his captaincy in test now way too defensive.

South Africa are losing home matches and havent performed well, try to swap the coaches :p I dont really like Duncan behind the scene too

Yes, we did, but that time it was us( Indian Fans) being unrealistic and optimistic. This time though our bowling is looking pretty good but now the concern shifts to batting. If we bat better, we can win.

We can just hope. In last one year look at our batting scores.

Code:
India	158
India	169
India	201
India	209
India	224
India	244
India	246
India	252
India 261

This is pathetic. We have played 3 test in Africa, 3 in West Indies, 4 in England , 3 back home and 1 here that is 28 innings out of which 9 innings have been pretty low. We have only 4 innings in which we have scored more then 350 :facepalm

This shows there is not only problem with Australian batting we are facing it more

Don't you think some of the comments dissing Indian team are a bit over the top? Yes, our performance on the 4th day at Melbourne was shocking and poor, but that doesnt take away the good performance that we put up over the past 3 days of this test. Nobody expected us to put even such a performance up in the first test of a series. Zaheer was coming back after a long time, Yadav/Ashwin were unknown quantities in overseas conditions, Ishant had a dodgy ankle. But still, the bowling stood up and delivered what was required (20 wkts). Our batting failed for sure, but even there we challenged Australia for a good enough period (that first innings where Dravid, Sachin and Sehwag scored good runs). I am optimistic that if our bowling continues to bowl the way they did, the batting will surely start clicking pretty soon.

And yes, I believe India will turn it around at Sydney. In England, we didn't turn it around because we suffered injuries to the most crucial of players (e.g. Zaheer, Sehwag, Gambhir, etc). But here hopefully with all of these players fit, we should expect a turnaround in our batting display and overall performance.

You mean the Sehwag who managed scores of 0,0,8,32 over the next two tests in the flattest of tracks?
