Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) Dec-Jan 2011/12

Ponting seems to be finding some form again so pushing him back up to 3 could be an option. Especially if Watson comes in for Marsh, then we can get Watson in the position which allows him to bowl more overs.

Ashwin would be worth a shot here. They are scoring at ease here. When Yadav picks wickets, he looks good. But today is not his day and its hurting us

Edit: Long day for India on the field. And with it, the match as well.......

Just keep Pup off strike for the last over of play please.

Finally Ashwin on, should be interesting seeing how he goes. Lyon was very average apart from one delivery.

Already the game has slipped away... Tomorrow could be a pounding for India. The 79 run partnership between Clarke and Ponting showed that lots of runs are to be had here at this pitch. India most likely will be attempting to save an innings defeat when they come next (which they eventually wont be able to save). This will be an innings defeat!

Now lets keep Aussies to 150 before 35 overs and then toss the old ball to Zaheer :p

Exciting times continue. Certainly provides hope for India that if they get one wicket, that might allow them to get quite a few. Might be too late if they need the old ball though...

The Aussies are on track to post 250-300 here, which means India need to score 400 in their second innings to have a chance of coming back into this game, which is unlikely. I think it's game over, but here's where the fighting spirit of the team should come through. I'm sure if the situation was the other way around, the Aussie team would be still confident of running through the Indian batsmen. It's still possible to restrict the Aussies to under 220, but I guess it's unlikely.

Thats a good bowling performance.

If Aussies bat calmly and like I know they can, should get a good first innings lead.

What fighting spirit? They've lain down and been spanked rather than fight from what I've seen recently.
That's what I meant, my wording was poorly phrased. What I meant to say was that, in situations like these the Aussie team would still have that fighting spirit, that never-say-die attitude to keep them going through till the end of the match. It's a relic from the great Aussie team of the 2000s but it is still present in the current team. I think it's cultural. Whereas the Indian team have rarely shown 'bouncebackability' overseas.

^ me

I think it's time to start looking at a few other options in place of Gambhir and Sehwag, especially outside of India. I wouldn't put them in the XI right away but let those two know that there are others breathing down their neck. Laxman for me has to go. He's becoming a bit of a liability. Dhoni also needs some pressure on him because he seems to have become comfortable with his own mediocrity. Out of the top 7, right now, I would say only Dravid and Sachin are 100% safe. I know all the Dravid haters will start saying even Dravid hasn't performed in these past 3 innings, but open your eyes- he was JUST selected as the ONLY Indian in the Test XI of 2011. I don't think 3 innings (one of which he got 68 in) means that you call for his head.
