Bowling Guide!

Click the right stick in before you bowl (press R3).
:cheersHa ha. That has worked a treat.

Managed to get a 5 wicket haul in the first innings against Somerset.
17 overs 7 maidens 15 runs 5 wickets!
Mainly bowled to the batsmens weaknesses. Particularly early on in there innings.

Something I was noticing last night playing a T20.

When you are pace bowling, and select a delivery your bowler is adept at, when you push up to release the ball the accuracy "ball" below the meter is more forgiving. Meaning your skilled deliveries can purposefully be pushed on lines to the left and right without much effort.

Conversely, if you choose a delivery that you are not skilled at, hitting that straight or not accuracy point has more left to right influence.

If this is really happening and I am not just seeing things then this is amazingly cool.

I like how it effects the controls themselves as opposed to most sports game devs just varying the animation and result post input leading you to wonder what you did wrong because it felt right. With this being live on the controller you know that you must be very precise when bowling a weaker delivery and you can run your strong ones down there with more abandon.

Now I just wish pre-bowl there was a delivery menu that highlighted your best and worst deliveries. Since I jump around and play as different teams it always requires paging through the roster before the match to browse bowler ratings and jot them down on a piece of paper.

Hi.

I purchased this game again this time on PS4! After owning it on PS3.

Now is it just me or is bowling a little more difficult to get wickets on career mode?!
I used to be able to bore people out with my Off Spinners nagging line and length.

Now I just bowl maiden after maiden.

Now I have heard that people say looking at the batsmens strengths and weaknesses! How do you do that?
Just analyse the players in the academy before you play them.

Or am I missing something and there is something I can click on during a match?

Click in the right thumbstick in between deliveries, and you'll see the batsman's strongest/weakest skills. I personally don't pay a lot of attention to these for top order batsman, as for all you know his "weak" offside skill could be 2 bars from top.. But still his lowest skill, so it's useful to know, but don't abide by it 100% of the time.. It's all about variations mate ;)

I have seen decent spin for the first time in this game!!!

I also have seen some of my best dismissals!

4th day pitch. Lots of rough.

Usually I see a lot of drift but little turn.

Was bowling to Hales in a county game drew him to drive by pitching wide of off stump. Bowled a 1500rpm off spinner and it jagged back from outside off and clipped middle and leg. Bowled through the gate. So satisfying.

Then bowling to a lefty can't remember name bowled a topspin ner on off stump the ball hit the edge popped up off his pad in the air and was caught at back pad!!! Classic off spin dismissal!

Hey guys,

My first post here! What a dedicated community we have going here! Fantastic work.

I got my PC copy from Amazon after 1 long year! Its still kinda expensive, but worth it, IMO
I know i know! PES 2015 took all my time and now that i have played that for a year, i switched my attention to DBC 2014.

I played it in my friend's place PS3 copy and i totally enjoyed Spin and Pace bowling .
I could get how to bowl on a line and length. But i do have some questions.

Spin
I can get the ball to REV @ > 1500 RPM. But i cant see visible turn at the most i see the ball holding its line.

So this means, RPM is not an issue, i'm rotating the LAS thrice and the third 'complete' rotation ends at the same time as i push RAS forward.
That is fine. I get lovely RPMs even above 2000 many times.

So my problem is noticeable turn. I play on Dusty or Crumbly wicket and i need to get this right.
As per the guide, at the beginning, i need to move the Left Analog Sitck (LAS) in the direction of the delivery you want to bowl before selecting the delivery type.

I think here is the confusion.

Now here are screenshots of my old and dirty Logitech controller !

If i move the Left Analog Sitck (LAS) in this direction - is this a leg break for a right arm wrist spinner? Will we see noticeable turn on > 1500 RPMs on Dusty and Crumbly pitches?

If i move the Left Analog Sitck (LAS) in this direction - is this a googly for right arm wrist spinner? Will we see noticeable turn on > 1500 RPMs on Dusty and Crumbly pitches?

What happens here when we do this?

PACE BOWLING
Same thing here, i hardly see major swing and movement. Does it depend on pitches? I have been playing on Dusty and Crumbly pitches so far to work on my spin.

The third pic will be drift+spin delivery and 4'0 clock will be flight+ spin...Vice versa for Off spinner

In pace bowling that's in cutter and out cutter deliveries...

@kamyFC

A couple of tips for you in regards to spin bowling.

Reduce drift to zero or just 1 or 2 attributes above zero for the spin bowlers you use regularly. The reason for this being that the drift is exaggerated and as a result over-powers the turn slightly. Even set to zero you can still get the ball to drift by selecting the drift deliveries and also by shining the ball. Once you get used to bowling with these settings you can have a go at setting drift differently for different bowlers to make them individual and give you different options even if they are the same type of bowler.

The ball won't always turn sharply but every now and then one will. This is a feature of DBC I personally really like.

Look to pitch the ball on any features the pitch may have, such as worn areas and on cracks, if you hit these areas you will see some extra deviation. Depending on where these areas are located will dictate from which end and also from which side of the wicket you should bowl. This also applies to seam bowling.

Thanks for this bit of information. Have been playing the game for more than a year and didn't know shining the ball had any affect on drift/spin deliveries. I thought shining the delivery is only required for pace bowlers to get swing/reverse swing.

I only picked up on this due to setting the drift to zero, I was playing a match and I noticed the ball begin to drift when it shouldn't have been doing so. I think conditions may be a factor also.

Another good tip is when bowling with pace across a batsman e.g. right-arm over to a left handed batsman is if they play straight to a ball swinging away from the batsman, shine the ball before the next delivery and then bowl on the same spot again. This will generate just enough extra deviation, which can sometimes result in an edge.

To get the most from this tip you will need to be playing with the lowered swing attributes as recommended in Blockerdaves thread.

I would also say, use swing balls (in or out) as a stock ball, and a cross seam ball as a surprise - I have got a fair few edges this way.

cutters on worn pitches can really move as well, though I've not had great success from them in terms of edges.

Strongest Skill : Back Foot
Weakest Skill : Straight Bat

What type of ball should do for such type of Batsman ?

Weakest skill doesn't mean they aren't good in that area, just means it's their lowest score. Eg if they're maxed on everything but front foot is one increment off max, it'll say front foot is their weakest skill - they'll still be bloody good on it though.

Yeah my stock delivery is the ball swinging away from the batsman although was starting to experiment with setting fields for inswing and bowling in that manner. With you mentioning the cross seam ball it has reminded me that I used to find this really effective when bowled from wide of the crease but I had completely forgotten about it.

As far as strengths and weaknesses go I don't take any notice and just bowl to my field. If a batsman starts getting a few runs under his belt I will often check the wagon wheel to see where he is scoring and then adjust my field accordingly.
