Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

My predictions:

Chelsea
Villareal
Bayern Munich
Ateltico Madrid
Barcelona
Liverpool
Arsenal
Man Utd

Liverpool will make easy work of Madrid. Plus, it's pretty much tradition that they have to play Chelsea in the semis these days.

But I want Barcelona to win it. I've always loved Barca.

Very good draw for us considering the sides we avoided:

Juve, Bayern and BARCA.

Plus, Panathinaikos is a bit of a trek.

Just gotta hope Madrid do us a favour and beat the scouse.

Ours will be tough, but we are the holders and hopefully should be hitting top gear by then.

Apparently, Chelsea vs Juve is the first time they've met, I was always under the impression they played in the European cup in 1985...

Apparently, Liverpool and United are due to face eachother in the final, according to the Scousers on Sky Sports, ignoring the fact that they could face eachother in the QFs or that Barca are the best team in the Continent at the moment.

Hoping Barca's few worries will see them go out but it probably won't happen against Lyon realistically.

Good to see madrid hit some form but I still don't think they can do it with the second leg at Anfield. Having said that it's the best chance they'll get.

United have a real tough game, especially with our injuries. Last time we were in Milan it didn't go well. Worried now.

Really wish Arshavin was playing. Thought there was a chance of having Walcott and Eduardo back in time.

Last time we went to San Siro we werent matured enough. Two seasons later we are much better side. Plus we have most of our players in form just the defence is the worry. Hoping Evans and O'Shea both pass the late fitness test and both play. As we are without Rafael, Neville and Brown and Vida due to suspension.

i will go for a draw hoping to be a draw including some goals..

Got a bad feeling about the tie in general, just can see Mourinho sneaking through.

We need a goal tonight, 1-1 would be superb, I'd even take 2-1 to them. 1-0 would be pretty bad, while 2-0 would be nothing short of disasterous. Can't see them not scoring, just because of our re-shuffled back four (if we can summon up four defenders that is.;))

PhilD123 added 23 Minutes and 0 Seconds later...

Maybe Eric and Beckham in the United end tonight too.:D

David Beckham and Eric Cantona to watch Manchester United - still Europe's greatest draw - Telegraph

We got lucky with the ref tonight, he was giving pretty much all the 50/50's to us.

I am shitting it. Can't wait a week. Ringing up people for spares. Unlikely though. Phil got a spare? :p

WTF I have reacted really weirdly to this game. I am going to be crapping myself come next week.

I kind of miss Mourinho, he's a knob but a funny one. They showed him calling Liverpool more direct than Bolton which made me smile.

Anyway actual football, we were decent, with Rooney on and Vidic back it's there to take.

Now come on madrid. I have been dissapointed by Ryan Giggs not having his shooting boots on (although I thought he was class), so you need to cheer me up.

Phil got a spare? :p
:D

Brilliant performance tonight, totally controlled the game (especially the first half) in a difficult place to go and play. Carrick, Fletcher, Park, all brilliant. Ronaldo was class too I thought. Probably should have brought Rooney on earlier.

Slightly disappointed not to get a goal, but if that's what we have to beat at Old Trafford then fantastic. They looked really poor, the over-hyped Ibrahimovic failed to perform as ever, and if that's Italy's best then it's obvious why they are nowhere near having the best league even in Europe.

Nasri was different class today. We should have scored at least 3. There's having a lack of confidence in front of goal but Eboue's just ridiculous.

We had most of the possession and haven't conceded in 4 yet we still need 'ball-winner' even though Song's in form?...

Plus, I had a constant eye on Inter-United and Inter were shite. Really poor. No creativity and the fat and slow Adriano's hardly any use picking up the ball just past the HW line. Ibrahimovic lacked ideas and Maicon was poor.

Absolutely, but I'm just a little bit worried. It's been many a long, sad European night when we've gone out at Old Trafford by the odd goal, simply because we didn't get an away goal in the first leg. But, if that Inter Milan team turn up again, then we should win. And we'll have Vidic back (although we hardly missed him!! We had nearly all our frontline defenders out and you wouldn't have noticed. I'm just amazed that Ronaldo had about four clear freekick chances and didn't score, that doesn't happen often if he gets that many goes at it! Well done tonight, Utd, now finish it at Old Trafford and get 'The (So Called) Special One' back for Porto's win however many years back it was.

You have to laugh: Mourinho was trying to goad Utd into attacking and by God, that's what he got! It could very easily have been three or four-nil; I don't think I've ever seen an Italian team subdued so much on their own patch before. We should finish the job at Old Trafford.

For now, bring on Spurs... :boxing

Yeah Ronaldo was brilliant today, he had some 3-4 chances on target of freekicks. Giggs, Park, Fletcher and Carrick were brilliant also but just disappointed with Berba. Didnt play his best game ever. We could have easily scored 2 or 3 but the luck favoured them. Well our defence was best as ever Vida coming back will make it just strong. Ibrahimovich was just useless. Whenever he lost the ball he just gave up running and that Adriano lolz cant even pass with his right leg :p .

Hoping Real Madrid and Juventus do a favour to Manchester United..
