Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Although it's clear Chelsea should have had probably 4 penalties, 3 at least, Drogba and Ballack should not have reacted like they did. Ballack shouted in the ref's face and tried to drag him back to force him into making a decision, and Drogba's rant was just laughable really. I appreciate and respect his passion, but that's not the way to react or confront an official, no matter how bad he may have been. It really should have been a United-Chelsea final though, such a shame for Chelsea!

Ballack is another one headed for hot water. You just cannot get in the ref's face like that!

With the way Sir Alex frequently plays Rooney in almost a fullback role, I can see him hanging Rooney around Messi's neck for the whole game.

There will obviously be punishments for what happened but to be honest if I was in that situation I might have physically attacked the referee.

We got rigged by the ref  just brilliant  denied penalties and lots more  but the way we played was sensational. Now Barca should pound United

Why?

Because you've just been served a huge portion of sour grapes?

I believe that's the most likely explanation. Remember, we actually managed to beat Barca last year.

Edit: But of course! Barca are one of your many 'backup teams'!

I can understand the Chelsea players' reactions, I would certainly have reacted in the same way.

First of all, all teams just shut up shop away and we did that well and were probably unlucky to score. Second game it wasn't as defensive as the first.

Tactics were poor? Shutting barca out for 2 legs, not letting them get 1 goal?
Stick to cricket, I heard Scotland aren't too good at Football(being in Europe doesn't make you good).

Mate, I've been a football fan for longer than a cricket fan and Chelsea were my local team, and the team my Dad took me to see when I lived in London for 18 years. Don't start trying to lecture me on football.
I thought that the move to replace Drogba with Belleti was indicitive of Chelsea's tactics: midfielder for striker. Of course they did bloody well shutting Barca out for nearly two legs but it was bad tactics to think that one goal would be enough against the team who have scored most in Europe this season. There were bound to be more chances as Barca went for it but the number of times I saw Chelsea with so many men behind the ball that clearances went straight to the opposition was way too many for a team with a 1 goal lead against Barcalona.
Sure they were bloody unlucky but as I said before I don't rate Anelka and Drogba has to accept he isn't going to believed when he actually does get fouled when he goes down quicker than Ricky Hatton most of the time.

What is being said on You're On Sky Sports is correct. The Bundesliga's best referee should have been out there tonight.

And that is why i hate football sometime. Chelsea is supposed to lead by 2 or 3 goals, if referee has not been blind. Anyway Game on, Penalty would be perfect end of this match.

Ok sorry i forgot that Barca with away goal, will face Man U in finals.
Damn, this is really Harsh on Chelsea.Drogba has nearly punched referee there. :p
That really cracked me up for some reason.:D How long were you waiting for extra time to start for!?:D

Unlucky for Chelsea, obviously should have had a penalty and had a right to complain but they did step over the line and I suspect there might be suspensions next season for Drogba and Ballack. I don't really have anything sympathy for the players/supporters/club in general anyway. They only sold 2000 of their 4500 allocation for their game in Barcelona when they would have definitely sold out their end for Rome, and they booed their team off at half time against Liverpool when there was still a game to be won. Plus, Kenyon's face at seeing United go through and Chelsea go out would be brilliant.:D

Barcelona most definitely aren't overrated. They've been fantastic this year, yes they struggled against Chelsea but they beat them didn't they? You don't have hte record they have got from being overrated.

I have no problems with the way the Chelsea players reacted, they will get punished but what Drogba said was true.

Yeah it was true, of course, and I'd have been annoyed if it was United and to be fair someone like Rooney might have done something similar. But, there's definitely a line and they crossed it, it's not the first time they've done it either. Remember last year's CL final, or the time when Mikel got sent off at Old Trafford. It's a recurring feature of this current Chelsea side.

Whilst most of the important decisions did go their way and the ref had a complete shocker, he also gave a pretty big decision to them. That wasn't a red card on Abidal at all.

EDIT: Tonight shows why for all the worthless talk that UEFA/FIFA/the FA make, this respect compaign is not going to work, because big decisions affect big games and a club's season and so players/fans/managers will get annoyed no matter how many badges they wear on their arms.

Spot on. On a side note, that guy who says he's sitting in a Chelsea pub wearing an Ineista shirt and a smug look on his face, has he got some kind of death-wish??

I stand by what I said. The one and only reason that Chelsea didn't easily beat Barca tonight was the referee was one of the worst I've ever seen. I mean, come on! One shot on target and that came in injury time?? That is a poor showing for me. Barcelona have been magnificent this year, yes but against who? La Liga teams, most of which would struggle massively in the Premiership.

About Drogba, correct me if I'm wrong, but the first time they showed his yelling at the camera, you didn't hear any swearing (in fact, I couldn't actually make out a single word), but the second time, it was crystal clear (as though someone had deliberately turned the sound up). I reckon someone at Sky Sports might be in for some trouble as well. Also, it was a disgrace from Drogba. He had been substituted for God's sake. I can understand Ballack/Terry's reaction, they were in the heat of the moment of the game, but Drogba? I think he was trying to make a point and went OTT with it.

Edit: I am so stealing that joke!

'I have been trying to find Chelsea on my sat-nav. I had no idea it was only two minutes away from Rome! :D :D :D :rtfl

Nah, you could hear it the first time, although it was a bit fainter than the second time. When it came back on after the adverts, they showed it and I thought they were going to bleep it out or silence it then. The sound of Keys' voice though when they realised they hadn't and it was clearly audible.:D "Erm, erm, we're sorry about that".

It was rather funny, though wasn't it? :D

By the way, how much do you think we'll crush City by on Sunday? The confidence is now flowing through Man Utd!!
