Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

A liverpool fan couple of years ago maybe would be very happy, but we've came to expect more now I suppose. Can't really complain tbh.

Since Joe says so, here are my thoughts on Man U and their chances:p

Hmmm, well I don't know yet. Its a bit to early I think to tell how we will do over the whole tournament, however I do think we will progress through the group stage - us and Roma will go through. I think we should talk about how we will go in the group stage before talking about winning the thing, after our so-so start.

Todays game against Sporting will be good - they will see their two old boys Nani and Ronaldo No Hargreaves is a bummer but. At least Carrick will be assured he will play. Hopefully Fergie pushes up Scholes! He is good when he is deep but I still like him pushing up the ground. Rooney is back but I want Saha starting if he is 100% fit, I still rate him highly (even though at the end of last season I thought he was a gonner). I like Tevez but I reckon he is still adjusting and will get better as we go along.

All in all, how will we go this season? Iam not sure - too early. I reckon after last season we should expect a Semi Final. From there anything can happen.

Liverpool look out of sorts, that rotation policy again :p Milan look as comfortable as ever, Madrid not doing too well against Bremen and as i speak RUUUD Van Nistlerooy mucks up another chance. Chelsea still stuck at 1-1 but stepping it up now and they will score, Chelsea always scrape what they need. You knew Shevchenko would score tonight, he's a better player in the CL and the way Moutnhos been treating him he was always going to hit back. Now of course Jose will say it was all his masterstroke to get the best out of him

Madrid played well actually and deserved the victory. Raul was awesome.

When i posted that they were drawing 1-1 and were wasting chances. Raul ran 9000 metres and had 1 shot :p

maybe raul scored one goal and assisted the other for RVN.
And btw, Raul aint a Penalty area forward, he brings the ball from the back and thats why he not only scores but makes chances for other players.
A GREAT PERFORMANCE BY RAUL! :hpraise

mental note-no jokes abour Raul because all Madrid fans get on their periods about him.

Couple of hours now before Ronny goes home, this year has to be the year we put our poor away record in the champions league to bed. i hope Nani and Ronaldo play tonight so they can rub it in their old sides face

Will try and remember:p

Ronny and Nani playing, no Tevez or Saha, but Rooney starts. I'm actually quite suprised, personally I'd have played Tevez as his game would suit Europe more I think and put Rooney on the bench, giving him half an hour at the end to get some fitness for Sunday.

Really looking forward to this, the Champions League really is something else.

I wanted to go this because the grounds reasonably near to our house, about 1-2 hours drive but apparently GCSE's are more important. I'd rather get all F's and have united win every game in the year than have all A*s and have us lose every game.

Did Lassana Diarra just pass the ball backwards into our half!? That's not the Arsenal way! Get him out!

Good win for united tonight, especially when you look at the stats about playing sporting away Trust Ronny to get the goal :) and things looked like they started to click in time for sunday until we decided there wasn't much time left so sitting back would be the right thing to do! Arsenal were comfortable as you would expect from them at home, Rangers did well too get a win! Course that doesn't matter because i doubt either side could get past Barca or Lyon. Barca did well too win 3-0 although the scoreline was a bit flattering considering they were 1-0 up for 80 minutes

Oh i forgot to mention:
Van Der Sar was amazing

Well done, lads! Great result away from home and a terrific start to the group stage!

Fantastic win tonight. I hate to see us playing like we did in the first half, that just isn't us, but it doesn't matter I guess in away games. We got an excellent and well deserved 3 points. The state of their pitch was terrible. There'll be pitches in the Conference better than that. VDS was fantastic.

Nice bit of sporting play by Ronaldo after his goal. (See what I did there?:p)
