Champions League Thread (the dawn of time - 2014)

Lazio are a quality outfit at home, and are champions in breaking down the rhythm and passing of opposition teams. I would expect teams like Roma, Arsenal and Barcelona to struggle big time against them for this very reason.

We beat them quite comfortably pre-season. Obviously, it was only a pre-season game but it must bear some relevance if we were ever to cross paths.

We are pathetic in the CL and the Prem atm.

I mean not being able to beat 2 out of form teams AT ANFIELD, is disgraceful.

That Marseille performance made me cry, we should of won that EASY.

first of all well played Arsenal, taking nothing away from them but you must question the point of games like that which only damages the sides fitness and gives them some extra goals to improve their stats. I think it might be time for an extra qualifying round or something like that.

On to united, a good win in what is never going to be the easiest game. Shame about the injurys before the game but Evra looks like we're just being careful. Scholes is a shame but i think we're getting Carrick back in the next 2-3 weeks and we should beat boro with this side. Arsenal will be different but theres enough strength to give them a game. tevez looked quality, he didn't play that well but you could see he' got bags of taent and he's one of the most exciting players i've ever seen at OT. Anderson was very good, Rooney scored again :D 7 in 6 for club and country now, Ronaldo gets his second goalof the tournament and another header, he was brilliant, he didn't play that well but the Kiev defenders were so frightened of him he caused them problems with his reputation. Giggs was brilliant too, one of the best games i've seen him have in a long while. Comfortable win really. Now lets get healing those injurys!

That was quality first half, I don't care how poor Kiev were at the back, we were fantastic and free flowing going forward. Tonight and Saturday are two of the best performances from us for a while. The Tevez - Rooney partnership looks to be fantastic with Ronaldo joining them and we deserved the win. It was a great game, just a pity we couldn't have had a few more goals.

Well done Arsenal, when you went 6-0 up inside 50 odd minutes, I thought you were going to get past our 9 against Ipswich!:p

EDIT: I agree on Giggsy Joe, I've slated him one or two times this season, but he had a cracker tonight, his cross for the Ronaldo goal was exceptional.

Utd are really hitting their stride now, it's going to be a fun battle with the Gooners!

Why are some people making such a big deal out of Rangers managing not to get humiliated by Barca? Well done, you manage not to lose. I'm still rooting for them. ;)

Man Utd were clinical against Kiev. They are finding their form but...

As for Arsenal's form...

Everyone was brilliant! Walcott's finishing, movement, passing was superb. Rosicky was great when he came on. He set up a couple of chances and coulda scored. Ade had an off day but it helps when the rest of the team scores 7 to help you out because they're so kind like that. Hleb was lovely. Fabregas's passing and goals were magnificent. Could have been 10 but we trailed of at the end.

Lehmann can (leave quietly) for all I care.

Walcott definititely proved alot against Slavia Prague. Other teams should start worrying about what he might be doing in 2-3 years.

I read in The Daily Mirror yesterday that there were odds of 50/1 that not a single British team would win in the Champions League this week after the country's terrible sporting weekend.

Arsenal and Manchester United blew that out of the water yesterday!

ROOOOBINHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Brazilian is back!

and what a killer save by Casillas in the end.......brilliant!!

top of the group in europe
top of the table in la liga

can it get any better?? (are you listening barca???)

I severely doubt that anyone from Barcelona is listening to you right now as I don't think any of them would take particular interest in an online cricket forum.

Even if you hate Liverpool, you should be supporting them in the Champions League as they are representing the UK, as are Arsenal, Celtic, Chelsea, Manchester United and Rangers. I root for them all in the hope they win so it makes our country look good.

Here is how the UK fared this week:

ARSENAL 7-0 Slavia Prague
Benfica 1-0 CELTIC
CHELSEA 2-0 Schalke
Beskitas 2-1 LIVERPOOL
Dynamo Kiev 2-4 MANCHESTER UNITED
RANGERS 0-0 Barcelona

Yes I do. End of debate.
