Commonwealth Bank Series

Cook is good but he can't really play at the ODI pace. Suppose he can't be worse than Strauss though

why not? odi debut made 38 off 36 2nd odi 40 off 45.. this kid is englands most talented player without KP in the side

i think that there is no point in bringing in more players if they themselves will be included in these losses.....I think they should just wait till the series is over...by the looks of things that will be Tuesday

I think about 75% of the damage is mental....but there are players in this current side that definitely dont fill the void left by injuries and other omissions, The shot that Collingwood played, and the shot Loye played. Joyce too....players just cant get out in that fashion. I think people are blaming the captaincy too much when I think the squad at hand isnt up to class, England have scored 230 in total in their last two matches.

And why is Nixon in the side and not Read? Nixon prior to this game was averaging 7.5 with the bat...surely not to standard.....their tail contributes nothing and starts as soon as Flintoff gets out....once he is out you literally feel like the team has a maximum of 10 overs left and you know that those 10 overs will reap almost nothing in terms of runs.

Bell has never scored an ODI century

He meant tests, I think it's only a matter of time before Bell gets an ODI hundred tbh. He looked good today and he was very good in 2006 in ODIs.

He's had problems for sure, but he has often had alot of pressure put on him (like many England batsman last summer). He's still young, he's only played 31 times for England (batting in all bar 2 of those). Bell is similar to Atherton (maybe has more shots), Atherton had a decent record for someone so defensive.

Bells good enough imo.

Cook isn't playing because the selectors are dopes. He made a good start in those two games but for some reason the selectors think Strauss on poor form is better.

Right, lets start from the beginning. This whole fiasco with Harmison. The guy is a top drawer bowler, yet he gets a bad spell and he gets criticised. I don't blame him for quiting ODI's, the media have been on his back for years and moan the minute he does something wrong. The pressure on him was amazing and as soon as something doesn't come off for England, he gets the blame. A scapegoat if ever there was one.

Another thing, shock horror, people go through bad form. Just let me remind you of this though, we're still only 4 wins away from winning the tournament. Not a big problem in my view.

All this talk about replacing players is rubbish. Are we expected to have some sort of production line whereby if you don't score 20 you're replaced? Now that is a joke.

Time will tell how we do in this series, but to suggest dropping our best remaining One Day player (Collingwood) is shocking, especially considering the bowling form he is in. If anything we should be looking to put in another specialist batsman for a bowler, rather than a straight swap.

On to bragging now, I told you Loye wasn't good enough. ;)

One of Strauss, Collingwood or Bell have to be dropped, with all 3 out of touch (though Bell may be getting back into form after todays positive and good looking 35) one has to be dropped, they're just too unreliable. Strauss isn't looking in any kind of form, but Collingwood is looking even worse. Shah should be out here/there.

He'll come good. :p

Agreed on Collingwood. He has been in bad nick since the Adelaide test really but I believe he will come good. His bowling has been more threatening than our spinners' at times too.

You quoted the entire post to say that?! Jeez, post something constructive.

Strauss does have do be dropped though. He's never really excelled at ODI level anyway.

You say 4 wins away from winning the tournament, that means 4 wins out of 6, and at least 2 against Australia. Personnally I can't see us winning a game at the moment.

Oh come on, he's at the top of the order to do a job, that is to make use of the powerplays. He got 36 at a run a ball against Australia last week. A player doing the job that he is, is going to fail a bit sometimes.

Bopara should come in for Strauss. Bopara is unproven
That sounded like you were contradicting yourself then. :p

I meant that Bopara hasn't had his career destroyed by the Aussies yet
Yeah I got what you mean. If he comes in he will probably have his career destroyed by the Aussies anyway. :p
