Who actually is Australias backup batsman if Ponting, Clarke or Hussey get injured? Watson can't be relied upon that much surely?
we have a couple of players capable....Brad Hodge, Mark Cosgrove, Adam Voges, Phil Jaques....

Hmm, Vaughan is ruled out of Fridays game and Anderson has apparently gone home. \o/

There are plenty of young players with high one day averages although they havent played to many games

Others to stereotypes list
Chris Rogers
Marcus North
David Hussey

Amazingly, in spite a bad year, Jaques' 192 puts him right back up near the top of the table. Pity about Hodge, he seems very nervous in ODIs, but he's an excellent attacking stroke player and he's again in great form this year.

A little way down the list, Haddin has been in good enough nick for a specialist's spot and James Hopes has improved as well, though he's carrying a shoulder injury. I'd also put David Hussey into the side pretty quickly, not so many runs in FR Cup, but great form nevertheless. Marcus North is probably on the list as well.

Darren Lehmann and Matthew Elliott have been pretty good, if the team got eaten by sea monsters there's a few 'old men' who would be in with a shot. Like them, Katich is still about and they'd give him another chance if they were stretched.

Ed Cowan and Luke Pomersbach also look like they have serious international class about them. Tim Paine was also looking good earlier, when he made his maiden hundred a double, but perhaps the workload has gotten to him a bit. I wouldn't be totally surprised if these guys started making wildcard appearances.

I see them devloping into good players Paine has struggled a bit of late because the tigers insist on him opening the batting in first class games and after being out on the field keeping for as long as he does with the tigers bowling line up he gets worn down

Ed Cowan looks a solid player he impressed me at Manuka Oval when NSW played here and also his recent century was the goods as well

Luke Pomersbach seems very rough atm but he just gets the job done he can bowl a bit as well i really hope Pomersbach does well i like the way he bats and his 70 odd against England in his first class debut was terrific he always seems to be getting starts he just needs to convert them

Watson can cover 1-4, White 4 onwards. Hogg would have to slip into 7 if both those two are already in.

the aussies have gone all quiet. they must be weak there(or their all in bed) but we still wouldn't be good enough to injure one of their players anyway

Well I was in bed :laugh Anyway my condolences for Englands loss guys. It's just hasn't been your tour. But I'm sure if Tresco, KP, Vaughn were fit, and Freddie was in great form, then it would have been alot different, one would think...

If Watson and Haddin are the backup batsmen for the WC I wouldn't be too upset. Sure it would be nice to have a specialist like Jaques, Voges, Hodge etc., but in the name of versatility it we be much better to use Watson and Haddin. Those 2 are decent/good batsmen in their own right, and if they happened to be English or Kiwis they would be in those ODI teams right now as top 7 players no problem at all.

Don't agree with the Kiwi statement. We are quite happy with our Keeper and All-Rounders thanks very much.

You know, from what In have seen of Watson, he isn't good enough with the bat. I've seen him bowl pretty well, but he's yet to prove himself internationally with the bat. I would presume the Aussies will bring over players like him for the Chappell Hadless series to give them a run.

There's a going to be a CHappell Hadlee series?......thats just stupid, why dont they just incorporate it into the Aus/NZ games in the CB Series. Like they do with the Bledisloe in the Tri-Nations?

I think it's more to do with there being a world cup around the corner, so the more games the better in terms of finalising any last minute plans.
