Commonwealth Bank Series

Thats so unfair. i know it will sound like sour grapes, so dont bother telling me, but england simply do not deserve this trophy. they plaed some of the worst cicket i have seen, and the world has seen. take the two adelaide matches, 120 and 110, and then they go on and win it. Australia outplayd them on almost every occasion, and only 60 overs in teh first final, and then this match and they have won the first ever CB Trophy. atleast they didnt win off there own bat, and it was abandoned, which should hopefully take soe of it away from england.

this was bound to happened. Australia playing brilliant cricket all summer long, it HAD to go pear shaped at some point. England played absolutely rubbish all summer long, they get a break n the finals. disgusting.

Why can't you just be gracious like other Aussie users?

Congrats England clearly the better team in this final series, pity that we couldn't at least finish the game off.

See, it's not hard is it?

Grow up and realise that England outplayed Australia in the finals and stop being an arse about it.

Rules are rules I'm afraid. Australia lost fair and square.

It wouldve been against the rules if they continued playing after the given time (10:45pm). So my fellow Australians, stop cooking your shrimps on the barbie and being unaustralian. Admit the fact that we lost and England deserved the win.

Well done England, that's the sort of attitude they were missing all summer. Keep playing to your ability and results will take care of themselves. England now becomes a serious contender for WC.

Hard to believe that some of the Aussie users are whining, don't you guys have enough cups already ?

Was a bit surprised that the Aussies lost, expected a showdown in Adelaide.
I'm afraid,England has won it fair and square and a mighty good performance too.

For me,the find of the series has to be Paul Nixon.
One of the bets glovemen i've seen in the world.

I thought he was good, but I still thought Chris Read kept better than him, and is a better gloveman. However Nixon does seem to have a wealth of experience in terms of helping out the captain with field placements and getting involved with the game.

As someone who's not English so probably has no bias to any of our domestic players (which I probably do even if I try not to :p ) have you seen both of them keep? If so how did you think they compared?

Seems in England we have a wealth of talented glovemen, just none of them can score any bleedin' runs :p

Well this defeat will certainly give us the focus thing of WIN again .we will prove that in NZ and In WC . :cheers

I have to agree with this.
In the last few years, the English have come up with many glovesmen.
As far as I can remember, after Stewart, there was Jeremy Foster, then CHris Read,G Jones,Matt Prior and Paul Nixon now.

As you said,Nixon seems to help out the skipper and other ppl.
I have a feeling that he might just go a long way.:happy

We were just spoilt when we had Stewart.

I think Nixon is doing just fine, one has to look at the winning team composition and he seems to fit in well.

He can't go that long a way, he'll be retiring in a few years ;) Maybe he's peaking late and will do a Stanley Matthews :p

Whilst Stewie was superb every other country bar Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, and the West Indies seems to manage a keeper that can at least average close to 30 with the bat consistently enough.

Although I must say as I have done on a few other occassions, I'm a sucker for a quality keeper, it's pretty enjoyable to watch a good glovesmen in action.

Jack Hobbs made half his centurys past 40 so Nixon might be able to keep it up ;)

Who says reverse-psychology doesn't work?

We were brilliant throughout the finals and we completely outplayed Australia for the first time in the tour. Nevertheless, this is just a meaningless ODI trophy and i'd happily swap it for a victory in one of the Test matches earlier in the winter.

Nice to see a small portion of Aussie users are as gracious in defeat as ever.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. So what if we won a ODI series; It's nice to put one over on the Aussies but we were hammered in the part of the tour that isn't meaningless.

Approaching a WC it's hardly meaningless. I'd love for England to win the WC maybe slightly more than winning an Ashes series? I don't know, never won a WC.

ODIs may be below the Tests (they are imo) but they are still important, especially considering how close we are to the world cup.

Is his batting going to stand up in Tests though?

16 hundreds in nigh on 300 games, not that good. (Guess who I might compare that to?)

wow @ England..........lol Mike Holding was right he was saying somthing about his mum telling him when he was young watch what you say or somthing like that, Holding said Bob's mum obviously never told him that lol!

i think paul nixon is a good keeper/batsman but hes old and wont be playing for very long england could get geriant jones back if he finds form again, he could be like when he first started playing for england.......
