I have decided not to allow people to apply for more than one position. For example, you can't apply for both the coach and groundsperson positions. You can only apply for one of them.
The "programme" will only decide administration jobs at Los Angeles Cricket Club. The players will be random fictional Americans.

All of the latest applications have been added to the first post. Looks like the whole competition will be for coaches, which makes slightly one dimensional but also quite good for the excitement of it all.

All applications must be posted by 4:00pm BST on Tuesday, 19th June, 2007 (tomorrow!). Any applications after this date will be rejected.

When creating it, I didn't even think about your "Planet Cricket Apprentice". I wanted to do something with Botham bringing cricket to America. This just evolved out of that.

The search for contestants is over

Applications to appear on "Howzat for an Apprentice?", Sir Ian Botham's search for administrators at his Los Angeles Cricket Club, have closed.

15 people from all over the world have applied for positions as coaches, advertising consultants and groundsmen. However, after only 1 application for the last two categories, Botham has decided to hand them the jobs straight away.

"Only one person was interested in the advertising consultant position, a gentleman named Tobie Chapman, so I have decided to award him the job without including it in the show," Botham said.

"The same thing happened with the groundsman position, a gentleman named C.Jennings was the only man to step forward for it. I have given him the job and I am sure he will make a fine groundsman. Both of these men will be given further instructions at the end of the series."

This decision means that 13 people will compete live on US television for the job of coach of 15 American rookies.

Sir Ian will set a task to be completed by every one of his apprentices, and failure to do so will result in being given the dreaded finger, "You're Out!" by the cricket legend​
