But you've got to admit, almost beating Australia was quite a feat. This Canadian team never looked good enough on the batting front to seriously challenge the likes of Australia, Great Britain and the then fairly strong Americans.
I think you might have a better chance to keep clear of the wooden spoon in 1900 when the likes of France, Netherlands and the then very raw New Zealand come in.

1904 actually. New Zealand, France, Netherlands and Argentina get the nod ahead of them for 1900. They ought to be much stronger by 1904 anyway.

1896 Olympic Games Final - Great Britain vs USA
It's now down to Great Britain and the United States of America to fight for Olympic gold. Despite being tied on points with the Americans, Australia missed out due to their somewhat surprise defeat to them in the first match of the competition. Canada on the other hand were completely outplayed in all but their second game where they let Australia escape with a face-saving win despite being in a winning position for most part.
Given their irresistable form with the ball and a wide range of illustrious names to pick from, Great Britain remain overwhelming favorites despite finishing the league stage with a surprise defeat to an out-of-form Australian side. They've been so consistent that legends like Gilbert Jessop (best player to never play limited overs cricket), Bobby Abel, Johnny Briggs and Bobby Peel have been reduced to benchwarmers for this tournament.
Great Britain have also got the psychological advantage with a 110-run victory against the Americans in their most recent encounter. But one can't underestimate an American team with players of the calibre of Bart King, John Lester, Henry Baily, Percy Clark and not to mention George Patterson who returned to his usual with bat and ball in their previous match against North American rivals Canada. They might want to play Walter Clark this time though.

George Lohmann has picked up 6 wickets from 3 matches at a very Lohmann-esque average of 12.33 but hasn't been at his lineup-wrecking best. He is set to retire from international cricket at the end of this Olympics, which means he'll probably look to bow out on a high by destroying one last international batting lineup.

I'll do exactly what you said, and bring Walter Clark in for Arthur Wood. Wood has been painfully average, and really hasn't warranted a place in the final. It would be a real shame to lose at the hands of Lohmann, but a fitting end for him if he ends a TB-shortened career with Olympic gold.
