Cricketing Queries

surely they have to retire from int. to qualify? some sa kolpaks had played for SA but retired. I think there's a 12 month period before you can qualify

I've already got the answer in the NZ domestic cricket thread, as no one replied to it here until you did now.
Just look there if you're unsure on how it works.

How does bowling off the wrong foot work?

A right hander lands on his left foot, bowls the ball, finishes his action on his right.
Off the wrong foot means you land on the left foot, finish your action, then land on the right.

So essentially it just looks like your bowling off the wrong foot and is strange when your action is actually fine, just very quick.

What about this one? The batsman hits the ball which hits the non-strikers bat on the full. the ball rebounds up in the air and is caught by a fielder. whos out?

The batsman on strike!

I think i saw this type of dismissal. It was Aus vs Sri Lanka ODI. Symonds drove straight uppishly, Clarke was on the other end, he traied to get out of the way but instead he kicked the ball and fielder at short mid wicket caught it... Everyone was smiling. Symmo must be thinking " What the h$%#%# :p"

Thanks for that :) Will go to youtube when I get home and have a look.

Two questions about runners:

Can the runner back up or do they have to wait until the batsman has hit the ball/the ball has passed the batsman before they can start running? (if the injured player is at the crease)

What are the rules for stumpings with a runner?

Runner can back up, but if either the runner or the batsman's foot is out of the crease, they can be runout/stumped.

ok so for them not to be out, both the runner and the batsman have to be in.

Wouldn't that make it quite easy to steal byes at the end of the game, if the runner can back up?

Although runner can back up at bowling end but if he's backing up even before bowler delivers, he could be given run out after a warning. There is a video of Kapil Dev running out someone by hitting the bails of running end during his delivery stride coz batsman was backing up too much. Umpire gave him out.

You can't do that under the new rules. As soon as you hit the delivery stride you can no longer turn around and get the other batsman out be he in or out of his ground.
