Cricketing Queries

I meant the runner backing up from the batting end.

You can't do that under the new rules. As soon as you hit the delivery stride you can no longer turn around and get the other batsman out be he in or out of his ground.

This. As per rule 42.16 "Batsmen stealing a run": Though it is actually a part of the "old" rules, unless you aren't referring to those new rules brought in a month or so ago. I can't remember if they clarified it, but it says, and I quote:

The bowler can attempt to run out either batsman by throwing the ball at either wicket. This attempt must be made prior to him reaching his delivery stride and provided that he conforms to this, any successful run out of either batsman will be upheld.

If he fails to run out the non-striker, the umpire will call and signal Dead ball

If he fails to run out the stiker, the umpire will call and signal No Ball for an illegal arm action.

If the bowler simply stopped in his run up and the batsman ran a single 5 penalty runs will be awarded to the fielding side, batsman returned to relevant ends and it's a Dead Ball.

As for the runner backing up at the batting end for the striker, I cannot find anything that states this cannot be done. Remember the runner is effectively a clone of the batsman he is running for, the runner backing up would be no different to the injured striker standing out of his ground or walking down the wicket to hit the ball. The runner is subject to the exact same laws as the injured striker (or non-striker if it be the case), the only difference being he isn't holding a bat.

On top of that, I refer to the above 42.16 part of the Unfair Play rule.

So basically, if I have an injury, and it is 1 run to win off 1 ball, I can call for a runner, and the non-striker and the runner can sprint as the ball is delivered and basically be 3/4s of the way home by the time i play the ball (especially if a spinner is bowling).

Ridiculous.

Yea that's what I was thinking. It would be rather unfair in that sort of situation. Or even if you had the runner beforehand, and not just called for it on that last ball.

Yeah, sounds like a loophole. Probably would result in a spirit of cricket issue.
Well it would be natural for the runner to run as soon as the ball is played by the batsman, thus giving an unfair advantage.

There should be some type of rule for it, since no matter what the natural instinct would be to run as soon as possible.

Oh Jesus Christ. Can you not read? 'YOU CAN'T DO THIS UNDER THE NEW RULES.'

Yes congratulations, they could to it back then as it was still in the rules as possible.

CAN YOU NOT REMEMBER WHAT YOU WROTE!!!

"As soon as you hit the delivery stride you can no longer turn around and get the other batsman out be he in or out of his ground."

I posted that video according to that post bub. In the video, Kapil Dev didn't turn around. He just finished his action and took the bails off in the progress.
CAN YOU UNDERSTAND NOW OR I NEED TO REPEAT THIS .. gosh...

You need to repeat cos you're incoherent. The rule, pre change said that no matter where you were in part of your bowling run-up or delivery, the bails could be taken off. The change afterwards said that you couldn't do it once you had hit the delivery stride. FYI the change didn't occur when Kapil Dev was playing, it happened recently.

Jesus. Go away again, this place was better without you.

And you will never accept your mistake that you didnt post the complete rule... You are just a obnoxious jerk who like to think he' above everyone else... Get your head our of your wonderland, come back to real world

OMG, how did I not post the complete rule? I told you two things in one post. 1) The rule had been recently changed and then 2) that the rule was actually 'You can't do that under the new rules. As soon as you hit the delivery stride you can no longer turn around and get the other batsman out be he in or out of his ground.'

You are an absolute joke, and you know what, I am better than you. So jog.
