DBC 17 Batting

One of the more comprehensive reviews of DBC 17 and one of the very few which calls out lack of some shots highlighted in the thread...
I'll Play It Anyway, But Don Bradman Cricket Has Issues | Kotaku Australia

Not too sure what he was trying to get at when he said something along the lines of "In batting in real life you get two options, backfoot or frontfoot, blah blah blah, pros and cons, blah blah blah, but not with dbc 17, blah blah blah, but front foot has a better margin for error"... What? ...Doesn't it all depend on the condition of the pitch?...No it f@#@$NG really does depend on pitch types and conditions! (you should have 2 different plans for a soft and hard pitch,*In dbc 17 ) .

Such a shame that BA have decided to add a lot of subtlety in this game that's not being picked up by reviewers or even some of us! People have pulled the trigger way too quickly I'm afraid! Gone ahead and pigeon holed this game as another lacklustre attempt of cricket, such a shame! (Imo it has to hurt the chances of another sequel), It's so much more than what people have been giving it credit for, not to sound too sloppy but its the first game to get the balance between batting and bowling right and along the way, also capture the essence of real life cricket... But yeah those pesky friggin flipping bugs! maybe there reach has exceeded there grasp... Or maybe the pc release will paint the true picture...And maybe some d!ckhe@ds will propably continue to say 14 is better even though you couldn't buy an edge or a decent wicket, go figure...*franco ‘s hack withstanding for PC players

This reads like a review from a person who has played the game for an extended period of time rather than "pick n play" the game for a couple of hours before writing the review.
Really?! I had the complete opposite reaction...Hah!

So be it. The batting piece mirrored my experience and I've played the game for more than 3 weeks now - majority of time spent on batting. And same experience regarding the front & back foot balance which I've pointed out in some of my posts.

Yep, but you don't like batting as much as me, so who‘s missing out? Tell me whats different between a hard pitch and a soft pitch in game, batting wise?... And after that I‘ll tell you why your not enjoying it as much as me. :)

Subjective who likes batting more or not given the fact that's the discipline I spend most of my time on. You may be having a great batting experience and all power to you, and I'm happy that you are enjoying yourself but unfortunately my experience is more on the lines of the Kotaku reviewer.

Ok you've batted a lot in dbc 17, so whats the difference between a "Hard Pitch" and a "Soft Pitch"? " Batting Wise" and "Shot Selection Wise"?

Why don't you enlighten us and the reviewer? Maybe we can all pick some pointers on how to bat in DBC 17 and where we are going wrong.

I'll just post a vid tomorrow, I'll show you the difference between a hard wicket and a soft one. There's a massive difference btw, you can't play the same scoring shots for both. *Tip, dont worry about playing a shot of any kind to a red length ball on a hard pitch, just duck or sway or else you'll knick it eventually, also you can backfoot drive green length deliveries outside off but not to straight ones (FULL CIRCLE) better to play off frontfoot to onside or straight. Hope that helps.

Some useful tips thanks, may try and read through all the decent posts as I feel I can pick up tips to improve my performance. And, hope to get that first ton.

Pc buyer here who reads a lot and posts very little. I am thinking of starting a story mode (see my general discussion post) but was wondering on one batting specific.

I know a lot of you have been saying it is really rewarding to get your batsman settled in and is noticeable when you play a constructed test innings (e.g. Matt Renshaw's recent knock). However, why is it different to dbc14? When I batted in 14 I always felt that the more balls I faced the cleaner I hit the ball and the easier runs came, but that never still was enough incentive to waste 10-20 minutes blocking everything. The thing is that in batting in 14 was that I had to 1/2 premeditate (always front foot, always ready to play straight...only time i went cross bat was if i had the reflexes to do it which wasn't common) whenever I wanted to score, and whenever i wanted to block I would go front foot, straight every time. I couldn't get out. Which seemed pointless to me. I also have read that with the circle thingy it is much easier to play without premeditating.

So what I am wondering is-can you bat like you would in a normal game, where you have no idea what is going to happen before the bowler comes in and bowls? To rephrase, can you effectively stay at the start of your innings without just holding down the block button over and over? And then slowly build up to full throttle? And can you notice the reward in doing so rather than just tonking the ball from ball one? After all, my problem was in 14 that I had no reason to score a 200 ball century when I could get a 20 ball one.

I am really sorry how badly it is worded but I couldn't figure out how to ask it in another way. Thank you so much for your time

The biggest plus in DBC 17 is the slider for viewing "Ball Marker". This takes away pre-meditation as you can select the slider setting that you are comfortable with for viewing ball marker based on your preference (e.g., I have it set at 30). After that you figure out what works for you and what doesn't and you can bump up or down the batting difficulty via sliders to get the batting experience you desire. Once Big Ant fix the batting (360 degree shot control and adding a few missing shots - e.g., cover drive and a true flick/leg glance to fine leg) the game would be the best cricketing game.

In DBC17 when you dont play a shot your stamina goes up 1%
When u actually press leave to leave the ball your stamina goes up 2 or 3% and as an added bonus your confidence goes up 1%.
This is awesome. There is a good incentive to leave balls and thus more options to construct an innings.

Both confidence and stamina go up anywhere from 1 to 3% everytime you leave the ball. Don't know how the game determines the increase (1, 2 or 3%) but it varies per leave.

Would appreciate tips regarding the cut shot, especially off the front foot - the one you play with Right Stick at 3'0 clock position for a right-hander. Currently stuggling to play the shot with some consisteny coz sometimes the batsman steps back and stabs/pokes his bat to the off side, and sometimes the batsman leans-in/crouches to play the shot. results in lots of clean bowleds, LBWs or edges depending on the animation I get. Any tips/hints when to play the shot, which line/length and which pitch type would be ideal for the same?
