Time for a debate, remember each person has the right to have their own views, please you can comment on their views but don't start swearing at the other person, use facts to back up your views.

The question that I bring up today is that should money be spent on space exploration?

My View:

Money should not be spent on space exploration, it should be spent on the poor people who don't seem to have food for themselves or their families. Countless people are dying from Cancer, AIDS, HIV, and other diseases. How can you spend on something that COULD be true, for something that is true, If you go to Mars, you don't know if you will find other species, but If you spend money on a person, you know you can save their life and even others in the world.

Well i don't see any point in going to mars, its not due to finding another specie, its just America saying "Look everybody, how cool are we!"

But yes, i still believe that money should be put into NASA.

1.I agree with you completly that's the first thing should be done.

2. Second thing they could do is instead of spending money in space exploration they could have spend money in Earth Exploration means there are so many species yet to be discover in the Earth yet but till now they've only discovered about 1.2 millions. Scientist belive that there are about 10 or less million species exist in the earth. They could have spend money on Earth Exploration we don't live in Mars or other planet so why care about them first we need to care about our damn own planet Earth which is plenty of things to be discover so spend money on that. I think U.S is trying to show how cool and smart we're just as Pakcricketer said.

I beleive that the US just wan't to get to Mars is because they want to claim it for themselves. Hence, becoming more powerful. When you think about it, the only reason why they want to create a base on the moon is so when there is a war they can launch attacks from the moon. (like a command centre)
It is all strategic and tactical. If the US have more control and power (such as Mars and the Moon), the countries who take arms up against them will be damn scared.
You can't benefit anything from Mars and the Moon except for the land itself.

Yes there is still many many species yet to be discovered on this Earth, but honestly, who cares?

Most of these would be underwater where we cant explore!

If NASA were to find ET's, do you rekon the government would let them release it to the public? I don't think they would, imagine all the chaos it would cause around the world! (religeous countries mainly)

LOL, i highly doubt that the US would use the Moon and Mars for startegic reasons. Another main reason i think they want to go to mars is that they have found valleys comming from each pole. Hence suggesting that a long time ago, Mars had the conditions for water

even if the NASA finds any "human Living" conditions there, what would
they gain out of it ?? i highly doubt if any human would even want
to stay there for more than a day :p ;)

There aren't any human living conditions there. There may of once been. And i dont know what they'd gain, they'd obviosuly collect samples, but what they do with those i have no clue

Lol hahaha. Also recently Nasa found that Saturn has an ICE geyser which is possibility life exixts who really cares about.

Stevie you might not care about the species but many people do care and also Species is not only in underwater. it's in many places like Rainforest.

Hmm... I'm not sure. I would say that space exploration is science in progress, but we can't really learn much more about the planets around us. Yep, America is just trying to be even more powerful. Thats one of the things I like about this forum, there are many users from all over the world rather than just being Yanks (no offence).

About the species thing, a plus sude of finding new species could mean cures for diseases that have bothered us for a long time. Just imagine if the USA put money into rainforest exploration and found a cure for HIV/AIDS, then they would be cool. But theyu would probably try and make some money out of sellling it to the world.

Now Nasa is saying that 10th planet do exceed but there are only about 9 planets. So they just trying to make things.

You mean planet X? Planet X hasnt even been named, its about one and a half times the size of pluto, and three times as furhter out as pluto, no atmosphere, just a big rocky icey chunk shaped like our moon.

And why do you say that NASA makes things up???

In my opinion, weapons should be abolished. No more money should be spent on warfare.
Do you know -and this is a fact- then TEN TIMES the amount of money it would take to feed the poor in Africa is SPENT ON WARFARE AROUND THE WORLD. Imagine all the good it would do to humanity to banish warfare. I mean, whats to gain from warfare? More hungry people? More diseases? Killing our brothers ans sisters? Destroying the enviroment we live in?

Good point, but that is quite impossible..

Personally I think space exploration is important, who knows what we will learn in the future. OK at the moment we are only taking little steps but you've got to start somewhere.
Where is your sense of adventure guys? If it were up to you lot nobody would have ever sailed across an ocean or explored the amazon. Exploration is in our very nature.

Totally agree. Also, Space Exploration may help us discover about the formation of the universe, and a huge amount of other things. I agree that the money being pumped into it is extortionate, but can you put a price on knowledge?
