Dinesh Karthik & Virat Kohli

To be fair DK looked good in WI. Badri will play for India in his next life. He is too old now.

Maybe for the same reason why Johnson is in Australia's team :p

Karthik fits very well to the team. The team needs a reserve keeper who can bat. He is only second to Dhoni at that. He's been an average performer recently, but that is good enough for a reserve keeper to stay in th team.

Kohli's in the team for a reason. He is a very good fielder and a decent batsman. Whenever someone takes a break from the field, he is called upon to field. His last few innings haven't been bad if you forget the ones against Australia. You could possibly have Uthappa in place of him, i.e only if he fails to perform throughout the series.

Badrinath has been given quite a few chances but he has failed everytime. He's only good at home, that too against the Indian bowlers. He didn't perform very well in the IPL as well. So, I don't see why he still deserves a place in the team. Same goes for Wasim Jaffer. They both can perform well at home wickets, and that too against below average bowlers.

TBH,
He is a better wicket keeper than Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Dhoni is better. Dinesh was better intially, but Dhoni has proved that having a good technique at the start is just not enough to be the best keeper. Dinesh makes lot of mistakes while keeping and doesnt properly put his techniques to use. Dhoni makes up for his lack of technique with amazing effort.

Badri has played three matches in total, and in that, one innings of 27* on a difficult wicket against Sri Lanka was a match winning innings. This is what you call 'quite a few chances'? Although I agree with your assessment on Kohli. His last few innings havent been that bad though he hasnt pushed on for bigger things. But he has showed lot of promise.

I think Kohli is too young to be in the national team, but he is clearly one of the best for the future. However, Indian cricket needs to be smart in handling Kohli. At the other end of the spectrum is Badrinath, clearly mature enough to be part of the national team. He deserves an extended run in the team and batting higher than at number 7 as he has been in the IPL. Karthik as a batsman just does not cut it. His average is in the 20's in both test and ODIs.

Badri is just 29. With the kind of fitness that he has (he is an amazing fielder, and very athletic), he can play till 35 which means another 6 years. After 32, it will be a waste to give him a run in the national side. Badri still has the chance. Mike Hussey also came in very late but he clicked and has become a star player for Australia.

I didn't know he has only played 3 matches. I guess he's been chosen in the fifteen quite often though. But, still, he doesn't demand a place in the side. Nowadays, IPL is the platform for the players to get selected for the national side. I'm afraid, he didn't perform well in that. I'd definately like too see Uthappa in the side before Badri gets another chance. Uthappa played well in the CLT20 as well.
