Dinesh Karthik & Virat Kohli

Why did Karthik get a emergency call? why not Badri?

Simply because Karthik was associated with the team lately and Subramaniam wasn't. Also, don't forget that it wan an emergency call. Therefore, it was much easier to call someone who has already been part of the team some months ago, rather than calling someone from their hive.

I didn't know he has only played 3 matches. I guess he's been chosen in the fifteen quite often though. But, still, he doesn't demand a place in the side. Nowadays, IPL is the platform for the players to get selected for the national side. I'm afraid, he didn't perform well in that. I'd definately like too see Uthappa in the side before Badri gets another chance. Uthappa played well in the CLT20 as well.

We saw the likes of Yusuf Pathan, Dinesh Karthik, etc perform well in the IPL but both havent done justice in the ODI's. Infact even Dhoni has cleverly mentioned that the IPL should not be a platform to select players for national team.

I would like to see Uthappa back. He performed well in the CLT20 against good domestic sides from other countries. It seems he has changed his game a little with better backlift, changed stance and all that. Hope he can come in for a second innings.

All I can say is Srikanth has something against him. Moreover hes off the spotlight these days, while karthik made some notable performances in the CLT20.

I approve of Dinesh as a reserve keeper in the team, not as a pure batsman. Yusuf Pathan did well in the first IPL and if you look carefully, he did well in international cricket for sometime as well. Though during the second IPL his perfomance was poor and same was the story at international level during that time. He was then dropped for good.

Karthik gets into the side oinly as a reserve wicketkeeper. His batting is nowhere near good enough to get into th side alone. As for Virat Kohli, he just looks like Rohit Sharma V2 to me.

I dont get this you get a call only because you were the part of team before?! it's not a hangout, good in bat, respect the opposition, captain, on field, encourage bowlers that's it.

Badri whenever given a chance proved that he's much deserving.

Kohli carries bats/bottles well, let him warm the bench for this series can give him a try in vs Bangla.

To be honest, I really like these two players. Karthik & Kohli's technique is fully sound and are natural strokemakers. However, I have not seen Badrinath play so I can not make assumptions.

Having sound technique and all is good, but there's no point in having a sound technique if you can't use it.

Why did Karthik get a emergency call? why not Badri?

a) He's an opener
b) Perhaps Dhoni wants a break from keeping (It is a 7 match series after all)
c) Selectors have never had faith in Badri.

I'm the biggest Badrinath supporter out there. But KKD has his own special place in Indian cricket.

Yes I agree, however, previous to opening in the West Indies where was Karthik placed in the batting order?

Somebody tell me if I am wrong but I reckon it was 6 or 7?

He was opening against the West Indies. On all flat tracks. TBH he bats crap just about everywhere and anywhere. I have no faith in him when he comes to the crease.

But he is always an epic FAIL whenever we include him in the first XI. I really think that it's about time the selectors should try out someone from fresh bunch of young keepers we have in our country, instead of going with KKD again and again. He is adding no value to the team whatsoever, so why continue with him every time instead of doing a bit of experiment with young keepers like Wriddhi Saha and the rest? There's no harm in a little testing, is there? These players can't possibly be worse than this KKD guy, if not better! Why are the selectors so infatuated with KKD Kartik?

He's a floater. Opens, bats at 3, 5, 6, 7.

Because he's a very, very good cricketer. He is the best batsman among the fringe keepers - fact. He is very consistent in the Ranji setup, always is among the runs for Tamil Nadu, keeps very well, and is also the state's captain.

Personally, I believe that KKD is better than at least 70% of world keepers today.

Right, just as he was our most successful batsman, opening the innings in TEST match cricket, in England 2007 (Our first big overseas victory in a long long time)

It's probably wrong of me to bring back things from two years ago, but KKD is a very complete cricketer. There's even an article on cricinfo comparing him to Sachin.

Um, no. From what I saw of him in Hamilton when he was practicing he looked terrible. He had very slow footwork and dropped a good 30/40 percent of his catches. Then when he was given a run in the second test he looked just as bad, I remember him dropping a pretty simple catch in the 1st innings.
